I Stan with you , even the name Oba is “Yoruba”
If Benin truly found Lagos you’ll still see traces of Benin legacies in Lagos, but that’s not the case . Just as British foot print will always be on it’s colonies . Even in America you’ll still see British foot print some of their Towns and street are British names .
Everybody wants to trend but it’s better to use your basic Analogy to dissect.
Actually, there's benin footprint in Lagos it's just that people are blinded tribally to see it.
The name eko itself is a benin word, almost all the locations on the island today are derived from benin word including the oba palace (iga idungaran) . If you also look at the royal isignia of Lagos you will notice the cross swords which are renowned as the sign of the benin empire.

You and several others on this forum are just swinging in all directions, hoping something, just something will stick. Well, it's NOT working.
The Erelu delivered a sucker punch and you incorrigibles are reeling .

Erelu delivered nothing

Oba Of Lagos is Ijesha
the Land on Which his Palace Sits belongs to the Awori Yoruba' Aromire family

Ologun Kutere the son of Princess Erelu Kuti' was Ijesha and all Lagos Obas descended from him
descended from him

Lagos is Yorubaland

Everyone knows that Isale Eko was a Slave Trading Post
Why do you think the British attacked it?

On top of that Oba Of Lagos is actually a Baale who was elevated to an Oba Post

Olofin of Isheri is the highest Awori Oba with a Proper Ife Crown which all other Yoruba Obas acknowledge and Respect because they are real Obas and not Business ones

Even the Oloto of Otto who owns and ruled Iddo Island has a Proper Ife Crown

Oba of Lagos was still called Eleko till around 1950s

Lol u are avoiding the truth and it is obvious.

Let us tell you the Pre Oduduwa History of Lagos when Benin was not on anyone's Radar Screen

moba Yorubas were settled in moba Lagos well before the 9th Century before Oduduwa whose Son Oranmiyan established the Benin Throne and kingdom was Born
They are currently classified with the Awori people but we're in Lagos many Centuries earlier

In the 10th Century when the first Owa Obokun of Ijesha fetched from the Lagos Sea Water to cure Oduduwa's blindness there were already moba Yorubas. In Lagos and he spent 2 months with them

The idol Worshippers Olokun diety was actually a moba King called Seniade that ruled from an Island off the coast of Lagos that has now been Submerged by the Sea.

Some of the moba migrated to Ijebuland and the moba built the UNESCO world heritage 9th Century Eredo Wall near Ijebu and their kingdom included many Islands off the Coast of Lagos

They have now been included with the Awori people but we're actually the Original Inhabitants of Lagos and were in Lagos Centuries before Oduduwa was Born

The Oore of Otun Ekiti migrated from moba in Lagos and is descended from the moba Kings including Seniade

moba is near Victoria Island and their crown predates Oduduwa's own

Yorubas forefathers might not have been great at Technology but God Almighty definitely gave them Prodigious History Art and Music
All Glory be to God Almighty

It seems a lot of people knows the truth

There are clear elements of misinformation and misunderstanding in Erelu Abiola Dosunmu's statements:

1. That a territory pays tribute to you does not expressly mean you own the territory. In several places in Africa, you pay tribute at times to avoid wars, raiding and invasion. Villages paying tributes to Boko Haram and Bandits to farm and harvest produce are clearly not owned by the tribute collectors.

In olden days Africa, most times it is like a jungle and the stronger person can compel you to pay tribute to avoid problems from him. It doesn't mean he owns you and most times doesn't even bother to establish any administrative post in your village or territory. You simply carry the tributes to him at designated times. That is the case between Benin and Lagos. There was no record of a conquest and Benin people did not "found" Lagos by any stretch of imagination.

2. All Oba of Lagos trace their lineage to Ashipa who was a War Captain of the Oba of Benin. The first Oba of Lagos, Oba Ado was the son of Ashipa. Ashipa has been established to have been a local Awori who existed around 1570 to 1630. It is therefore an undisputed fact that the Benin met the Awori in Lagos and had some relationship with them to warrant an Awori (Ashipa) being a War Captain of the Oba of Benin.

3. It is without doubt that the Benin Kingdom itself (1180–1897), which came after the Igodomido era, was headed by an Oba that came from Ile Ife and was a Yoruba. All Oba of Benin since that are seen as his descendants and consequently Yoruba by origin. It is perhaps this history and relationship that allowed the Oba of Benin to have Ashipa, an Awori (a Yoruba sub-group that migrated from Ile Ife) as a War Captain and which allowed the Oba of Benin to grant Ashipa the trust and permission to establish a Royal lineage in Eko (Lagos).

4. For those speaking about conquest, how do you conquer a people with one of their sons as your War Captain and also permit him to establish a Royal lineage in the territory and be confident their will be no revolt? The Oba of Benin clearly saw Ashipa as being of same root stock (Yoruba) to even trust and elevate him as War Captain in the first instance and same extended to allowing him to "rule" over his Awori clan who are also ethnically Yoruba. It was also that relationship that allowed Obas of Benin to give daughters in marriage to the Obas of Eko (Lagos). If you conquer a people and establish a dynasty over them in Africa, your first choice is to follow a paternal rather than maternal lineage. It is also noteworthy that there is no record of a single blood being shed in the claimed "conquest" of Lagos by the Benin Kingdom in a War Party led by a son of the Aworis who were purportedly being conquered.

5. Prince Ado who became first Oba of Eko (Lagos) was actually a son of Ashipa born of a Benin woman (possibly a daughter or relative of Oba of Benin) and not a SON of Oba of Benin.

6. It is not a coincidence that all the Obas in Lagos from Iduganran (base of Oba of Eko and descendants of Ashipa) to Epe, Iba, Ikorodu, etc are all Awori people.

There is no doubt that Lagos was founded and settled by the Awori people and no amount of revisionist history has been able to overcome that.

AreaFada2:

Benin had coastal territories. In 1480 AD, Oba Olua of Benin sent his son Prince Iginuwa to become Ogiamie in what is now Ewere/Warri.

That new Dukedom was a way to extend Benin hegemony. Benin had access to Ohimiwinhin (River Niger), Benin River, etc. The entire Bight of Benin in fact by the reign of Oba Orhogbua (1550-1558). Portuguese accompanied (documented) Oba Orhogbua to Lagos, Ijebu Waterside, etc, He was a sailor trained in Portugal as a Prince. Benin was first officially called a City in 1553 by the Europeans during his reign. Because it compared admirably with the few places with "City Status" in the world at that time.

Benin City and capital of Benin Empire had no immediate Port but Ughoton/Gwatto Port was only tens of kilometres away. Remember Europeans used to dock at Gwatto Port and walk to Benin City.

Erelu is descended from Eleko Dosunmu, who Oba of Benin opposed in favour of deposed Eleko Kosoko. She could have denied Benin initial ownership of Eko/Lagos but still decided to stick with the truth. Simly because it is the truth.

The truth is the Yoruba >>>>>>Benin..
Yorubas expanded all the way from Ife to all over west Africa. Benin instead shrunk and never expanded. Benin language is only spoken in Benin, they worship Yoruba gods too. Their royal line was started by a Yoruba man. They met Aworis all over Lagos. The tiny region they occupied for a while in Lagos is an extremely tiny faction that they also could not hold for long. Ashipa is a Yoruba man.

No amount of revisionist will alter the truth.

We are talking about things that happened 100's of years ago. Nobody is saying that the Binis own Lagos today. Think of it like this, the British founded many nations as part of the British Empire, does that mean Britain owns those places today? Did Britain not found Nigeria? Were not already people living in this land mass called Nigeira? Yet the British took charge and made all the different kingdoms and Emmirates pay homage to them and created a New country 'Nigeria'. Today how many British people own houses in Lagos?

It's simple after the oba made the statement on how lagos belongs to Benin in the visitation he could have just said we all are yorubas and from oduduwa if he indeed by into such ideology

Read this when you can

The history of oromiyan in Benin was formed and forged in the old western region to intergret the Benins and the oba as yorubas even to the extent of giving him the second position and displacing the alafin who was originally the second after the ooni of Ife although tho the oba of Benin accepted this offer at first but things didn't go as planned the other yoruba monarchs and together with the alafin of oyo was not happy with this new arrangement that the oba of Benin who is second after the ooni of Ife can't even speak yoruba language and so many other complains ensued from there, again the oba of Benin had a fall out with awolowo and other benin political aspirants and as a result pulling out of western region became thinkable and as soon as Midwestern region was created the oba of benin refuted the false history and the yorubas kings fired back and soon after the oba of Benin forged a counter history of ekaladeran and since then the history that started on falsehood became held seriously by many people who are unaware

Oduduwa was the first Oba of the 2nd dynasty of Ife Kings

grin

If Ooni of Ife turns up in benin and Claims the Throne and Kingdom of benin he too is also right

Ok, Let us look at the praise names of oba of benin

One of it is
Abieyuwa N'Ovbi Odua N'uhe
The son of the wealthy Odua of Uhe(Ife).
(Odua of Ife is the same as oduduwa of Ife)

Another of oba of benin's praise names is

Ovbi' Adimila
The son of Adimila
oduduwa was also known as Olofin Adimula
Which was his Title

Notice there is no mention at all of any Ekhalerderhan of Igodomigodo or izoduwa a whole Crown Prince of Benin that got lost and the renowned Accomplished Benin Palace Praise singers are not at all interested in his case
It can only be a lie

They did not mention and neither are they looking for the lost Ekhalerderhan .

izoduwa too is not happening anywhere in oba of benin's praise names but they called Oduduwa , the great Odua of Ife his Father

So with their own mouths they themselves have already given the evidence that fully demolished and destroyed their case which had no legs to stand on in the first place and have confirmed with your own Mouth that the oba of benin was indeed oduduwa's Son
There is nothing left to drag because it is settled
