We now have 2 classes of Nigerians.
The rich
And the poor.
Middle class is gone for real.
The rich would get richer with the sweat and blood of the poor.
This is the only way, Nigeria can survive and exist as a nation.
Expect more crime, violent crimes, I meant.
More and renewed agitations for secession.
Worsening inflation and inflationary economy.
In all these, Nigerians would survive.

Yours is good , in my office ( a 4 bedroom apartment ) we got 60k , only us no other apartment as we have our own metre

And I heard it will still go up. God will have mercy. Prepaid meter is still better. Only, our landlord is not ready to spend a dime.

I tried recharging my prepaid Meter all through yesterday June 30th, all failed; maybe the traffic of panic buying of the old rate being the last day was responsible for the glitch. Woke up very early this morning to recharge and boom it went just at the 1st trial, chai!!!

I recharged 20k and I got 267 units in return. I was shocked. Usually 1500 is for the 7.5%(VAT). I quickly did the maths 18500 divided by 267.(something). So my tariff now is around 69 Naira per KWH. Mehn, cold gripped me, before now when u buy 20k, u are good for a month due to epileptic power supply. Ironically we have been having 24hours power supply, only God knows if this will last up to 3 weeks sef.

Everything is increasing except for salaries that are on stunted growth. From Fuel, that has impacted directing on food cost and transportation. While this Electric tariff increment will have a larger impact on almost everything. But we all know that the Masses will bear the brunt if it all.

Which way o? How do a common Man survive with all these skyrocketing Bills?

Maybe it been long you recharge, because what you got at 20k is equivalent of what they've selling for almost 2 months now.

Bcuz the first time I recharged the prepaid meter here in Ajah, I bought 20k and I was given 125 units like 2 weeks ago.

Nigerians have already spent one full month with the subsidy and nobody is talking about it anymore, even the TUC & NLC that's supposed to speak have be bought. Everybody still goes to work like nothing happened. No riots, no protests, NOTHING.

Nigerians will rant, groan, cry about the tariff increase and go back to their normal Business with the GOD WILL HELP US mentality and that's where it ends.
I cry for this failed nation.

We complain of inadequate power i Nigeria, yet we waste a lot of it. In advance world, people use energy saving bulbs as against the conventional type most people still use in Naija, they don't on security light when it is not night, TV does not have to be on when not in use, appliances generally needs to be regulated based on needs. Power is not cheap anywhere, all you have to do is know your needs and apply wisdom, at the end of the day, you won't be paying more if you can manage it properly.

Just look for money and go solar to have peace of mind. This I did December last year and I am grateful I took that step.

Presently using 3.5Kva inverter.

Now there is no need putting off light self, freezer is on, tv is on, fans are on. What else do I need?

I want to upgrade to 5Kva

Sorry for asking, but can solar actually carry a NORMAL freezer? Emphasis on NORMAL, not maybe a solar-whatever freezer o

Solar can carry anything. Depends on your pocket. Someone I know has a solar farm 2 plots of land filled with panels, he has 2 electric vehicles and a printing press. All running on solar

The increase was effected before today 1st July

I recharged 29th June and noticed it

It would carry it, but it would only run out faster. That is why you have energy saving appliances. During rainy season, they also have to be careful with its usage. Ignore the people always quick to sing solar in a country where minimum wage is less than $100. Discos should give people light.

Solar installation that would carry your fridge, AC and other household appliances can set you back like 1.5 to 2m currently. Yet any small thing they will say solar. Like say their papa house get solar. undecided

Well Poco, do some more research. I know you're good at it. One can make it work, you just have to analyze the load profile of the intended solar installation location. This would include how long one would be running a device for.

I installed mine last year... budget was between 200-300k, however I don't think most people will be as thorough as I was about how I went about it, So maybe ramp it up to an average of 600k.

I run my freezer for 1-2 hours on a good sunny day(every 2-3 days interval, and well the sunlight has replenished the batteries within the day in between intervals), and it's good enough for like 2 days tops. It's all about power management especially when on a budget (yes, with solar it's a given you must manage, lol).

That investment has paid off just after one year.

For the record the capacity of the inverter used in the PV system is 300W ( 300VA; MAX:500W). For reference that smallest generator, you know, the "I-better-pass-my-neighbor" generator is of 850W (850VA or 0.85KW) capacity...

...and the panel are installed in a good orientation considering the loci of the sun (how the sun moves across the sky)... and where the neighboring buildings aren't casting shadows over it during the good sun hours.

I got started when I encounted lasthero's thread:

@pocohantas, thanks for your reply, I believe that's aside maintenance... The compound next to me has it and it's almost every time the engineers come to fix one thing or the other, the man is starting to complain

They just give us prepaid last week and I'm already thinking of ways to save

You mean you spent just about 300k to set up your solar and it was carrying your home appliances and all?

Yampotatocarrot:

I even feel like I would be giving out too much secret sef... lols.

It will not power unlimited amount of appliances o, you will have to manage it out.

For example when I intend to put on my refrigerator/freezer, nothing else preferably will be plug on at the time maybe except the laptop, or the fan else it will trip off due to overload, but the sun will have to be up to sustain replenishing the batter immediately (meaning don't even think of trying this at night since it will be running strictly off the batteries at night).

DISCLAIMER!!: Don't try this until you have researched and UNDERSTOOD how each component and the batteries work else you will achieve a sub-optimal arrangement or worse you will damage your batteries (the the biggest expense), let me just put that out there...

Yes, it could have been even lesser but I need more power, so I went for an additional solar panel, a higher capacity batter (second handed) and a charge controller to boot( for this one I urge you to research o).

You can learn a bit from lasthero's thread, he got me inspired so I began my project.

From today your prepaid meter will start reading at the new tarriff

Bro,calm down.Unit consumption don't work that way.If you have old units in your meter and the new tariff increment comes onboard, your old unit will have to be exhausted and you purchase a new unit before it can take effect.

Don't forget that tariff increment is on units purchased not units consumed in perpaid meter

Sir pls wat is the difference btw these three. Prepaid, postpaid and estimated billing. Or can u define them. Am just curious, dont mean any offense
jmoore:

Anyone can waste energy, whether prepaid, postpaid or estimated billing.

The only difference is that those on estimated billing do not pay for the wasted energy.

A residential apartment that is spending 70k monthly must be wasting energy. What appliances will consume that high amount?
