I don't think it can be both... for one person it can be a proof of love and to another it can be lack of trust... it can't be both to same person.

There is no relationship between trust and jealousy. I've never heard anyone said "I trust/don't trust him thats why I'm jealous/not jealous of him".

But when it comes to love, then yes, there is a relationship between jealousy and love.

Jealousy is wanting what someone have, and it's possible to be jealous about what your your beloved has.

E.g, I could be jealous because my brother is taller or more handsome than me,. Or my girlfriend is richer and has more romantic options than me.

But as humans, there are some emotions the we can't really control when it enters our mind, but maturity makes us conceal it so it doesn't really show....
There are some behaviour Ur partner might do, that may trigger jealousy... It might be intentional, it might not...
So it's good to be calm and wait....

Let me give you an example.

A woman is who is constantly comparing herself to other women (especially to models, performers, actresses) can only lose. Of course, there are so many beautiful other women. He might love the way she treats children, her big heart, her long hair and beautiful curves. She’s number one in his heart, but this doesn’t mean he doesn’t find other women also attractive, in a different way.

But what happens when that certain woman goes crazy because of jealousy? When she becomes mad and upset only if he’s talking to another attractive woman? Well, she really starts appear unattractive over the time. And yes, he really starts thinking about relationships with other women. It’s a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Jealousy can be a proof of love when people don't want to lose their partner to someone else, that is "they love them so much, that they can't fathom the idea losing their partner to someone else"
It can also be lack of trust to some people, as they feel their partner is not being faithful to them with the people they hang out with.
I think how we define jealousy in a relationship has to so with the individual and the context of the relationship.

Mr. Pansophist you totally miss the definition of jealousy being discussed.
It is NOT jealousy as in "I want what he has".
It is "romantic jealousy", as in feeling bad that your girl greets or smiles at another guy, or not being able to stand the thought of your girl being with another guy and always suspicious that maybe she has.
