JAPA if you really desire to.... Stay back too if you don't see any need to JAPA...

Everyone is free to do whatever they wish!!

I have seen those who Jappa with no plans or skills and end up living terrible life over there

There are also people who stays back and makes good income monthly (like 700k to #1m) in this same Nigeria.

Finally, do whatever suits your desire

Or
Ososami in Ibadan.

Devil and his hosts haven't finished their mission by creating Japa syndrome to destroys lives, break homes, destroyed finances, set people who have survived hustling back to square one, frustration and failure untill the mission completed by the Lucifer give them 100 reason not to Japa they won't listen.

A property worth over N100m was sold to a friend for N30m just a months ago even my friend was telling the family this house is worth than this pls don't sell this property the wife refused to yield and the house was gone and they are in Canada since then with no place to sleep with 2 kids is that not a curse?

Pls don't advise them let them Japa dem eyes go clear when they reach their Japa destination, dem no dey telli pesin....in Timaya voice.

I will never stop anyone not to Japa infact sell your life to Japa good for you.
lol is that a true story and did any of them have any special skills before they japa ?
Re: 11 Reasons Why You Should Not Japa From Nigeria by Originalsly: 12:27pm On Dec 25, 2023
I respect your view ... agree with some ... disagree with some and on the fence with the rest. In these times I would not support one to japa to live illegally in a "better country" .... especially if he doesn't have a skill that's in demand. I support the point that the problem is the FG ... and the youths should come together to vote in a government that will improve conditions. I agree with culture ... our culture of community but when we go abroad it's each on his own. And it is true that people live on their own ... die.. and no one knows until the stench sounds the alarm. Four of my customers and one co worker died this way... all in apartment buildings where neighbour's are on the other side of the wall ... above and below. One the body decomposed and the tenant below complained to the super ( person who maintains the building) that bugs were in her light shade. Wasn't bugs... was maggots from the decomposing body in the apartment above. Another one complained of paint from the apartment above leaked down and stained her door. It was blood... tenant OD"d ... fell busted his head ... been dead. She moved out immediately. Third went home from work a Saturday... closed the door.. two steps in ... dropped dead from heart attack ... doesn't show up nor call on Monday ... verrry unlike her ... same Tuesday ... supervisor called the Police to do a wellness check... dead. Asthma attack next one... dead and began to smell. These are all people I know.... in my work area only .. just to show how common it is. I also agree with raising kids ... especially with the gay agenda now in schools and the laws passed to support it. It may sound ridiculous... but it is the reality.
I disagree with the insecurity. We need to put things in perspective .... every day I can hear on the news about shootings in NYC ... a man was shot in the Bronx ... two were shot in Brooklyn ... one was stabbed in Manhattan. These were incidents in which the Police responded and they respond to almost everything. On hearing this one believes the city is unsafe. What if Police respond the same in Lagos ... and the incidents are aired? I guess we will have a different view. As someone who live in "high crime area" and work in another high crime area ... one of the last thing on people's mind is being robbed or shot.... not saying there is no robbery or rape or burglary. Insecurity is not a problem compared to Nigeria. Some places in the US are known war zones...we just avoid them.

However ... I would advise anyone to get a visa ... go to visit ... go with a business mind as well to return with stuff to sell to cover your expenses ...and you will be in a better position to make a decision to go or to stay.

Even here in Nigeria, you are still not making it so you dey find those wey go join you in your non sense.

As long as you enter there legally and you have skills i.e something to offer, it won't take you time to fit in and get employed unlike here.
Do you know how many Nigerian graduates with skills roaming the streets unemployed?
Do you know the impact of the economy on those that managed to start their own businesses/startup?

Before you open your mouth waah, I hope you know Nigeria's unemployment rate?

First of all, go find food chop make you no for get energy reason well, I'm sure you're dealing with hunger like this but na people's personal travel/migration decision be your problem.

6.) No Racism:

Truth remains that after you Japa, you and your family will at one point experience both subtle and harsh discrimination based on your skin color or accent and you will never integrate into the Western society not even in a million years. Black Americans that japaed 400yrs ahead of you are yet to be fully integrated and accepted, I don't know who is motivating you that you will be accepted fully or that your own case will be different.

