yes it's even a custom in some cultures. The son can bare the father's name instead of the family name as surname. 1 Like |

Use your first name as his last name. |
Re: I Don't Want My Son To Bear My Surname. Could This Be Possible? by Ibime(m): 3:09pm On Jul 26, 2023 |
Giving your first name to your son to use as a surname is very natural. That's how most surnames evolved as people became literate in the last 200 years That's why we have surnames like Danielson, Harrison, Peterson etc. or their Nordic variants like Danielsen, Magnussen, Sigurdsson. Their surnames were just a reflection of the fathers first name with son added on the end. Others used their occupation as their last name eg the most popular English surname of Smith which indicates the first one in the family to put a surname on official documents was a blalcksmith 1 Like |

Tayorshd87:It's possible but you will have to support the birth certificate with affidavit especially in the future if you have to justify the father-son relationship between you guys |

Give your child whatever name you want no big deal, if the child grows he will still decide if he wants to bear your name.most people these days just bear what they want and you have a hard time figuring where they are from |

talented321: Yes, this is all that is required. It will be stated on His birth certificate that you- with your official names- are the Father. If you ever need to change your own surname name, you don't need to alter anything on the birth certificate. Meanwhile, don't let anger or hate eat you up. We truly become adults when we are able to forgive the sins of our fathers and move On with our own lives with greater wisdom. All the best. 1 Like |

Your son is your son. You can give him any surname you wish. When he grows up, he can "shenk" the name and the lineage you wished for him. And if he likes he can go back to his ancestral name as well. Nothing is cast in stone when it comes to names. I remember, when I told my dad I don't want to be called a particular name again, he chuckled and said that's why I gave you 8 different names....Feel free to use any of all of them! 2 Likes |

If your first name is not a traditional namel and you want a traditional surname for your children, you can use your middle name ( which i believe will be a traditional name) as their surname. By "traditional" i mean Nigerian native name. Good Luck bro. 3 Likes |

Tayorshd87: One if you a Yoruba, I will seriously advice you against that. The fact that you're in terms with your dad doesn't mean he's not your blood, and that's a fact you can't change. We can't choose who our father are, but we can choose to be a better father to our kids. I wish you the best has you make the right decision. |

KINI BIG DEAL, MY CHILDREN ARE BEARING MY FIRST NAME, MY LATE FATHER EVEN MADE IT COMPULSORY FOR ALL OF US TO BEAR HIS GRAND FATHER'S NAME WHICH IS OUR GREAT GRAND FATHERS NAME, TILL TOMORROW, ALL MY FATHER;S CHILDREN, AND HIS LATE BROTHER'S CHILDREN BEARS OUR GREAT GRAND FATHER'S NAME. IN OTHER TO SUSTAIN THE LINE OF THE LINEANGE, I ONLY NAMED MY FIRST SON, HIS NAME, MY OWN NAME AND MY GREAT GRANDFATHER'S NAME. MY OTHER CHILDREN BEAR JUST THEIR NAME AND MY NAME LEAVING MY FATHER'S NAME OUT OF IT. THERE IS NO BIG DEAL THERE. THE ONLY NAME WE WANT TO PRESERVE IS OUR GREAT GRAND FATHER'S NAME. SO ONCE YOU JUST ENTER OUR COMMUNITY AND SAY THAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR THE LINEAGE OF SO SO AND SO, EVEN A STRANGER CAN EVEN LEAD YOU YOU TO OUR FAMILY HOUSE, THEN WHEN YOU GET THERE, YOU CAN NOW START DISCRIBING THE SON OF SO SO AND SO PERSON YOU ARE., 2 Likes |
