This people complaining doesn't know that there's something called an Amazon fire stick. If they do, they would gladly Uninstall their dstv.

For 2 years now I have stopped using dstv. Anyone that uses a firestick for a day would realize they've been in bandage all this time with dstv

And how much internet do you need to have to use it. Or your internet is free?

The cheapest unlimited internet I know is about N12k for 10Mbps

Poor people in Nigeria, unu sorry o.

Now you people will learn that elections have consequences.

You tried to be funny but you only ended up exposing how dense you truly are.

Let me break it down for you like you're 5 years old.

The astronomical increase in dollar rates, fuel price, and gas prices has made the ease of doing business become harder than Further Maths, even a teenager knows this, but you're trying to bend the facts.

These massive increases in cost of living has resulted in the shutting down and relocation of most businesses. It has also ensured that we do not get new foreign investors because nobody wants to do business where the cost of living is unbearably high not to talk of the cost of running their businesses.

As a result, the businesses who choose to stay have to make adjustments to suit the current realities. DSTV has increased subscription prices 2 times this year alone (something they used to do in the span of 3-5 years before), guess what else keeps increasing by the day too? Your guess is as good as mine. wink

So the next time you choose to lie shamelessly and try to shift the blame from your "egbon" who's terrible economic policies have destroyed Nigerias economy barely 6 months after he was sworn in, think again. Not all of us are as shallow as you are.

Elections have dire consequences!
From your little or no sense of yours abi? All you igbos will die of Tinunbu hatred, what is your problem with Yoruba self because we don't allow you to destroy our land like you did yours abi? It's not yet time for you to cry pls reserve your tears , mumu.

Thats your own..not many people hv laptop and its uncormfy watching and paying data to watch your favourite tv programmes.

Well, at this rate, many people will have to give up the cable TV luxury.

With the Nigerians have learned to adjust to suffering, DStv should start packing its bags to leave.

Sadly, more job losses looming.

Is it really about that? You never see price of everything else going up?
I'm actually referring to viable competition from other TV providers. Remember how MTN was exploiting Nigerians until Glo came up with per second billing etc.

Well there are plenty of "Old School" folks in Nigeria who prefer Cable TV to Internet Contents. We should respect their choice & not call them illiterates.

The point is everything is more expensive. Just tabulate prices of stuff 6 months ago and now.

Sliced bread was N700 9 months ago, N900 6 months ago, N1,100 3months ago and now N1, 300!!

Do the same for diesel.

But you expect DSTv to remain same?

So if you spend N15k for internet, it's same as Dstv middle tier, so what's really the difference.? You make it seem like there is some huge saving folks aren't taking advantage of and we are all dumb for not doing so.

I didn't make that comment, Chief.

Personally, I don't have any issues with DStv. They have a business to run, and Nigeria's current economic climate is not sweet for businesses to thrive.

I simply maintain, that it is up to average Nigerians to keep DStv in Nigeria by continued patronage with these inflated prices or boycott them and have them finally join other departing corporations.

That 20k will buy you 100GB data. More than enough to stream for a month.

2 hrs of the 1080p video on DSTv is about 2GB at least. The only way 100GB will be enough for a month is if you're restricted to about 3hrs of content per day.

Honestly? 100GB doesn't come close. Anything short of unlimited data doesn't cut it.

There's also the issue of rights to certain contents which must attract subscriptions for hassle free streaming.

The price increase is as a result of the free fall of the naira.

Dstv pays hundreds of millions of dollars for the exclusive broadcast rights in sub-Saharan Africa for the Champions League, EPL, La Liga, Europa, Tennis Grandslams, Athletics, Football World Cup, Cricket World Cup, Rugby World Cup, WWE wrestling etc etc.

Lowering price is not an option for them or they will have to shut down their business.

Excuses, excuses.

What's the reason behind previous increment even before naira free fall? Or you think they started this shenanigans in 2023? Why is their service in Nigeria even tied to the price of dollar?

They enjoy monopoly cos there isn't any real competition.

Why increase the price across board instead for those that actually pay to watch premium sport?

Are they also paying big money for those crappy free stations they give on their basic subscription? They are paying billions for their African magic or channels and nta?

Illiteracy is when you know little or nothing about a particular subject

All the information you need as a man to keep you healthy and entertained is on YouTube , Spotify or a Google search away.

As for matches, you can Livestream it or go to a nearby bar parlour and chill with the guys.

Na man wey get excess time fit stay dey watch plenty football sef.

Are you aware there are people who are knowledgeable about all what you said, but simply chose DSTV. Everybody with his choice which should be respected.

The only time I use my data is when I get home from work, we got free WiFi where I work......I can download whatever I like before I get home. Your rant was unnecessary.
Sorry if I sounded harsh.
You were giving the impression that it's cheaper watching movies online than with DStv which I debunked with comparative cost analysis.
You even didn't mention your free WiFi in your original post.
Yes,with competition,DStv may have been cheaper, but comparing it to online viewing of programmes is being naive in my view.

It's total waste of money subscribing GOTV/DSTV, most especially GOTV. Dem nor dey show better thing. Mumu NEPA won't even allow you enjoy it if you manage to subscribe.... I would rather use my FTA decoder where I enjoy MBC channels.

If I wanna watch a particular movie what I do is download it online, it's better than wasting money.
data price is increased to go check MTN update
Re: DSTV Hikes Subscription Fees For Second Time In 2023 by Bossman(m): 11:30pm On Nov 03, 2023
There are certainly other options such as IPTV. However, the price of data in Nigeria does not make this a viable option for most. There is lack of unlimited data options in Nigeria. Something that is the norm in most other places. Also, most still access the internet via the data on their phones. Unlike other countries that fiber, cable and wireless internet connections and all providing unlimited data. So streaming services have really picked up steam.

Yes, a lot are moving to streaming services/TV on demand. In my case I use YoutubeTV.
Dittodat:

Even in the US, a lot are cutting cable because the bills keeps going up. I still remember when cable used to be 10 dollars. Now they will draw you in with 49.99 deal then shit will jump to 99.99 dollars in a 2 year contract.
I cut off the danm cable, everything is on the internet.

Yea, and you conveniently ignored the massive wastage and the part where I said that there has to be a clear-cut plan. So far, there's none.

I left that part, cos it's naivety to think one man decides all the finances.

No clear-cut plan? You must be wiser than the NLC who shelved their intended shutdowns due to some action plan or the other.

I think you see what you wish to see.

One man doesn't decide? Pray tell, does it take a village when governors decline their salaries? Does it take a village when governors decide to ride in Innoson rather than Toyota?

And yes, clear cut plan. There's none. That's why the strikes still persist.
