Fearyourcreator: Why dont you learn to ignore some people. There are certain people here I have chosen to ignore. They have tried different means to get my attention, but hell no. You don't wrestle with pigs. Don't burn your energy over someone whose experience of living abroad is based on hearsay, rather than him being their to have his own personal experience. Just ignore them and move on. |

juliuscaesar: Living in America is quite different from the rest of the world, opportunities are endless. Salaries are very high & housing with mortgage is cheap compared to the rest of the world. Whatever you're making in America is 5 times better & higher than the rest of the world, so that's it. |

tosinhtml: I said three years because I don't have it at the moment. So, I don't want to make up figures. About the bold, it is still the same thing - having so much saved, whether in dollars or any currency equivalent, does not make financial sense. There is a place for emergency savings, but to have 100 million naira as savings? Nah. Money should work for humans at a point, not the other way round. |

MT:Thanks bros... Most of them can't persist, can't face simple challenge... I don't even know who told them failure is not part of success .. like just one trial it should just happen... Politics is just like other careers ... All this things takes time ... Most of them can't even build just like their mentor is running everywhere... It really annoys one .. thank you very much ... Only a blind man won't like the development in Lagos since 1999 till date , except the person is an enemy of progress... 1 Like |

IbeOkehie: Beautiful piece but the bolded made it too generalistic. Most people lose their ways when they see unlimited freedom - they become WANNABES. Just few in this regard take the opportunity their new environments offer them. |

Gerrard59: I have heard this multiple times from people. Speaking in Nigerian terms, keeping that money in foreign exchange currency & leaving it alone is enough because the Naira will keep falling. But let's say we want to actually invest it. The question is, invest it in what exactly?! I examined the options: Stock Market, Real Estate, Fixed Income, Mutual Funds & Cryptocurrencies. 1. Stock Market: ETFs & compound interests. 2. Real Estate: Used to be a good investment in Nigeria but preserving your money in dollars is better due to constant Naira inflation, your asset will also depreciate in value as Naira depreciates. 3. Fixed Income: less-risk but very low rewards. Government bonds, corporate bonds, or fixed deposits with banks. 4. Mutual Funds: I don't have deep knowledge about this. 5. Cryptocurrencies: Too Risky. The only thing that makes sense on this list is Stock Market & stocks can also fall as well. |

tosinhtml: The best and must be the NYSE. Anything else is a loss. 2. Real Estate: Used to be a good investment in Nigeria but preserving your money in dollars is better due to constant Naira inflation, your asset will also depreciate in value as Naira depreciates. Unless I look at the numbers, merely buying lands and selling them or building houses for rents with dollar makes no financial sense because returns are in naira - which is weak. The cases where such make financial sense is if the person is based in Nigeria or a diasporan who plans to relocate to Nigeria for good. In the former, it is very OK as the person uses his/her dollars to invest, but hopes of breaking even or generating profits should be reduced since they are generated in naira. That is why I cannot buy lands in Nigeria while in the abroad using dollars. I would lose. If Nigeria were a major tourist destination throng with foreigners, I would invest in a hotel with dollars because the returns, although in naira, revenues would be very high and consistent. 3. Fixed Income: less-risk but very low rewards. Government bonds, corporate bonds, or fixed deposits with banks. No difference between this and savings. The returns are too low to warrant cracking one's head to know how much potential returns can be generated. 4. Mutual Funds: I don't have deep knowledge about this. Ditto here. 5. Cryptocurrencies: Too Risky. The same here, plus I don't understand it, and I don't bother to. The only thing that makes sense on this list is Stock Market & stocks can also fall as well. There is also business, especially export driven. That is the option Nigerians, whether in Nigeria or abroad, should aim at. How do we take advantage of the low naira to sell products to the global market? Even as a dollar earner residing in Nigeria, going into business is also appropriate. Making money comes with risk. This is why investors should conduct due diligence at the prospects of making it. |

Gerrard59: Okay with you have written here, the only winner is NYSE. Investing in Business requires attention because you cannot risk being passive as you need to be involved in your business in Nigeria for anything to move forward & to avoid been defrauded. Especially for OP since software development is time consuming on it's own. At the end, keeping your money stashed in savings in not such a terrible idea, there aren't a lot of great options for investment. |

tosinhtml: It is good to save, but amassing savings of 100 million has translated to him working for money, rather than money working for him. At a stage in life, that is not financially sensible to continue. |

Grace001: And the Nigerians who struggle over there? Who are they? What u also need to know is that what u kill ur self to do, most whites don't even care. U want to buy house, drive latest car, use biggest phone, buy all the lands, do they care about that that much? Some of u paint it like every single one abroad has a great life. Come on, a lot of them have spent over 6 years abroad with nothing to show. Still borrow money up and down. A staff member of mine sold her iPhone few months ago to send the money to her bro abroad to pay off his rent after he couldn't pay. This guy has spent years abroad. Abeggg. Abroad is great. But u guys should stop painting this image of like once u are there, u have solved all ur problems. Many Nigerians are still under paid abroad. Stop converting their earning to naira becus they surely would spend their earning over there. |

