The recent announcement of Super Falcons' squad for the Paris 2024 Olympics qualifier against Ethiopia brings forth various opinions on the exclusion of the veteran captain, Onome Ebi. 🇳🇬⚽

Former Super Falcons coach, Godwin Izilein, has praised the decision, emphasizing the need for new talent to take the stage. "This is the best decision because for how long do we continue to have Ebi in the team," Izilein voiced. "She was no longer needed and useful in the team."

Ebi, at 40 years old, had made history at the 2023 World Cup and played in six World Cups. However, Izilein's perspective is that it's time to give the younger generation an opportunity to shine.

In contrast, ex-Falcons captain, Stella Mbachu, believes Ebi's experience is valuable and age alone should not determine her role in the team. "As long as she remains fit and still very active," Mbachu commented, "she should be allowed to stay."

What's your take on this?

What's Mbachu saying? 🤦🏿‍♂️🤦🏿‍♂️🤦🏿‍♂️🤦🏿‍♂️

I dunno what's the boy's scout mentality when it comes to GWG. Just look at what stella is spewing? So make she dey warm bench cos she be assistant lecturer wey dey lecture youngings on the team on how to do it abi?

The same excuse they were giving for Musa in SE as well.
That line of excuse has expired and should be retired abeg. Na only Naija we go dey cook this kine excuse. The ish is she can't at present, bench anyone in a competitive game. So why the fuss? Na person wey get experience dey do like pikin upandan be dis? Dey swear at everyone that feels she should leave when ovation is loud? Entering dm of People on Twitter to insult them upandan for having a contrary opinion? Seriously
Funny enough, that Experience she got, we need it in a coaching capacity. Let her step down, go the Elneny way and start to become a goddess to Girls in the NWSL instead of this Gbasgbos over spot in SF. All the best to her.

As I said before, it's not up to Onome. There are many players that did not retire from the national team until years after they stopped playing. The coach/FA simply stopped inviting them.

If Nigeria feels that she is too old, then it's up to the coaches/FA to stop inviting her.

I agree with you in principle, it's the ideal thing to do. Nigeria (by extension Africa) sadly is far from ideal, so what obtains in a sane society doesn't necessarily apply here.

We all know the FA historical has a say in who makes the team and who doesn't. The Nigerian u23 men's team won't be participating in the Olympics next year because of this. The list of players invited will make you puke. They literally sold slots to players. They invited a naturalized Lebanese who had no professional history at all, and signed with a 2nd Division nameless Azerbaijan club before his invite. He got his invitation because of his parents relationship with those at the top. To make matters worse, he couldn't even feature at all cause he came to camp injured. People literally make deals to share bonuses to make the team. If Randy hadn't stomp his feet on the group same would have happened at the world cup.

If Randy is retained and given free hand to pick his team and then he invites Onome, I sincerely won't call her out. I'll simply just call out Randy. At that point she's no longer the problem, Randy is.

You have just agreed with what I said. It is the responsibility of the FA and the coach to pick the team. Players don't pick themselves and every player can have a dream, even if it is unrealistic. Therefore the fault is with the FA and coach and they are the ones that should be called out.

What you're basically saying is this is what should be "all things being equal". And I'm saying things are never equal in this side of the world.

Do you realize if Rita Chikwelu wanted to have her way in the team she could have? She's spent too many years in and around the team to have built enough clout to influence decisions. That's my point. In societies where things aren't equal players have to do better and be better. It may be difficult wagging war against institutions, but it's a lot easier dealing with individual players who don't do what's right for the team.

As you have seen, it won't have an effect on the individual, except for creating bad blood. Onome Ebi will still be on this list if she has her way, but the FA dropped her.

It is the FA and coach that are responsible, not the player.

We all know Randy has free hand in picking his team. U guys just want to kick the can down the road.

The question has always been what makes you feel u know more than Randy Waldrum in this situation? He feels Onome Ebi has something to bring to the table, not the NFF or the Nigerian government.

U guys are causing unnecessary tension around our national team and it is getting out of hand. Even after the woman gets dropped we are still antagonising her, why?

First of all Rita never announced her national team retirement. Then u also have Ngozi Okobi who said she talked to people inside NFF who said nothing could be done about selection. So no, Rita would not be able to clout her way back into the team. The same man who dropped Ngozi okobi and Rita Chikwelu is the same man that wants to keep Onome Ebi.

You're being dishonest here. The crux of this conversation started after the world cup.

Even though I wasn't particularly and advocate of Onome going to the world cup I wasn't against it either. Even though she'd been without a club and was scandalously attached to an NWFL club she doesn't play with, I could sincerely understood why she should be there, being the captain of the team and potentially being a good way to end a sterling career. I gave considerations because of these things.

