The market is really funny. IB closed on green while nahco and nascon closed on red.
IB - Buying cheap
NAHCO/NASCON - Profit taking

Care to recommend a great dividend-paying stock for a medium to long-term hold?

Appreciate what you guys do here, all the information is really helpful.

Please can anyone recommend a great dividend-paying stock for me to purchase, I am looking at also holding long-term. Is MTN? a good buy for long-term and do they pay great dividends?

I am already holding ZENITHBANK.

If you are comfortable with dividend that is less than 3% from MTN, then you can go and grab your cake.

MTN’s current yield is approximately 6% and not 3%.

is that a fallout from the interim dividend of N5.60 declared days ago?

I don't think MTN is fantastic with good dividend except for those with good entry

Yea I just noticed it.

It might be due to the acquisition of SAIT.

The Company in 2021 acquired 100% interest in Siat Nigeria Limited.

There was a huge increase in investing activities and retained earnings increased despite the acquisition or even increased dividend (FY 2021 being referenced).
I agree with you sir, it might not be so bad of a performance unless compared to its pair.

The three scary highlights for me are:
1. Significant jump in administrative expenses and finance cost - the earlier might be due to increase in personnel size.
2. How deep a grave could the increase in borrowings (non-current, which I believe/assume is not unusual in this line of business) dig for the company with the current outlook of increasing cost of running a business (worsening forex rates, increasing cost of fueling machinery, etc)?
3. The exchange loss reported might be nothing compared to what is expected in the current year.

My concern is that many of these companies might have a rough (and maybe disappointing, at least to a surface observer) couple of fiscal periods before we start seeing "impressive numbers". What business would not have a tough time given the current global and local economic events anyway?

Times like this will surely come and go; resilience could be a virtue.

Okomu did better.
Okomu profit after tax grew from 12billion to 16billion
Presco profit after tax fell from 19billion to 12billion

I think Presco has a better growth potential going forward, the company recently acquired SIAT .I think the effects of the acquisition will soon be seen.

Summary of Presco performance

Revenue increased from N47 billion to N81 billion

Gross profit increased from N32 billion to N50 billion

Operating profit decreased from N29 billion to N28 billion

Earnings Before Interest and Taxes decreased from N29 billion to N27 billion

Profit after tax decreased from N19 billion to N13 billion

Equity increased from N30 billion to N34 billion

Capital Employed increased from N67 billion to N104 billion

Net debt increased from N37 billion to N70 billion

Net operating cash flow increased from N21 billion to N32 billion

Free cash flow increased from N16 billion to N20 billion

Return On Equity decreased from 63% to 38%

Return On Capital Employed decreased from 43% to 26%

Cash Flow Return On Investment was flat at 31%

Gross margin decreased from 68% to 62%

Operating margin decreased from 62% to 34%

Net margin decreased from 40% to 16%

Net debt/EBIT increased from 1 year 4 months to 2 years 7 months

Net debt/FCF increased from 2 years 4 months to 3 years 6 months.

I think Net debt/EBIT of 2 years 6 months or Net debt/FCF of 4 years and below are good enough.

Working capital increased from negative N16 billion to a positive position of N7 billion.

Presco at N170 and below is a good buy

I don't have a specific figure in mind, as I wouldn't want a very high paying dividend stock that may not be suitable for holding in the medium to long term. Instead, I am looking for a stock that strikes a balance of providing a great dividend return while also being equally good for long-term investment

The market is already up and making a recommendation at this point in time could be productive and or counterproductive. The market could continue on it's upward movement or we could see the bear taking over, nobody could tell. So caution must be exercised.
A dividend yield of 10% should be ok in this present market though it is advisable you buy in tranches.
Check out zenith Bank and ucap for consideration.

So what are you recommending?
For good dividend yield and rest of mind. Kindly go for:

UCAP @ 13.50, NAHCO @ 15.

Banking stocks like GTB, Access and UBA are also good in dividend payments. This banks have been growing their dividend rapidly over the years notwithstanding the market volatility. But if you don't like watching your stock going down anyhow, you can stay away from them.

United Capital PLC seems like it since it's the second recommendation I am getting. Thanks.

good Q1. eps 996k as against 589k.
Q2 eps of 1508k against 1347k

above results is good enough to sustain the price of Presco when suspension is lifted on trading.
Wow. Excellent result. This one will move once nse suspension is lifted

It looks like I am going to go in at 14 NGN, can't find any offer below 14, is N14 a fair price for UCAP?

Chief tarry a while and dont be in a hurry

when you want to go into the market for medium - long term you just dont dive into the pool in one swoop, instead you go in bit by bit.

have a time spread for going in (say a week / two or month)

have a price range for the stock you want to buy (say btw 1-1.50)

then you execute above with clear diligence and discipline.

that would make a more meaningful entry than a dive.

my two cents