Isn't there tribalism in Nigeria?
So what's the difference?

What's your definition of make it...?

Gone are those days when people travel abroad and in no time, they will start sending money and building houses...

Living in a society where you have all the basic amenities, but about 75% of your money go for bills...when comparing, compare the 25% with what people earn in Nigeria...in business, it is called take home...

Someone who earns 2000 dollars every month abroad and pays bills of 75% is equal to someone who earns N500, 000 in Nigeria... because if that person removes the 75%, he will be left with $500 as take home.

Before you argue with me, rent in abroad is paid on monthly basis and it can be between $750 to $2000 for most of our Japa brethren

Good day, i want to ask you a question, how many people are earning 500k here as you opined?

I have a relative who pays 800 Pounds on monthly basis as rent after other bills but the same person also send 1.5/1.7 million Naira every month for his building project here.

You know that there holiday today and tomorrow in the UK but someone told me yesterday that she will make x5 of her earning in 2 days just because she will work today and tomorrow.

If anyone has any genuine opportunity, let the person travel ok; most of our politicians have houses there and are training their children there.

Let me burst your brain, a master degree holder here is not equal to a high school leaver in the UK. Some of us here have friends/relatives over there and we know what is on the ground.

Finally, is there any footballer playing here that is as rich as a LGA chairman? But footballers overthere are richer than politicians. Please don't blame the masses for brain drain in Nigeria, Government officials should be blame, thank you.

1.) It's More Easier To Be A Dollar Millionaire/Billionaire In Nigeria:

You forgot to add that those making it into millionaire and billionaire list are those with chains of businesses across board and not salary earners or petty business owners. Same way many of their millionaires and billionaires have no traceable business outside their domain. Let me be precise, they don't have business in Africa, except in America, Europe and Asia. So the issue of millionaire or billionaire is not a function of location but a function of hardwork and thinking out of the box. The Dangote's name that featured in forbe didn't feature there because he has only business in Nigeria but his chains of businesses across board.

2.) African Communal Living:

That was olden days and not now that very many members of a family or community are finding it hard to eat and to meet the daily needs. Yes, olden days, members of the family or community rally round their people in need but today they go into hiding because the load on them is unbearable and they would not want to heap more on themselves because of another person's issue. I have catalogue of examples to buttress this and this is largely due to economy reality.

3.) There Is More Insecurity Abroad:
Is there any place there is no insecurity. Just the same way there is insecurity in the far north of Nigeria that sleeping with two eyes closed is impossible for the inhabitants of these places. There is also financial insecurity that has dealt upper blow on over 60% of the citizenry in Nigeria.
As such, in the months to come there is probability that the insecurity would be more if the economy doesn't changed. Because the reality on ground is a time bomb.

4.) Easy Access To Natural Foods:

You're right here.

5.) Favourable Weather Condition Throughout The Year:

You're also correct here.

6.) No Racism:
The episode of racism in Nigeria is even more higher than any racist act anywhere in the world as at today. We are now experiencing what almost consumed Rwanda. We now see tribe racist again tribe in the same country, Nigeria. You see religion racist against religion in the same country, Nigeria. Every tribes are suspicious of others. Yoruba doesn't love Igbo. Igbo doesn't love Yoruba. Yoruba doesn't love Hausa. Hausa doesn't love Itsekiri. Tribal fight is now prevalent everywhere and in every forums you entered. What can be called racism if not all these.
The only black country that racist themselves because of the tribe and religion they belong.

7.) Nigeria Better On Raising Cultured Kids:

That was olden days. Children of nowadays are the must uncultured set I have ever seen. No respect. No reverence. No cultural value any more. Abi no be same country you see youths throwing insults at their elders with contrary political ideology. When you see OBJ, Pa. Adebanjo, Soyinka, Clark, Jonathan, Tinubu, Buhari, Bode George and many you can ask them.

8.) Nigeria Better On Entertainment And Fun Activities:

That is to those that are entertainment freak. There are many that don't give a fork about side attractions but just to make money.

