THE PROBLEM WITH YOU PRESENT DAY YOUTH IS THAT YOU BELIEVE TO HAVE A PERFECT LIFE OVERNIGHT

YOU ALL ARE SO STUPID TO BELIEVE THAT ONCE YOU GET ABROAD ALL YOUR LIFE PROBLEMS ARE SETTLED

YET THAT SAME ABROAD YOU GOING TO...NATIVES OF THE COUNTRY WITH ANCESTRAL AND GENERATION LINEAGE ARE STILL STRUGGLING TO SURVIVE AND RELY ON CREDIT CARDS AND BANK LOANS FOR SURVIVAL AND ARE SWAMPED IN HEAVY DEBTS

BACK IN THE DAY BEFORE GSM AND INTERNET...WAS IT NOT LETTERS WE WRITE AND IT WILL TAKE MONTHS BEFORE THE LETTER IS RECIEVED?

DID WE ALL DIE BACK THEN? EVEN WITHIN NIGERIA...DID PARENTS IN THE VILLAGE NOT DIE AND THEIR CHILDREN IN THE CITY WOULDN'T EVEN KNOW TILL SOMEONE HAS TO COME FROM THE VILLAGE TO INFORM THEM....SO DID WE ALL DIE FROM THE GUILT?

So this topic has to be explored because I know many people personally under this category. Now I don’t know about other countries but let’s focus on the UK for this topic.

I know that unless you are extremely lucky it is going to take you between 10 to 15 years to fully settle in terms of papers and money and career and housing etc. in between that time you are running from pillar to post and the silent prayer is that God please don’t let my mother or father fall sick within this 10 to 15 year timespan or else I am most likely never going to see them again.

Well I have many friends and relatives who this happened to. In that time span that they are still unsettled and looking for paper or money, mama get cancer for naija. They are stuck abroad. Mama eventually die. So they never got to see their mother for over 10 years and will never see her again.

So I guess the question is if you find yourself in a situation like this, being in the UK for over 8 years and papers never correct so you are stuck, then you hear that your mother is dying.

WHAT DO YOU DO? DO YOU ABORT MISSION AND RETURN BACK TO NIGERIA TO BE WITH YOUR DYING MOTHER KNOWING YOU WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO RETURN TO THE UK AGAIN OR DO YOU JUST FASHI MAMA AND LET HER DIE WHILE YOU CoNTINUE YOUR QUEST TO LOOK FOR PAPERS AND POUNDS ? What would you do?

Why is it that it's only the negative side of Japa that people keep on posting. Are there no positive sides? No matter your location there must still be challenges, just that each location has unique challenges. I wish everyone who has japad a great and fulfilled life abroad.

bro how many years have you been in Canada now ? It’s time to let Canada pass through you and let it wipe away that egocentric maniacal Nigerian way of thinking you are still clingiing onto. This is not a suffering contest. One persons ability to overcome their deficiencies does not invalidate the existence of deficiencies in oother people. You have to get out of this african mindset of comparing people’s struggles and comparing the abiliTy or inability to overcome such struggles. Humans are different. We are all not cookie cutter
are you the one in this shoes Did they complain to you about their predicaments? So why are you bothered or concerned for them I thought you left trolling in 2022. Omo na u sabi. Out of here

If you have the will to assist it shouldn't take you a year to set up an HMO for them.
Most peeps are just overly selfish once they get to settle abroad.

koonbey:
The fact that you know many people whom this has happened to is a reflection of the poor quality of your circle, not the general reality for people who travel abroad. It's because those people are entering the country illegally that it takes them decades to 'fully settle in terms of papers'.

People who enter the country legally and have their papers from day 1 are free to, and often do travel around the world, including Europe, the US, and wherever else including back home to Nigeria to visit as they wish, whether they're students or workers or whatever else.

So, dear Mr. Sukkot, make new friends or get new family members who don't go about traveling illegally, and you'll stop hearing these kinds of stories, and boring us with them as well.

Wittyness.

Why dont you add a caveat to your post? The title is misleading. You could have simply said For illegal Japarians.

I don't see why you can't travel to and fro Nigeria if you're a legal immigrant but as usual, agenda must agend.

And it's not like it's your own personal experience. Amebo!

One could leave the UK and travel out to wherever one wants if you enter into the country legitimately. It is even hard to live and prosper in the UK illegally nowadays.
One doesn’t have to wait till after 10 or 15years before one can go back to see the loved ones in Nigeria except you are not sincere or something is shady.

If you have the Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) as a student, worker or a dependant, you could enter and go out so far you have your money for flight and informed your school or took permission from your place of work.

That your kind of scenario is common in Canada, Australia and US where people that are extremely fortunate to enter with tourist visa or student visa and decided not to go again.

the bolded. yes.

in UK as well but with UK its lack of money that makes most people stuck. you need like 5000 pounds for a journey like this. not many can gather 5000 pounds cash.

Only people who cant leave are illegal immigrants whose visas have expired. Some of them could not come home for their own weddings talkless of burial. Abeg what is the big deal there now Person wey stay country illegally doesn’t have a choice na. This topic no follow.

You're 💯 on point. The OP only painted an illegal immigrant's experience, cos 10-15 years for what?

I've been into relocation and study abroad services and I can tell you from experience that some Nigerians love shortcuts, which later become longcuts.

When you tell some Nigerians to invest just 1 year learning a skill or doing a course that would help them get a good job abroad, they think it's too long, so they opt for the fast option of using a tourist visa. They get there and can't do any legal work and they have to spend over a decade settling in a foreign country.

It happens to many people. I know Muslims who won’t able to get to their parents, grandparents, and some their siblings before they were buried. People die and life moves on. Death respects no boundaries or rules. You just have to pray for the departed and move on with your life.

When we say japa we are talking about legit travels not fraudulent migration, because when folks try to discourage others from travelling they always come up with this kinda tales.

You just talk your own view and opinion. We've seen case of many residing within Nigeria and still cannot afford to go and see their parents when they fall sick...what do you have to say to that. Will you because your parents can fall sick and not travel to where your life can become better.
Moreover, you're not a Doctor.. Money buy good health care in some illness occasions.

What you forget to address is that some of these of our parents staying here in Nigeria allows their old parents to fall and die of sickness without paying them any visitation but only turn up for burial ceremony(though not all).

We can't because of that issue you addressed not go to where our lives can be better bro..

This guy with his irrelevant posts again.
I dont know of anyone on nairaland who discuss illegal migration so I dont understand the relevance of this thread.
Migrate legally, be focused and work hard. Be smart and ask for divine favour couple with grace.
U can easily build resources overseas as a young man compared to Nigeria. That's the point of Japa.
With valid work permit, u can travel to any country of your choice as u like.
Las las if abroad no favour u. Come back home and try your luck.
To live abroad is not a must.
Stop disturbing us with all this annoying threads.

If anyone gets discouraged by what he regularly posts, then the person was never ready to relocate abroad.

All I advise people is that they should japa with the right visa then you would benefit more in your destination Country and can visit Nigeria if you choose to spend your work leave there.
