It is well understandable that they might have been a care avoidance of our territory by the benin. Even hour history does not have anything to do with the oyo empire.
So if the benin expansionist move futher west and avoided Ijebu territory despite encroaching ondo. Its most likely that they find more open space in the island.
Awujale would never take it likely if some kingdom start troubling the ijebu waterway.
From your map you can see how big the original ijebu territory was, all through the lagoon to ikorodu down to sagamu. Its well understood why the benin chose Lagos island. To avoid ijebu trouble.
Ondo was under Benin leadership. The Deji of AKURE paid homage to the Bini kingdom then

Which Awori ?

Awori that Owns Lagos and the Land on Which the Obas Palace Sits

Isale Eko on Lagos Island is not 2% of Awori kingdom

It was Awori that gave Benin a Trading Post on part of Lagos Island

And at the time it Happened the Awori people were under the Protection of Oyo during the Time of Basorun Yamba of Oyo who warned them that if the tried Nonsense on Lagos Island He and the Awori wouldn't hesitate to kick them Out

Oba Of Lagos was a Babaloja of the Lagos Slave Market
The taxes he collect were not Tribute but taxes to trade in the Slave Market
Does collection of the Motor Park taxes make one a vassal to the Car park Agberos?

u have come with ur own narrative. Lol

u gave sm1 trading post and they force u to pay them taxes? how? grin

This is very inaccurate information. infact where did u get ur own from cos I've theard different stories but urs doesn't even add up at all.

I personally see Binis and Yorubas as one and same people.

The current generation likes to argue and fight over everything and the elders are not intervening to educate and guide.

There was a lot of interaction and connection between Binis and Yorubas before the advent of the Europeans and this is not limited to Lagos alone.

Ancient Lagos is not the entire Lagos State. The modern Lagos is an amalgam of towns with their own different histories and traditional institutions.
Also, the particular part of Lagos with "Bini History" is very well known. Ask the elders.

There should be no controversy

Bini people already said they ain't Yoruba, Yorubas' too don't want to have anything to do with them.
Oyo Ile is situated in Katunga, modern day Niger state, go to Makera, and Jebba in Niger state, the people speak Yoruba fluently yet Yorubas' don't drag them They identify themselves with Yoruba up to Benin republic, Togo, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Gambia, up South America.
Which stupid story are they telling up and down?, Bini colonize Lagos Island doesn't mean they didn't meet people there when they arrived.
My own mother is also an indigine , a princess from Otto ruling house, she said their fathers came from Ife, the Obas Olotto, Eleko, Ojora all normally tie white wrapper.
Oba of Benin no dey tie white wrapper o, na red him dey tie
Only those connected to Ife are tieing white wrapper, make Binin people go look elsewhere for their lost relatives, Lagos and Bini are not related.

Everyone knows that Isale Eko was a Slave Trading Post
Why do you think the British attacked it?

On top of that Oba Of Lagos is actually a Baale who was elevated to an Oba Post

Olofin of Isheri is the highest Awori Oba with a Proper Ife Crown which all other Yoruba Obas acknowledge and Respect because they are real Obas and not Business ones

Even the Oloto of Otto who owns and ruled Iddo Island has a Proper Ife Crown

Oba of Lagos was still called Eleko till around 1950s

IVORY2009:
Lagos, Nigeria, has a rich and complex history, with multiple groups inhabiting the area over the centuries. The earliest known inhabitants of Lagos were the Awori people, who are a subgroup of the Yoruba people. The Awori settled in the area in the 15th century and established a kingdom called Eko.

In the 16th century, the Benin Empire conquered Eko and established their own rule over the city. The Benin influence was significant, and many aspects of Lagos culture, such as language and art, still reflect Benin heritage.

In the 17th century, the Portuguese arrived in Lagos and established a trading post. The Portuguese presence had a profound impact on Lagos, introducing new goods and ideas to the city.

In the 19th century, the British took control of Lagos. The British ruled Lagos for over a century, and their influence is still evident in the city's architecture and infrastructure.

Today, Lagos is a multicultural city with a population of over 20 million people. The city is home to people from all over Nigeria, as well as from other parts of Africa and the world.

So, who are the original owners of Lagos Nigeria? The answer is not simple, as the city has been home to many different groups of people over the centuries. However, the Awori people are the earliest known inhabitants of Lagos, and their influence is still felt in the city today.

Lagos is a Cosmopolitan City in Yorubaland !!!!

Don't rewrite our History for us

Lagos is Yorubaland not no man's land.
The answer is very simple Yorubas own Lagos

lord lugard and the British founded and built enugu and Umuahia and yet you claim it is Igboland

Lagos is Yorubaland 100%

Today Lagos is still Yorubaland and will remain so until Jesus Christ comes to take his Saints home

That Lagos is Yorubaland is beyond Contention

Document from sir alfred moloney
British Colonial Governor of Lagos
Confirming Lagos is Yorubaland in 1890

All these stories are trash. Nobody has denied Aworis were from Ife but the question is, when the Benin migrant came, were the natives not there?. I ask again, How did Yorubas chase benins away from Lagos?, why is Yoruba language and culture predominant in Lagos?, why are the Yoruba the land owners in Lagos?, why are they the ones selling land in Lagos?, How many benin have a family house in Lagos?. These are my questions i want benin people to answer, otherwise, everything na empty noise.
i am looking for the historical account of how Yoruba chased Benin out of Lagos, pls, anyone with the document shotld send me a link.
Use your brain. The forefatherz of Yoruba in Lagos today are Benin. How is that difficult to understand?is Tinubu not claiming Lagos? When you live in a place for 2000 years, you are now from that place.

I thought Erelu ( which is a title of Yorubas by the way) said Bini is landlocked.

So how come Bini flew so many kingdom to find a tiny kingdom in a far away place?

Abi you think people travel by buses then ?
Benin had coastal territories. In 1480 AD, Oba Olua of Benin sent his son Prince Iginuwa to become Ogiame in what is now Ewere/Warri.

That new Dukedom was a way to extend Benin hegemony. Benin had access to Ohimwinhin (River Niger), Benin River, etc. The entire Bight of Benin in fact by the reign of Oba Orhogbua (1550-1578). Some Portuguese accompanied (documented) Oba Orhogbua to Lagos, Ijebu Waterside, etc, He was a sailor trained in Portugal as a Prince. Benin was first officially called a City in 1553 by the Europeans during his reign. Because it compared admirably with the few places with "City Status" in the world at that time.

Benin City and capital of Benin Empire had no immediate Port but Ughoton/Gwatto Port was only tens of kilometres away. Remember Europeans used to dock at Gwatto Port and walk to Benin City.

Erelu is descended from Eleko Dosunmu, who Oba of Benin opposed in favour of deposed Eleko Kosoko. She could have denied Benin initial ownership of Eko/Lagos but still decided to stick with the truth. Simply because it is the truth.

Some people now claim that the Portuguese were using Benin to raid slaves up to Lagos area. Total lie. Benin had already began imperial expansion by about 1440 AD under Oba Ewuare I, decades before any Europeans set foot in these parts by about 1472. Though proper seafaring expanded under Oba Orhogbua who saw first-hand in Portugal how seafaring allowed Portugal to grow abroad.
The Portuguese were able to work well with Benin for two main reasons: It was the pre-imminent empire in the area and its kings accepted Christianity first and was able to give Benin guns. European guns were only given to Christian partners as a matter of their policy back then.
