Those books are rated based on copies sold. Go on Wikipedia and see the bestsellers and their sales records. Things Fall Apart is one of the best-selling books in this world.

Prior to Things Fall Apart, every books about Africans and their way of life was written by Europeans who portrayed Africans as Savages or Subhuman species.

you must set forth at dawn. I think he writes more of drama - the lion and the jewel, the trial of brother jero.
Even for drama, I rate late Ola Rotimi more than Soyinka. Ola Rotimi's Ovonramwen Nogbaisi is a classic. I so enjoyed that drama book that I had to order it from Amazon last year to reread and keep.

I've been reading way too many political books but I had to to really understand why Africa and Africans are the way they are. Even went as deep as reading books about Upper Egypt during the times of Black Kings like Imhotep, Zoser, Snefuru etc

If I had used that same energy at novels, I'd have read quite a lot and so unfortunately, I've read only Things Fall Apart, How To Kill A Mockingbird and The Great Gatsby from that list.

My favourite novels of all time, 1984 by George Orwell and Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe
