The membership renewal is a bit cheeky considering that the money he made as a speaker and the one he stands to make as COS means that he will never ever need the money from the legal profession.
Whatever the case, baba has always been a street guy so definitely he will sort himself out.

Gazette has played fast and loose with its tilted reporting yet again.

Yes it is true that a dishonest Gbajabiamila had his license suspended for 36 months in 2007.
But then according to the State Bar of Georgia, it appears that the permanent termination mentioned above was strictly because dishonest Gbajabiamila subsequently became delinquent with his license fees - and nothing more.

A moot point in the scheme of things, I know, but accuracy is what underpins balanced and fair reporting in journalism. cool

They are accurate, he stole from his client in 2015 and was suspended for 5 years which was made permanent in 2020, he also stopped payment on his membership of the Georgia bar and his account has finally been terminated.

The fact that he is a common thief is not in doubt.

God bless you for this analysis
where are those people who want to earn
$200k in 1 year when they arrive USA?

when people like us who live here for decades
try to tone down their expectations about US
they call us failures and lecture us on balablu

here is an attorney or lawyer - stealing this
small money and fleeing to Nigeria knowing fully well the consequences of his actions

If the streets of America has millions of $$$
lined up for japarians who hav no US education
and the street is NOT lined up wit millions of $$
for Gbaja; who is probably a US citizen and has US professional Education, then such a japarian is a joke and living in denial - Japa enthusiasts over to you ๐Ÿ˜‚

make ona dey dream of making $20 million savings in 10 years and go buy up banana island ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ dreaming is cheap- like talk is cheap- when your land - and you canโ€™t even secure employment in African restaurant or African shop after 3 months because you donโ€™t have papers and no one wants to take that risk to employ you - you will know that bragging on nairaland is very different from reality ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

We yorubas elect some of the most dubious, corrupt and shadiest people into our yoruba leadership positions and yet we pontificate and tell other tribes how to vote.

Drugdealers, thieves, scoundrels, thugs and buffoons (who would never amount to anything if they were members of other honourable tribes), we elect them with merry.

I am truly ashamed.

In Nigeria the leaders make sure that the institutions are weak while individuals are made strong. But in other develop democracy the institutions are made stronger while the individuals are weaker than the institutions.
In Nigeria there is nothing like rule of law.
That is why I agree with the lawyer the said we are only practicing civil rule not democracy.

Femi Gbajabiamila has to make a scapegoat out of these highly irresponsible and narcissistic journalists working for this creepy media house for defamation and deliberately misleading the reading public. This must include suing for defamation all those helping to spread this insidious article which clearly violates the ethics of investigative journalism from many angles!

Indeed, Femi left the U.S. to return to Nigeria because of a political appointment and service to the motherland. So, he had no need to pay his annual membership dues to Georgia Bar and his law license was terminated in 2020.

The contradictory and dubious
Gazette article [which was clearly written to appeal to the emotions of simpletons and the gullible] stated that as of 2006, Femi Gbaja had paid back the $25,000 to the client so why is this old story I read many years back still an issue if not for mischief?

Certainly, he doesn't want to practice law in the State of Georgia again because of time, other personal and political engagements so that's fine.

The family name is Gbajabiamila but shortened to Gbaja in the U.S. perhaps for ease of pronounciation and spelling by Americans.

Akbar Gbaja, a U.S.-born American football star is his relative from the larger Gbajabiamila family.

Hang on... He didn't steal the money in the actual sense of holding a gun to someone's head, but only delayed in repaying the money to the client as-and-when-due.

Moreover, if he had continued to pay his license fees and membership dues to Georgia Bar, he would still have been a practicing Georgia attorney as of 2023!

I get your valid points though.

We must not support crime in the society, but for Femi Gbaja, he must have been going through a rough season in the U.S. to have dipped into a client's funds with the intention of paying back (which he eventually did in 2006... 17 years ago).

Lessons learned!

All the best.

I am not defending corruption but in a saner clime(whatever that means because no where is sane in the world) people like will not be jumping into conclusions without verifying and waiting for Gbajabiamila"s reaction.
There are no perfect places or people but the phrase "saner climes" was coined for a reason, and the reason is that some places are better than others. For example, when it comes to rule of law and accountability, most western nations, even though not perfect but are far better than Nigeria and other countries. As for Gbajagbiamila, we don't necessarily need his reaction Because his case is well known and established in the United state where it happened, it is not gossip or speculation.
