That’s the point. The government cannot fund education.

It’s just like the case of subsidy, a time will come when we will have to let go. The earlier the better.

The government can NEVER fund education to meet up with world standard. It’s not feasible as of date.
So, if the govt can't fund education, it's the citizens that can fund education abi

Explain to me in clear logical terms what you think govt should use the money it generates from taxing the citizens and controlling our resources for.

How much is tuition fees in some federal universities and some private universities. I need to be sure of price so I don't stress myself on my brother who's seeking admission

It’s not denial. It’s about raising the bar. We have attached so mich emphasis on university education and why we naturally feel it’s mandated and compulsory.

So because we want to appease all, we should keep churning out substandard and less competitive graduates.

I’m done arguing with u. U can’t reduce me to your IQ level

It’s not wickedness, but the bitter truth.

You don’t feel cutting down cost of governance could help support the universities?

That’s the point. Even when a cut in cost of governance is demanded, the proceeds can NEVER fund tertiary education to standard if you want to them to be competitive.

Education is expensive.

The proposed fees are still not as expensive as tuition in any of those countries you mentioned, so it’s still affordable.

The status quo cannot take us farther than where we are today. If you demand change in that sector, then people must pay for it.

I will repeat again, the government can NEVER fund education. The earlier you realize this, the better.

Don’t shy away from what you will still have to face. It happened with subsidy.

Affordable for who?

Who will pay for it. How come anything that has to do with inefficiency is always pushed to the citizens in Nigeria then govt spin doctors like you are sent to browbeat the people into silence.
I hope you're aware countries like UK, US, Canada, Germany have universities that are actually tuition free for their citizens. So stop all the cappings

Have the government tried it first?
The senators in Nigeria are the highest paid in the world.why can’t the government start from there?
And rumors even have it that they want to still increase their salaries

Nothing good comes easy!

If Nigerian universities want to compete, they must be autonomous, and students must pay their fair share

Nigerians are the only class of people who want their country to overtake the US, UK and Canada, but not ready to pay their fair share like citizens of those countries.

Also, Nigerians demand instant change and never ready to make sacrifices for gradual change.
You're very inconsiderate for saying this. Are you comparing our economy with the UK, Canada and the US? We are in a place where students hardly feed normally, how do you expect parents to cope?

Those mushroom universities? Mention one of those universities that is competitive. Loads of mushroom universities in the West too.

If we want to get the best out of our university education, it will come with high cost.

Are you surprised no university can compete with Covenant today? Are you aware the degree from Covenant is becoming a force to reckon with. Why do you think that is so? Because they have access to funds

Now you are asking the right questions. The Elite, wealthy and ruling class are already paying prices and this current administration must ensure they pay a lot more. Loopholes that are being blocked are affecting their revenues big time.

The executive arm of the current administration cannot set the wages of the legislatures. He does not have that authority according to the constitution.

This is the time the pressure groups suppose to mount immense pressure on the legislatures, the state governors, state house of assemblies, local govt chairmen and even the Judiciary.
Another bogus claim. Google RMAFC. They are under the executive and responsible for fixing salaries of public office holders. You know your master does not have the moral stand nor balls to make such move which is why you're pushing it to a bottomless pit called "pressure groups". At least you spared NLC your hypocrisy this time around.

You're excusing the main actors and chasing rats. Another intellectual fraud synonymous with Zombies!!

No matter how you look at it, there must be checks and balances, otherwise the student loans being setup will be ruined.

We do not have credit rating tech here. As we evolve, things will be put in place.

Truthfully speaking, if anyone told you there would be a student loan setup in Nigeria in your lifetime, would you have believed?

Let us be cheerfully optimistic as Nigeria is going in a very different direction right now.
Another fraudulent piece. There was once students loans in Nigeria. It was scrapped due to corruption and mismanagement and removal of tuition fee was used to replace it. That tuition fee is what is being brought back in the name of student loans.

What percentage of Nigerian students can afford Covenant university? We are talking about a county where 70% of the citizens cannot afford 100$ per month as income. It's very pathetic

Mushroom universities? But your master attended one of them!!
Covenant is not top of universities index in Nigeria pls. The university is doing well no doubt but its not strictly due to funding alone but proper management and professionalism.
For Covenant you keep touting, there are five private universities that are shambolic in same Nigeria. How do you reconcile that?
Igbinedion was the first private university in Nigeria and highly expensive too. Where is it today? Money can't cure all ills... or should I say more money can't

I have reinstated severally on this thread. University education is not for all. We shouldn’t be bringing pity to the table when we demand quality and standards.

A degree is not mandated or compulsory to be successful. We make it to look that way.

That's a very myopic view. Your per capita income is below 2k with very high rate of out of school children and largest number of citizens living in poverty. Those are the citizens you expect to fund world class universities.... How realistic is that?