9.) No Weird Or Crazy New Culture:
Remember that their new culture does not negatively target people with contrary opinion but to give full right to those want to practice whatever they like. Nobody would arrest or molest you because you refused to be gay or lesbian. Their law is not like shari'a law that also target non-muslims. The negative impact of new cultures is more in Nigeria than abroad, no need hiding behind one finger.

10.) Cost Of Living Is Cheaper:
The idea peddling around about the cost of living higher in abroad but cheaper in Nigeria is something I don't always buy. Until we sit down and ask ourselves the comparative advantage derived in each places and what is the minimum wage in comparison to cost of living in both.
There are hundreds of Nigerians that their take home cannot even buy a bag of rice, lest they buy any other items. Some rentage now, that is a self contain is almost #300,000 to #500,000, depending on places. Tell me how would someone earning #30,000 cope?
The cost of goods and services are skyrocketing everyday in Nigeria. If you buy good for #10 today after three days, the price would have gone to #20 and non stop as the days goes by.
The cost of living was fairer before but not now in Nigeria because of bad policies of our government. In abroad today you can do two jobs in a day that will fetch you good dollars but that can it be said in Nigeria. Your one job of less than #30,000 take home would wary you down that would not even afford you time for your immediate family. This idea of cost of living is higher in abroad and lower in Nigeria should not be said in isolation. All variables must be considered. Their cost of living is higher but they still send millions home to build houses, give gifts to family members and also meet other family and extended family needs, whereas Nigerians find it difficult to send to their wards abroad for ordinary schooling. I know one of my sister's schooling abroad but still have time to do menial job to support her schooling. How many such opportunities available for students in Nigeria, when students will do lecture till 7p.m every day. Please save me this idea of high cost of living in abroad.

11.) No Rat Race Or Extreme Taxation In Nigeria:
But with their extreme taxing they still see money to send home while we that are not too taxed can't even feed our immediate family members well more of giving to people around us. I will be glad to live where I would be heavily taxed but still have what to throw around to help people around me.

Please whoever want to Japa kindly do so because all the points the OP raised are belated.

Globally, anyone who pays almost half of his/her income on rent is a stoopid person. In Nigeria, people pay bills too, so I don't get the "you will pay bills" aspect.

On points 10 and 11, it's relative to your income. If you earn.poor income in Nigeria, which unfortunately most do, then this won't make sense. But if you are one of the lucky few who works in oil industry, banking at Mgr and above, in the big 4 audit firms etc then this is relatable. If you earn N1mln a month net, you'll likely have more disposable income and saving than someone who earns $4k net.

I have lived in US and Nigeria and cost of food is cheaper in Nigeria. In US, asides junk and processed microwaveable ready food, proper food is not really cheap.

This is a rebuttal of this thread: https://www.nairaland.com/7936687/11-reasons-why-must-japa#:~:text=11.,life%20expectancy%20is%20very%20high.

DISCLAIMER:
There is a notion that once you present an anti-japa argument, you're automatically an agent working for the govt. I want to state here that I have never supported this Apc govt since their coming to power in 2015. My contrary opinion on japa stems from my detest of youths mass-migration for economic reasons. I see it as an act of cowardice and stupidity.

This is not just for Nigerians japaing alone. I'm also disgusted whenever I see pictures of thousands of able bodied Latino youths who are at the US-Mexico border begging to be allowed entry into the US. These youths coming to together to mass-migrate can also link-up to take back their country via any possible means. Because if their home countries were better, they won't be moving out enmass. One of the reasons why the citizens of the country you're japaing to often discriminate against you is because you have proven to be a weakling seeking an easy excape or an inferior who are incapable of fixing their problems.
The only mass-migration i support is if it's due to serious natural disaster or large scale political persecution like that of Israel-Palestinian conflict. Below are the 11 reasons why you shouldn't Japa from Nigeria.

