Find time to learn something else, even a good fashion designing would do, get good machines, open up a standardized shop, employ more hands, supervise regularly and let them see it in practical that you can do the job so well too, then thank me later.

I work in a company and my take home is 450k after tax. My problem is I have been thinking of a skill to learn as this job would not last forever. Aside this job I do not have a skill and as a man I feel one should have a long lasting skill. Please any suggestions would be welcomed aside from online skills. Thank you .

Cut down your expenses, don’t spend recklessly, don’t compete with co-workers and don’t try to impress anybody (including women).

Rent an affordable apartment, start up a business.

(Don’t start building any house immediately, because it’s a liability). It will only tie your wealth in one spot.

Imagine building a house with 30-50m in Lagos, only to get at least 2m yearly as a rent. How long will it take to get back the capital

From my experience save 12 month your living expenses in dollars as a insurance for loss of job but during that period. Can upgrade you cv to a more desirable field. Business is brutal to start experience without on the job experience and contact. Know a friend who earn close to 950k as a staff of okumu oil. He start a mini palm oil plant and storage business but he had on the job experience. Avoid get rich quick opportunities and all the best.

This is not always the case in Nigeria. In my family a larger percentage of people got employed at their current work place because an uncle used his influence to impose them there. And some who lost their job in the past have not been able to secure another one or find something else to do. Nigeria has a major skills shortage problem and a lot of jobs offer no transferable skill

Thanks for this wonderful input. But before I got this job I have tried many businesses. Business in Nigeria Is something else. At times you would feel your village people are following you . The way prices changes in a sec in Nigeria Is another thing .

Within 3 years you should have put a foundation of mini duplex and have side investment.

I don’t know what skills you are talking about again. I doubt if any skills will give you that much in today Nigeria. Just try saving for now as you already have a paying job.

450k for 12 months is 5.4M. He can’t have a landed property in a choice place anywhere in Lagos. Except if it is not Lagos or Abj Wherever he earns that money must have a high cost of landed property. .
