Customer access to loans or other financial products based on their stock holding as collateral

Thank you @debeey and @dapix

I would try to compare United Capital and Meristem. I actually have a Meristem account which I emptied and abandon a few years ago when their customer service went really bad, can't say how they are now

Why do people take loans to buy shares?

Just asking experts in the house.

What are the advantages and disadvantages for those who do so?

It means the company is undergoing internal restructuring.......which they must have notified NGX about.

Also: Check out the 11 compliance indicators and what each stands for:

Don't join them in doing that please, it is not good for your mental health, always trade with the money you can afford to lose. Some that traded with loan during 2008 meltdown found themselves in grave, some resulted to stroke.

People need to abstain from greed while investing. It better to sell your existing stock to buy another rather than taking loan from finance houses.

Depends on your risk appetite, age and approach to investing. Moreover your collateral is the same stock you want to sell to buy another.
I don't do it tho as I am not that risk averse

So if you expecting a total dividend of N5 million in 2024 and you discovered an irresistible investment opportunity after carrying out enough research and due diligence, you can't borrow against your investment to take a loan of N10 million in order to harness the opportunity.

I don't recommend taking a loan to buy shares based on the value of your portfolio but based on the expected dividend of the portfolio, at a maximum of 3 times the value of the expected dividend.

Mind you, if the loan of N10 million was invested on a dividend paying stock at a good dividend yield, the expected dividend from the portfolio will increase from N5 million to about N6 million for 2024

what's pushing transcorp hotels. Though a solid company but the fundamentals are not there for the current price.

Earning per share not up to 50k, dividend yield is less than 0.3%.
there may be other metrics driving the price up but me i am not understanding ooo