1.) It's More Easier To Be A Dollar Millionaire/Billionaire In Nigeria:

There are millions of Nigerians in the diaspora who are supposedly living in the first world economy and are working in various fields of human endeavor. But it may interest you to know that non have ever made it into Forbes billionaires list. But those at home keep making the list back to back.
This is important to point out because wealth building is a crucial topic to every real man and majority of Nigerian men moving are doing so mainly due to financial reasons.
Truth is, Nigeria is the largest market in Africa and a developing economy. There are plenty of wealth to be created in a "developing economy" than in a "develop economy", that's why as you are trooping out, Chinese, Lebanese and Indians are trooping in. Nigerians are raising $20k-30k in this economy to Japa while average Americans can't boast of $10k in their bank accounts, they live check to check.

2.) African Communal Living:

Nigeria offers the African social support system that you won't find in the Western countries. You fit run into financial emergency, your family will gather to raise funds for you, if you child misbehaves outside elders go assist you to discipline the child before you return home, if your house is on fire the whole neighborhood will join hands in puting out the fire, if you're cooking late night and ran out of maggi, if you knock on your neighbor door, him go deliver you, if your co-tenant never see you for 2 to 3 days, he go knock for your door to check up on you. All these don't happen in your Japa destination. In the West, you fit dey sick and later kpai inside your room and stay there for over a month nobody go know until your body begins to the smell.

3.) There Is More Insecurity Abroad:

You are 7times more likely to be shot in any city in America than in Lagos. Almost every Western country has violent "Far-Right Groups" who are frustrated and bitter with their Govts for allowing influx of migrants to erode their society and culture. These groups are like a time bomb waiting to go off because they can easily turn violent by attacking migrants especially black people. The big truth is, insecurity especially in southern Nigeria is over-reported and amplified on social media. There are violent crimes in every country. The crime news you read on social media especially in South of the country is commiserate with our population. No one can pull out any data anywhere to show that crime rate in the South has reached an epidemic proportions as believed on social media. In fact if you ban social media for 1year in Nigeria and conduct an opinion poll on insecurity. You will be surprised that Nigerians will tell you that insecurity has reduced. Just recently, a govt minister was robbed on the highway in South Africa. If that were to happens in Nigeria, Japa will be trending in Nigeria for more than a week. Most Nigerians haven't seen a bokoharam militant before but bokoharam will attack a village in Borno State close to the border with Chad, someone living in Lekki will read the news online and tweet that he wants to Japa due to insecurity.

4.) Easy Access To Natural Foods:

Nigeria has abundant healthy cheap natural foods and it's even taken for granted here. The people in the abroad you wants to go are jealous of your menu. Unhealthy and disease-causing canned and processed foods are what you will end up to when you finally japa because you will pay through your nose to place your hands on any organic food there.

5.) Favourable Weather Condition Throughout The Year:

Nigeria has one of the best climate conditions you can find. We have no extreme weather here. No severe temperature, Tornado or Harricane. Weather conditions in your Japa destination can cause sudden emergency situations. It can sometimes cause a whole city to be evacuated.

7.) Nigeria Better On Raising Cultured Kids:

If as a Nigerian, you are cautious of how your kids will be raised, you better stay back home, because in the West, your kids doesn't belong to you. They belongs to the government and authorities there are free to teach and instill any idealogy they deem necessary. So don't be shocked if your 7yrs old son are taught how to switch gender or pronoun at school and given free lgtv literature with erotic images.

8.) Nigeria Better On Entertainment And Fun Activities:

You can fall into depression abroad due to loneliness and stress from doing multiple jobs but not in Nigeria. With little money in Nigeria, you can go partying and balling till dawn day in day out. You fit die onto enjoyment.

9.) No Weird Or Crazy New Culture:

Abroad will humble a deeply religious person who is against homosexuality to work as a caregiver for gay couples. You will be forced to embrace trans and gay people, feminism and made to reject polygamy. I doubt if men have rights in the West. You risk losing everything to a woman, this don't only apply to your wife. Even your long-term girlfriend who you are cohabiting with, can be given a share of assets after a breakup by the court. If a random woman accuses you of rape, the system will already treat you as a convict. I recently observed that premier league captain band is now decorated with pride colors (lgtv flag) to support the community. And you know what awaits any player that openly criticizes it or refuses to wear the band. He risk getting cancelled and he should kiss his footballing career a goodbye. They will use his punishment as deterrent to others. All these new crazy woke policies and behaviors are not practiced in Nigeria.

