She will be going alone (A hard and tough decision i must confess) leaving the me and my 5 months old baby till when things are soft for us to join her.

I don't know how easy or how soon it will be for her to send invite for us to join her.
How's life in the UK with a single mum?

Who have passed through this situation and how did you people pull through

Hi, I am currently based in the UK and I can say that Nairaland is a wrong place to seek such a life changing advice. I have read through some of the advice here and I wept.

My brother, moving over to UK with your family will be the best decision you will take. If you have the finances, apply as a dependent together with your child and travel together.

There are more jobs here than 9ja and the pay is far better than what you will get in Nigeria.

Both of you can actually manage your time very well here and still take care of your child.

NEVER MAKE THE MISTAKE OF STAYING BACK IN NIGERIA. Secure a good future for your child

LMAO. You want a man to take care of a 5 month old baby while the mother is alive? Are you normal?

Is there anything wrong with a father taking care of his own child?

Let her go.
I know a family where the wife left first then the husband and her two kids joined her few years later.

They are doing quite well I must say so see it as a sacrifice. You both need to sit and talk before she leaves. If the tables were turned, I'm sure she'll support you as well.

All the best.

So what? You cant fend for a baby? What if the mother died during childbirth, how would you take care of your baby?

If you can manage with your Mom and your wife's Mom supporting you...this is the best decision. Let her go and get a place within 3 months and settle down. It is easier for her to apply for an apartment, run up and down jobwise and save enough for tickets and all. She needs to be OK so the stress of your expenses plus the baby....wont be a major liability and a major issue for your marriage. I doubt she will leave you and the baby and forget about Nigeria...as for the baby food and breast feeding...that is overrated. If the baby is OK...she can send enough funds for you to buy high end meals for the baby...but the plan for reunification should be 3-6 months.

She should go ALONE, you should get your female relatives or hers to assist in childcare and you should also learn the basics of childcare because you will be 100% involved with taking care of your child here in the UK.

Then after about 6 months, arrangements to join her can start.

Arriving, she should rent a furnished room in a shared house that is bills inclusive. Alongside her sponsored job, she should get a 20hrs per week part time job as allowed by the visa and after about 4 months, she should start looking for a 2 bedroom flat in preparation for the arrival of you and the baby, getting a house for a family is not a day's job.

When you and the baby come over, you will be taking care of the baby when she is at work and you can only go to work when she is off work, this means you will work with her work rota.

Woman should leave a 5 months baby behind?

How many peeps from 9ja,ever applied for a Job in the UK as nursing mothers and got it?! Something did not tell you the agent used here gave them limited offers via the Job?!
You come across as an illiterate living in the UK.If they had all these luxury would a mum leave her 5month old?! Nonsense!

You obviously don't know anything about the formative years of a child and and mother bond ....a 5 months old child is too young to be left with the father to look after period ...And yes breast milk has more nutrition then all the baby formula in the world

Why is a 5-month-old supposedly too young to be left with the father? Are you afraid the father will rape the child or sell the child? Why can't a father raise his own baby? undecided

2. So, all the babies raised on formulae don't equally grow up healthy? undecided

Those of us who have lived in the UK should Stop selling these people fantasies. It may work it may not work but prepare his mind for what could come. There is more to life than just making money. The emotional toll separation can take on a family is real!!!! Furthermore and you know this. His wife is now his boss. It may not sound nice to put it that way but that is the reality. He will be at the beck and call if his wife.

Thanks.... Quite some thoughts here. Let me also add that am in website designing and currently working from home.

How easy is it over there getting clients remotely. Majority of my clients here in Niger are through referrals.

Are you into tech in the UK? I would appreciate your thoughts on this.

Am very grateful to you guys

For you to function and make money in the IT world in the UK or any other western nation, you need proper understanding of SDLC. It goes beyond knocking template together to evolve a shiny website. We are talking about proper understanding of building an enterprise-level solution.

This is the time to roll up your sleeve and learn - the road wont be smooth but you will smile at the end of the tunnel.

Women don’t bring anything to the table but here y’all are fretting about how he’s going to care for a 5 month old by himself. Almost as if we are necessary for survival. But what do I know.

The many ways by which bad governance is destroying us. Normally skilled couples are supposed to earn renumeration befitting of skilled workers and be happy to build a home together in their homeland. Now we have to solve the dy/dx of traveling for better quality of life and fair renumeration while risking the loss of relationships and happiness of family. I'm not averse to traveling but only on a leisure visit. This forced migration is devilish and embarrassing

i agree. japa dey make all of them mad and the leaders are not correcting the mentality

Klass99:
Did I read that correctly? The part about leaving a 5 months old baby behind or did you in your confusion mistakenly type that, OP?

Hahn! This japa syndrome has some people's brains wired so weirdly they are not thinking straight, while putting japa ahead of everyone and everything that matters......like a 5 month old baby , family time and life together, a reasonably good life where incessant suffer head is not even their reality.

Is this family separation absolutely necessary for greener pastures? Is your living situation in Naija so terrible that a 5 month old baby has to be separated from its mother? Can you people not delay gratification and carefully plan your move together at the same time?

Even me that is not interested in children of my own, I cannot fathom leaving behind or being separated from a 5 month old baby, because babies and toddlers fascinate me to no end. They are an awesome wonder, so sweet and cuddly at that age.

But what do I know, majority of you claim japa is for the sake of your children and their future so who am I to argue?
