God's kingdom's focus is not materialism but spiritual.
God can bless you materially but that's not the focus.

Romans 14:16-19
16 Therefore do not let your good be spoken of as evil;
17 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
18 For he who serves Christ in these things is acceptable to God and approved by men.
19 Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another.

The reason Nigeria is not prospering financially is simple, we have not proven to be faithful/trustworthy even in the little money (unrighteous mammon) God has given us. A little money and we start misbehaving. Money easily reveals people's true nature, even pastors.

Luke 16:10-12
10 He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much.
11 Therefore if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?
12 And if you have not been faithful in what is another man’s, who will give you what is your own?

Besides, it's obvious most churches preach the prosperity (financial/money) gospel and it is not the Gospel. You cannot serve God and Mammon. You have to choose one.
Godliness is not for gain but for the salvation of the soul and pursuing the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. 1 Timothy 6
What God has charted for each person is the BEST WILL/PLAN/DESTINY for them.
Unfortunately, we do not know/trust God's plan.
Only God can reveal this as we learn to follow Christ through the Word and the leading of the Holy Spirit... Faithfully.

I'm merely interested in the earlier part of the post which is a good discussion and teachable point.

I agree with you about the aspect of people using insults... It's just a shame. I have had my fair share of insults.

Honestly, I have lost count... Right now, I think I have grown a thick skin for it.

Apologies. I thought you were the same moniker spewing insults up and down. I just quoted your post without looking at the username.

About your question about religion before slavery and colonialism; yes our ancestors were theists (and in fact at that time 99.99% of people in the world were theists) but the brand of theisms was not the violent, exploitative and forcefully imposed variety. Our own religion was tailored towards helping us understand and cope with our harse environment and challenges. That's was why a tribe never imposes its own religion on a neighbouring tribe, not to talk of a neighbouring country or race. Even the Jewish religion from with Islam and Christianity got their roots was a tribal religion, they never tried to impose yahweh on neighbouring canaanite tribes, their conflicts were mainly fights over pastoral lands within the desert.

The Roman Christian religion and Arabic Muslim religion was a political tool, a political tool for conquering and controlling other people's and races, so much so that the battle line became Jerusalem and southern Europe. In Africa, the Muslims conquered Africa - all the way from the North to the West until the European coming from the coast stopped them. At the end of the day the Muslim ruled northern parts of most countries in west Africa while the Christians ruled the coasts.

Religion was an effective weapon (even more effective than guns) in the colonalisation of Africa.

Trying to list poorest and crisis ridden countries as most prayerful is why I questioned this statistic!!

Yes it is prayer that turned Dubia into a beautiful city....you can as well pray that NEPA shouldn't take light for the next six months.

You can have a turnaround without prayers. Happened to me severally when my wallet was hacked with 6m worth of crypto stolen and a platform I was using rug pulled.
Just like people in countries like UK, Netherlands who don't pray, I just manned up and took control of my life. I never prayed to any imaginary sky daddy.
Same with when my pops died.
You don't need prayers. Its useless

Turn around without prayers? O easy gann!
Prayers will not take a place of hard work, that can't be compromised but there are forces of life that makes things to bear....
I had a project sometimes in the past, it was going on well until government policy frustrated it. Some stuffs are not ordinary bro.

1. In Nigeria(and many other 3rd world countries), we didn't have covid impact on us. Why?
First things first, the life expectancy in Nigeria is 50 years or so. In Italy, its 82, US its 77 and China 78. What it means is they generally outlive us, with better quality of life, because of better healthcare, food, air etc. So they have a higher percentage of elderly folks. And since they have better healthcare, old folks with debilitating diseases like heart, liver and kidney failures live longer. In Nigeria, most of these folks are already dead due to relatively poorer healthcare system. Now what covid did was wipe out all these elderly folks in these countries because those diseases reduce immunity. Since the population here is relatively young, the impact of covid was lessened. Old folks died for sure, but we didn't have the numbers we had like Italy had. Remember italy was severely ravaged then, but their young folks were still there, playing Serie A and shouting in the stadia. Worse still, they had hospices and old people's home where old folks are kept, so it was easy for covid to clear old folks.
The vaxxes did a job of helping the morbidity and mortality, but the virus started mutating and its variants are tormenting Chinese senior citizens . Covid never went away, bro. It just mutated/evolved to a more virulent strain. Back then we had Delta, before it mutated to Alpha and Omicron. And the more mutations it undergoes, the less virulent it is. So that means less troublesome symptoms like cough, breathlessness. But the drawback is it spreads easier now. Everyone now has it. Many have multiple infections in a month but the more infections the less troublesome the symptoms are(if it is the same strain).
Remember December 2021 people had catarrh and other respiratory symptoms which they attributed to the weather. That was the start of Omicron in Nigeria.
So next time people say BS, try and research and come to your own conclusion, and reduce our IPSI levels.
2. Its funny you are twisting what the bible said so it would be out of the line of fire.
Your bible clearly said

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened Matthew 7:7-8

I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it shall be done for him. Therefore I tell you, all that you ask for in prayer, believe that you will receive it and it shall be yours. (Mark 11:24-25)

And whatever you ask in my name, I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything of me in my name, I will do it. (John 14:13-14)

(Matthew 17:20 For truly, I say to you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.