10.) Cost Of Living Is Cheaper:

Thousands of Americans and EU citizens are retiring like kings in South East Asia and South America ie Thailand, Indonesia, Mexico, Chile etc. You can look it up. Not that they don't love their home countries but because they are excaping the high cost of living in the West. Accommodation, transportation, education, local foods etc are still cheaper in Nigeria. The amount you will paid on a match-box apartment in London or New York can fetch you a year rent of 2bedrooms flat in a good location in any major Nigerian city.

11.) No Rat Race Or Extreme Taxation In Nigeria:

You will labour abroad for a month and the rigged system will use "high taxation, high cost of living and the scam credit system" to return everything back to the system in order for you to repeat the circle again. In a bid not to go homeless on the cold streets, and also to put food on your table, you have no other option than to keep repeating the circle until the time you will finish your term of slavery due to old age, then your children will start where you stopped and the circle continues.
Truth is, the entire world is controlled by the globalists in the West, the further away you're from the West and it's entanglements the freer you will become. If the 1% elite in the West removes the rigging in the system you will be able to secure enough bags and retire early. But they stands to lose if people starts excaping the system early, they need your manpower for longer period of time to maintain their industries and establishments. This explains why the more income you earn there, the more rediculous taxes you pays because the system is continously gauging you and the tax system (one of it's tools of control) is strictly and heavily guided, defaulters risks jail term. The system was programmed in a way that you will never get enough in order not for you to start thinking of excaping the slave camp early until you finish your term of slavery.
This is one of reasons why rich and exposed Nigerians don't fancy living abroad. Even most African ex-footballers returns home immediately after the end of their career in Europe. An average Nigerian coming from lack, hunger and extreme poverty and who is daydreaming of Japa won't be able to see this anomaly. Living in Nigeria will provide you the opportunity to excape Matrix.

I wish I can give you 1,000 likes at once - the bold parts, i have told them more than 100 times here BUT they will soon insult the living day light s out of you --- our people say "A DOG THAT IS DETERMINED TO GET LOST, WILL NEVER LISTEN TO HIS OWNERS WHISTLE - please do nor be frustrated by the negative responses you receive here - you have done God's work telling them the truth - they are from those who are already lost overseas and wish more to destroy their future with that same move of japa - the same AMERICA - Femi Gbajabiamila stole $25k from his client and became a felon and ended his law practice in disgrace to come live in Nigeria? that is an American lawyer ooo - trained in the US - no worry make ona japa, after 40 years in the west, ona go remember this post - enuff said!!!!

The only incentive for relocating to the west is the exchange rate.....nothing more...

The working conditions is far worse.
The taste of their food is another disaster for an immigrant.

That is not entirely true. Even elite Chinese and Indians migrate to the west. Exchange rate is not the only incentive. I am sure you have never lived abroad.

Nigerian in the west are only pretending to be better off than those in Nigeria.....and to perfect the lies.......they post their earrings and expenditures in Naira online.........what else can be deceiptful that earnings and spending in dollars but your calculation is in naira..........gross inferiority complex at it peak

Only people who failed at economics do the bold.

One of my uncle in New York told; when you leave that country (Nigeria) then you'll understand how bad the country is....... meanwhile up till now, he is unable to secure a reasonable career driven job....

That is your uncle's fault. I am sure he migrated on a visit visa rather than via education of American Lottery or standard work visa. Nigerians in the US on standard visas are doing extremely well. You can use his condition to console yourself though, if it makes you happy.

Hmm I concord. Am at no 8. Am enjoying myself right now. And I can continue with no kind of harassment.
To be sincere only the poor ones among us that japa.

That is not true. Migration is expensive, terribly expensive. Only the middle class can afford it. Why there are fewer wealthy Nigerians residing abroad is because most of them did during their youth. The same thing younger folks are doing presently. The older folks have gotten residency abroad, which is why they can decide to reside in Nigeria.

No elite in Nigeria has only the Nigerian passport.

The embittered posts reminds of IbeOkehie who said most Nigerians are envious of their diasporan counterparts.

I never said it's not more here, it is but i actually prefer if undergraduates don't see jobs as the sole reason for graduating