After the world cup however, she no longer had those considerations from me. Like I said in my earlier comment, I wouldn't have called her out if the list was Randy's. If Randy drops a list with Onome in it, my beef will be with him. For the record I haven't commented on this subject since the last time a list that included her was released. Th closest to this was my expression of satisfaction on her name being left out while giving my remark on the release of the recent roster. To characterise that as causing unnecessary tension in the team is being and alarmist and frankly won't work. As free citizens we are and will continue to give our opinion on our teams as we deem fit.

Are you talking of the same man who was told not to invite at least 2 players on record (Desire and Oluehi) and couldn't do a thing? If it applied to non invitation of players couldn't that have logically played out for invitation of certain players?

The only time he put his feet on the ground was on the world cup list while they again attempted to do same thing they had been doing. It was what led to him being blacked out, receiving no communication from the FA and what ultimately led to him doing those interviews. If he hadn't played his cards right and started this right early he would have been asked since.

It was reportedly one of the things Peisero insisted on in negotiating his new contract too as he did as tired of the NPFL quote forced on him. To pretend these things don't happen is just funny. I repeat again, if Uncle really wanted in in the team she would have.

Couldn’t do a thing? Did Oparanozie and Oluehi comeback by their own power or did Randy Waldrum get them back Show me one singular situation that a player has come back into the team by their own power?

There is no way someone will believe that Randy called out the NFF only to go back to business as usual after the world cup.

I don't even know what you're responding to. When did eguavon say Waldrum picked his team post world cup? I started with saying this criticism largely had a contest and it began after the release of the list before this. So show me where Eguavon said Waldrum picked his list post world cup. We don't need Eguavon to tell us Waldrum picked his world cup list, Waldrum said so himself and it was the primary basis for his problem with the NFF.

I also can't remember where I said Onome is"spoiling the team". Please show me in case I forgot. Finally, what opinion did I give that didn't have sense? Please draw my attention to it. I haven't personally insulated Onome, I've given her her due credit where necessary, my only stance is she's should no longer be a part of the team. What's senseless about that?

No Randy didn't get them back. Deltamani detailed some of the things that happened behind the scene. How they had to apologize to the NFF folks before they could make a return to the team.

Let's even for a minute assume you were right. Can you also acknowledge by that same logic that Randy at some point wanted certain players in his team and for a period of at least 5 months he couldn't because the folks at NFF blacked them out? How can you say a man had the liberty to pick his team when he couldn't call up certain eligible players? How is that not interference?

How are you suddenly ignoring that the NFF wanted to force a goalkeeper on him (which by the way they acknowledged) and also wanted Abiodun out of the team (which Olajire acknowledged) and couldn't have their way cause the man was forced to pull out the terms of his contract. Isn't that the only reason he wasn't sure of returning?

If a player is not doing what's right for the team, what does that mean?

My sources say different, but I won't dispute with the head of the technical team of the NFF.

On the second issue, I was speaking in generic terms, don't conflate them. On Onome, I don't mince words I've been very clear.

Are you even hearing yourself. So they prevented him from having access to 2 players, the least of which was away from the t am for 5 months and you're saying what exactly. He ot course acknowledged that he advocated for them to both return to them team but the eventually return was still at the NFF's mercy and it wasn't until both apologized that they got back. The timeline of this was months. How is that not interference for God's sake. Why throw the word "dishonest" around when you're the one doing it.

The only time the coach decided to have his way was the world cup. From the conversation he was bidding his time and had to insist on the terms of his contract when they wouldn't see reason. It's the world cup and he was willing to burn bridges to have his way. How on earth is the entire scenario I just painted free of interference?

The plan was for him to do so in September when he comes to Nigeria for the Sao Tome game. After the postponement the NFF went radio silent according to Osasu. I'm guessing same applies now. He'll probably handle the game and contract terms will be discussed and hopefully signed when he comes to Nigeria for the return leg.

Except she has other plans, drafting her into any of our teams shouldn't be a problem. She's listed everywhere as Nigerian (born in Lagos) and is very likely not yet a US citizen. Couldn't get a profile that listed her age so do not know if she's eligible to play next year's u20 world cup. If she is, efforts should be made to get her on the team.

She's fast, can dribble, gives well weighted passes and can score goals too.

Players with her stature tend to be very technical especially with their low center of gravity

Think Hazard, Messi, Veratti, Gavi or even Linda Caicedo and Lauren James to mention a few

She’s very much U20 but not certain if she’s still eligible for U17 as her age isn’t listed anywhere yet.. She recently left CanterBury School to College so she should be eligible for any of the age grade team..

Don't know her story but it appears she was scouted from Nigeria and it's unlikely she's a citizen.