UnfairLife7: No one is comparing. But stop panting a pictuee of once u are abroad, u have made it. My ex neighbor husband has spent over 20 years in the USA. He no still make am. I was born an average Nigerian, today, I build stuff for clients around the world. Nigerians must wake up from the reality that they need to work and not think that bread and butter and money are picked from any where. Stop deceiving people. A lot of Nigerians are stranded abroad now becus people like u made them think that once they get abroad, they have made it. A lot of Nigerians abroad are struggling. 2 Likes |

BennyDGreat: Thank you. This is what they don't understand and that is one core problem with Nigerians. I know some abroad now, they are tired, it didn't work but can't come back becus of shame. They got to abroad becus of the type of pictures Nigerians paint for them here that once they get abroad, they have made it in life. One specifically has achieved nothing. Working life a machine and full of regrets. His story if like that for a lot of them too but he refused to return becus he would feel like a failure. That is why many of them still go into fraud , drugs, human trafficking etc. Omo, Nigerians with their wack mentality shaa. If that wahala didn't burst out in Saudi the otter time, we wouldnt have known that there were many, many Nigerians who wanted to return home but no flight money. These Naija abroadee promoters also make it look like everyone in Nigeria is dead hungry 1 Like |

Princedapace:Nigeria top the ladder of unemployment and even poverty in the world. Na only person wey spend decades for obodoyinbo without making it na him una dey see. Have you not seen those who make furtunes abroad? At least an average Americans are miles ahead and far better than an average Nigerians that cannot even afford 3 square meal. If you think a poor man child in today Nigeria can make it without involving in crime or fraudulent acts then you're decieving yourself sir. That was in the past. Where son of nobody can become somebody in Nigeria. Not anymore. Millions of graduate are unemployed roaming the streets daily. Many households can't afford 4 square meal daily that i know not ear say. Most average Nigerians cannot afford those 200k and above tuition fee with 30k as minimum wage and high unemployment rate. Even those that are working are still suffering. Their take home hardly take them home due to hyperinflation. No sane Nigeria will have the opportunity to US and will not make it. It is never possible. With any legit job. I mean any legit jobs you go make am. Only those who involved in crime to make fast money are foolish. Leaving Nigeria to US is a goodbye to poverty to an average Nigerians |

UnfairLife7: Have u not also seen those who made wealth here? Baba, dont misunderstand me. Abroadee started all these madness when they dish out mumu words like those in Nigeria are all dead hungery and f*olish. I mean, it is crazy. I even see them rubbish anyone who didnt migrate to Canada, UK or US. These are wack mentality. For instance, my self, I am a software developer, I dont really need migrate to Europe, if I must migrate, I simply care about stuff like electricity, sane environment, and I can get that anywhere in the world once I can afford it. Then, if choose to get that in let say, Bostwana, Namibia or even move to a better estate in Accra, u would see Nigerian abroadees in the UK, rubbishing me and my choice. Can u see the mindset I am trying to correct? Life is not all about making all the money in this world. Allow people breathe in peace. And stop casting down at other people's choices. Tell people the truth about moving abroad. U must be skilled, valuable and useful to their economy to earn well and u must be ready to work ur ass out to meet up. U guys wont pant these pictures to them and they move and begin to struggle. 4 Likes |

Wodu89:why do we top the ladder of poverty and unemployment in the world? Is it lack of game plan according to you or what? Your corrupt leaders top the highest paid political office holders in the world while the masses are poor. Are the masses responsible for their poverty or corruption and bad government policy? Why would an average Nigerian be poor to the extent that they cannot afford 3 square meal daily? Isn't that weird to you? Why would our minimum wage be 30k while some states government are yet to even implement it sef? What can that paltry sum do to a single person not to talk of a. Family? How can a graduate be earning such miserable amount of money? We have leaders who could hardly string two or more words together to make a sentence. We have them in the red and green chambers. What policies would those kinda people made for an average Nigerians? It is not about ear say. We have lots of poverty in this country. I live in the western part of the country. I wonder how the northern region will look like. Poverty is now a norms in Nigeria I laugh at you guys comparing Nigeria to America or any other developed countries. It's like comparing first-class graduate to third class. Shoe get size sir |

Wodu89:beautiful Then why do we have government? Why do we elect leaders with trillions of naira allocation? Would everyone venture into business or freelance? Would everyone venture into IT or whataview? What are the responsibility of government to the masses according to our constitution Security of lives and properties Enabling environment Jobs opportunity Quality education Good healthcare Infrastructures Power supply Accountability et al Are you blaming Nigerians for being poor and JOBLESS now? You mean our leaders are doing the right thing but na Nigerians lazy or refuse to work or learn? I don't understand some of you guys seriously. Some of you will come online be claiming business man, millionaires, investors bla bla bla. Please does that erase the fact that we top the ladder of poverty and unemployment in Nigeria? Does that erase the fact that your neighbour probably do not have food to eat? Does that erase the fact that there are unemployed graduates in at least 2 of every 3 households? Does that erase the fact that an average Nigerians cannot afford a bag of rice now? Does that erase the fact that an average Nigerians cannot afford those exorbitant tuition fees now? Does that erase the fact that an average Nigerians are angry? Seriously i don't understand. Or you're just after yourself. Provided i am rich or comfortable then i careless about others. Just like what your politicians are doing. Or you think your leaders care for the masses? |
