Wapco has been disappointing for sure, refused to "shakebody" when stocks were rallying. I am very skeptical/bearish on all these cement companies with their price war. It is like they are competing to see who would sell at the lowest price. It is never a good sign when companies cut prices!

Wapco is still like 9% of my portfolio though, it is only that low because it has refused to move like others

Those ones doing so know themselves. I think they are very few here though.
Some are catching cruise, some are hopeful, some are sticking to their plans, some are rethinking it. Then the oga pata pata of them all are the ones searching for press releases every hour.

Have you checked the requirements to become a stock broker registered

Do not go that direction. I have lost some money to thieves called stockbrokers, fully registered by the NSE, now NGX.

Do not even go that direction.

Where is Cashcraft today? Where is Maininvest today? Where is Partnership Investment Company Plc today? Where is First Alstate Securities Limited today? I would have even added Adonai Stockbrokers join, but by then I had learnt the game, so I managed to escape them unhurt.

As I said, Stockbrokers are the most trusted people on earth. It is part of the game. We win some, and we lose some.

In June, 2015, immediately that nonsense Buhari entered office, he banned 40 items from being imported into Nigeria. Tinubu has ordered the immediate cancellation of that Ban. Nigerians are now free to import the following 40 listed products. They are no longer contraband.

This will never improve FX and they know it, the fact that Euro Bond and Foreign Curreny Bond are on the list a dead giveaway that the policy is not to improve FX, the Ban was introduced to try and stimulate local production, it's aim was stop importation of these products so that Entrepreneurs in Nigeria will see it as an opportunity to invest and start producing locally to meet demand, however we were not able to meet the demand locally which led to the increase in even Nigerian made goods because the supply was limited

I believe the Policy is aimed at flooding the market with Supply and maybe reduce the cost of these goods but Forex will definitely continue to slide until it reaches it's balance level

I guess this implies there would be a fall in prices of these commodities in the Nigerian market?

Buhari was a buffoon for banning these items when the Nigerian producers haven't acquired enough capacity to meet demands.

So when will we acquire enough capacity to meet up with local demands, probably when N5000 will buy $1
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by crownprince2017: 5:22am On Oct 13, 2023
The policy by buhari to ban importation could have been the best but it was just a policy without monitoring, how can government put the local production in the hand of the few.

Local production without healthy competition leads to monopoly and monopoly by greedy few industrialists lead to inflation.

Buhari should have had a timeframe on the goals of the policy and decide accordingly, if he had done that we might be in a different place now.

I think one of the aim of encouraging this local production was to bring down prices as the local firms gain ground but the reverse was the case.

I believed Mr president has done well since our local firm only think about their bank account only, even if tinubu continue with the policy for 50 years, these People will keep inflation at the highest possible.

Mr president also need to break banks monopoly of fx, people don't need to go to bank physically to get fx, let the transaction be online at official rate, I should be able to convert my naira to any currency I want via my bank applications if I meet up with the laid down rules to get fx, like that there would be sharp reductions in fx corruptions.

Government need to understand that banks are business ventures that have a profit target. Let the process be independent of human being and see what will happen.

All in all, Which companies are likely to benefits from this policy. cool cool

It will ease the pressure on the black market.
These importers can now also access foreign currency through the commercial banks via Letters of credit and Bills for Collection at the official rate.

Those ones were added later. These are the 40 on the original list issued by CBN and signed by Buhari or so. You want to see a copy of it?

Everybody be expert now on top forex and importation matter . Even People that don’t produce locally and people that do no importation. Nothing will change short term . Not prices of the goods released from the ban to access official dollars . Simply because there is no official dollars . Did prices of goods that had acess to official dollars come down ? Trajectory is still upwards for all goods both locally produced and imported grin grin

If you have anything to buy and you have money . Buy on time . Delay is dangerous cool

More goods to import, and more people wanting to import. It will put more pressure on the official markets, and the black market.

This policy reversal by CBN is not good for the fragile economy in view of limited national $$$ incomes.

Dunlop failed because of tire importation. Nigeria remains a high cost production area for businesses for several reasons.
