Sepedi dance of course, why? Because I'm a Mopedi.

The Sotho dance isn't difficult too... As long as I can move my shoulders, then the rest is nothing.

And again with the Swati dance, all I need is a large kitchen knife and a shield, their dance steps don't seem difficult.

And with the Tsongas, I'll first need a xhibelani to test if I can shake it... grin grin grin
so you also show off your boobs and flaunt it in front of the camera fa grin
Show us your own video make we see cool

No bro, you got that one wrong. The worst type of betrayal is mass murder of 3 million indegenes right after the colonialists leave. Up until today Igbos cannot leave peacefully with the rest because of that very post colonial war. Should we also dive into the Ghana must go saga ? grin. Or how about modern day slavery "human trafficking " where Nigerian males traffick their girls to Italy , and even worse sell them as slaves to arabs in Libya? . Or how about we talk about Nigerians given an opportunity to come and trade in South Africa but turn on the communities that welcome them by drugging and trafficking their children? Rubbish African unity!. You can't even unite Southern Nigeria to speak with one voice against the North grin grin, I won't even mention uniting Nigeria grin ,but it's a whole Africa you think you can unite? grin grin. If you pay close attention to our languages, you'll realize that most of them are related... Let me give an example of when we say "I love you" in some of our languages.

In Sepedi, we say "ke a go rata"
In Zulu we say "ngiyakuthanda"
In Xhosa we say "ndiyakuthanda"
In Tsonga we say "ndza ku randza"
In Swati we say "nyiyakutsandza"

They all rhyme and if you're the patient type, you'll learn them just fine by just associating with the people of those other tribes or by just listening to their music and watching their telenovelas or any TV programs... Because as you read the subtitles, you'll learn a thing or two... That's how I learned Zulu and a bit of Xhosa... I also used to think that Tsonga and Venda are difficult until I started listening to their music and learning their lyrics... So far my Tsonga is much better now and my Venda is still getting there... cheesy cheesy cheesy
this explains a lot, I can see the similarity in the language structure, we have sometime similar though, but I can hardly make a sentence out of any other indegenous language, only some words and phrases.

I thought I should open a thread on how to identify SA tribes by their dance moves just so that you don't have to assume that every SA traditional dance you see it's Zulu dance... grin grin grin.. Because most of y'all only know about the Zulus.

1. I'll start with Zulu, so you guys can check and compare... cheesy cheesy cheesy.. Zulu dance involves a lot of high kicks and sometimes they'd even throw themselves on the floor, if you can do high kicks, then learning the Zulu dance shouldn't be difficult... It's more like traditional aerobics.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3HT7csqqsCc?si=rsqqsDzTc7OVPKHj

2. Swati.. Their dance moves are more laid back and reserved, the ladies would usually dance holding large knives and shields while the men would dance holding Spears and shields.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLuYD0wc5ug?si=TX5k4AfGyRKMIb7-

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xiUCOU0g2eA?si=L6OXYh5fuDBHm7zY

3. Basotho... With Sotho people, they mainly focus on moving their shoulders when dancing.. grin grin grin.. Sothos in the house, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong... Their ladies would sometimes dance while on their knees and their men would be holding long sticks.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ckW5pOAjRE?si=Vvmnw3-2RpvPxFAD

4. Xhosa... Their dance moves involve a lot of stomping on the floor/ground barefoot.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ASMJVonDl0?si=HoQ9e8RvDgncOPPS

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fc1gL9l1uP8?si=Q-FVPaWeiQPofuTf

5. Tsonga... With Tsonga dance, one has to move the waist a lot and with the ladies, they have to shake that xhibelani( traditional Tsonga skirt), apparently you're a Tsonga by mistake if you can't move your waist... grin grin grin.. Sho Modjozi's Tsonga traditional music dance would make a great example for this one.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rt1EJ4SH07E?si=FSjIGRE9BZFzqM81

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jkXL_TMEig?si=UTwOdq_HHTiQoz5T

6. Batswana... I don't care what others may think, but Batswana are the best South African traditional dancers in my opinion... When they dance, they usually bend over a bit, make use of their hands a lot( especially with the ladies), make facial expressions, and stomp the floor with their creative dance steps... It's like their dance moves always have a story to tell.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=va06tKKKNd8?si=W9wIPi3GDVe5ngmk

7. Sepedi tribe... With us the Pedis, we're all over the place... grin grin grin.. we do a lot of kicking, back and forth, going left and right, up and down, and running around ( if necessary) grin grin grin.. Sometimes we would lift our hands into the air like we're praying.. Our dance moves are like the contemporary dance done in a quicker pace... Sometimes we would dance in a slower and reserved pace, you just can't predict us... grin grin grin

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2fQm39DiSlY?si=vcAX_Z775CTWuFCu

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Cg-6Wx4g-I?si=GLpxib1ntiLIkuxd

8. Ndebele tribe... I'm not gonna lie, I don't know much about the Ndebele tribe, but their dance moves seem like a combination of the Swati and Zulu dance because their ladies' dance moves are more reserved like the Swatis while the men's dance moves involve some high kicks like the Zulus... They love blowing whistles too, I just remembered from the time I used to watch traditional music shows with my grandparents... grin grin grin

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2fGk2dmMs8?si=_9-_A2eyyuCD3pjd

9. Last but not least, the Venda tribe... The Venda dance involves a lot of jumping up and down and it seems like their dance moves are a bit aggressive, but not in a bad way.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTaHLgcf4Bc?si=hkr2iGDBUcdyZRas

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CnqvDxIPgE?si=IntgrMh_1ufslYsR

My apologies to the Khoisan people in case they come across this thread, for I couldn't find any videos of their dance moves.

Whaat?😲😲😲 You must be joking... Funny enough, as a child there was this song by an SA artist titled mo ni fere, we used to sing along it without knowing the meaning of mo ni fere... She would say mo ni fere and then say it in English, but we just didn't pay attention.

It was only when I was in my late teens that I asked this other Nigerian for the meaning of I love you in Yoruba and she said "mo ni fere".

why was an SA artist singining in Yoruba, for me personally I listen to Yoruba songs often times this songs are hardly subtitled in English, we just sing along anyway without understanding what it means, interesting enough the last song I googled the interpretation was jerusalema, I loved it so much that I became curious, because it sounds like she was telling a story, popular songs in Nigeria are always mixed in English and indegenous language so you get what the singer is talking about by just listening to the English part. Btw Mo ni fere truly means I love you just checked it right now, atleast I learnt something today.

If I asked why was Burna boy singing in Zulu in the song Jerusalem, wouldn't I be accused of being xenophobic by Nigerians? undecided undecided undecided

I don't know anyone from my school who participated in it, but my grandparents taught me a lot about my culture.

Most of the videos that I posted are from Indoni( Mr and Miss cultural SA festival) and one of the requirements to participate in such a festival is to be a virgin and be between the ages of 14 to 24, if I'm not mistaken.

So even if I wanted to join, I no longer qualify... grin grin grin