Not only that it literally said the above, your pastors and members also say the same thing. So wtf are you yammering about?
3. You said Pray and Work is the correct order, right?
What about Work and no Pray? Do you think it yields results?

You have said so many things here. Your in-depth analysis of COVID-19 timeline is apt but the details is not necessary..... You know why? COVID-19 is not one of our problems in Nigeria, likewise prayers.

Our problem is bad people in government. Holding God responsible for our general negligence and perfunctory leadership is the reason for our backwardness.

Work and pray or pray and work... Just make sure you are not lacking in both.

Lastly, I appreciate your comments and the Bible passages quoted.

This makes a lot of sense...!

In all these, religion should never get in the way of common sense and industry. It shouldn't serve as a tool for control and manipulation of people like we see today.

It's a good thing this younger generation is waking up and renouncing religion in its crude forms.

"We pray too much" is in fact the most important reason for Nigeria's underdevelopment, and the statistics presented in this thread confirmed it. The amount of man hours and resources spent on prayers in Nigeria is enormous. If we expend the same energy on knowledge, skills and productive work, we would be a first world nation just like China.

Moderate amount of prayer would not have much negative impact of production and development, but excessive prayer as done in Nigeria is antithetical to development. In Nigeria Christians have church activities act least 5 times a week, whole Muslims go to mosques or prayer grounds 5 times a day.

There are two types of societies - faith based and knowledge based society.
Faith based societies consists of churches/mosques/shrines, priests, juju, prayers, witches, spirits, etc., knowledge based societies consists of libraries/research centres/museums, scientists, inventions, gadgets, etc.

Faith based societies send people on pilgrimages, knowledge based societies send people to the moon and other planets.

Faith based societies are almost always poor while knowledge based societies are almost always wealthy.
There is alway a war between Faith and knowledge within each society. When faith wins poverty and ignorance prevails, but when knowledge wins prosperity and enlightenment takes over. Good examples were Greece during the golden age of plato/socrates and aristototle, Egypt during the time of the Ptolemaic dynasty, and Europe during the renaissance.

I disagree. Many European countries were deeply religious when they were developing into industrial powers.

Plus, becoming an atheist country does not mean development. The old Soviet Union advanced very well...for some time, but was always far behind the arguably religious USA for most of its histroy. Then it collapsed in 1991. And they were not religious at the time...state athesim was the offical philosophy

We are underdeveloped because we think we can make a living from selling the large amounts of nattural resources we have. We haven't grasped that these resources are finite. Japan (Shinto) and South Korea (Buddhist, Chondoist, and Christian) are developed because they realized their resources were limited and immediately commenced measures to develop themselves.

I',m tired of people blaming religion, or even atheism for a country's collapse...the Soviets collapsed because , they thought they could develop utopia without profit. Their abandoning religion did not change that flawed idea at all. The US IS DEVELOPED, despite the high religion in that country, NOT BECAUSE IT IS GOD'S OWN COUNTRY, or because God favored them...but because they took the idea from Europe that resources are finite, and developed accordingly. Then the largeness of the country forced them to do things like develop communications and transport....not for nothing that things like the telegraph, TELEPHONE, satellites, the internet, and airplane were developed in the US.

Countries develop when they wake up to the finitness of their resources. Simple and short. Blaming religion or prayer or anything else is just humbug.

Exactly the post I was looking for. This post right here shows that this country is eternally doomed.
A post was made stating that your country is almost the most prayerful in the world. And what does this genius come up with? Dude said our hope is in god. Which god? The same god we have been praying for 63 years and things have been going downhill EVERY SINGLE YEAR! Same god that said call on him and he shall answer but yet the country IS STUCK IN THE SAME DOLDRUMS YEAR AFTER YEAR!
Remember each year, the population of christians and Muslims increase, thus more people praying, yet more misery. Also churches are exploding all over the place. The only thing exploding along with it is corruption. The economy is going down with hardship and austerity taking up the reins.
Yet my dude says our hope is in god. Are you saying he's on a vacation or what?
Ok. Look at the least prayerful countries. UK, Canada, Denmark etc. Guess what? They don't give a fvck about your god but they are way better than you. You even run to them en masse.
Logical reasoning is really a problem for Nigerians.

Don't be deceived. They still pray. But not for security, good road etc.

But as for prayer, they still.

And they pray to God every time, every day.

Absolute rubbish. Hard work, honesty, the rule of law and patriotism exalts a nation. Prayer is just wishful thinking without any basis in reality. Its just a physiological device to keep the poor
abused and exploited masses hopeful, docile and controllable.
What you listed are the the components of Righteousness

1. Transparency
2. Equity
3. Justice
4. Honesty

Righteousness exalts a nation. Not prayer. This isn't saying that prayer is bad.

Then answer the question, is Nigeria a righteous nation? If not why, inspite of having the highest number of churches and mosques in the world, inspite of being the second most prayerful nation in the world.

Why are we then highly religious but at the same time highly unrighteousness? We have become do loathed that no country wants to let a nigerian into their soil.
