Very jobless useless entity.
Enter Nigeria and talk na.

His submission is just asslicking in disguise.

Why can't he propose that CBN give out at least 10 million naira loans to everyone?
All the abacha loots shid have been used for this.

But emefelie was busy dashing his cronies loans.

But Reno won't think like a literate. Instead it's petty things he thinks about.
So na betting dey make naija economy go down abi? Where are the factories and companies for the youths to work in?

How many youths has he employed?

U want the youths who gamble to stop gambling and go into robbery abi.

Very senseless talk.

Gambling may have it's demerits but is that a priority?

Even the drug epidemic is far bigger issue cos even his mates are spending millions ingesting drugs and taking irrational decisions.

Social media influencer, Reno Omokri, has urged President Bola Tinubu to ban sports betting apps in the country.

According to Omokri, a ban on sports betting apps could even help improve the value of the Naira.

Omokri, who quoted the National Lottery Trust Fund. lamented that “$1 billion is spent on gambling daily in Nigeria.”

The media influencer expressed his views in a series of tweets shared via his X profile on Wednesday.

His tweet read, “President Tinubu can immediately improve the economic conditions of most Nigerians and make the Naira grow by issuing an Executive Order authorising the Nigerian Communications Commission to ban sports betting apps from the App Store of any GSM Internet Service Provider in Nigeria and revoking the licenses of any physical sports betting operators in Nigeria. It makes better sense than Buhari’s draconian #TwitterBan.”

The former Special Assistant to erstwhile President Goodluck Jonathan stated that an average Nigerian spends “$15 daily on sports betting and other types of gambling.”

Omokri noted that despite the high rate of gambling in the country, the “vast majority of that amount” is leaving the shores of the country into foreign nations, compared to the nation’s externally generated revenue.

“This is scary. How much is our GDP that we are pissing it away like that? More money is leaving Nigeria through gambling than is coming in,” he wrote.

Omokri cautioned., “The Naira can never sustain its rally under such circumstances.”

The tweet stated further, “There is such an epidemic of gambling in Nigeria and it is destroying Nigerian youths. $1 billion is spent on gambling daily in Nigeria, according to the National Lottery Trust Fund. Please fact-check me.

“The average Nigerian spends $15 daily on sports betting and other types of gambling, with the vast majority of that amount leaving our economy and going to places like Russia, South Africa, and Europe. The Naira can never sustain its rally under such circumstances.”

Findings by PUNCH Online reveal that several sports betting firms operate in Nigeria. Some of the betting firms include Bet9ja, Nairabet, Merry Bet and SportyBet, amongst others.

Omokri, in his post, further urged Tinubu to “act on such a matter as threatening to our national security as this gambling epidemic.”

He also condemned the illegal means through which some Nigerian youths sought money “to fund their gambling habit.”

PUNCH Online reports that the Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Zephaniah Jisalo, said the Federal Government would find a lasting solution to the friction caused by revenue generation in the gaming sector.

Jisalo noted that the FG “will do all within its statutory powers to ensure the gaming industry remains on the steady path of sustainable growth and development,” while speaking at the 2023 International Gaming Conference held at the Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos State, on Tuesday, October 31, 2023.

The Fund’s Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer, Bello Maigari, appearing before the House of Representatives Committee on Finance on Monday, November 20, 2023, stated that the Fund, in 2023, generated N2.5 billion, noting however that the entire sum had been spent in the execution of various projects across the country.

The money, he said, was generated from statutory remittances from licenses and permit holders.

A dunce. Like crypto apps, you can't ban betting apps. They'll simply change physical location and continue their trade.

The best you can do is to encourage banks to develop Gambling Blocks. Fintechs in Nigeria can learn from UK's challenger bank, Monzo (or DM for a comprehensive proposal). Create blocks that make it difficult for addicts to use their debit cards for gambling transactions beyond certain thresholds.

A rare occasion when Omokri is making sense, at least about the problem. Not sure if banning is the best solution -especially if government can take a significant chunk of the revenu,?especially for stuff like youth and sports development.

Very nice suggestion. Sport betting is not a productive venture. We need our youth to be productively engaged in productive and creative ventures not in get-rich-quick ventures. You won't see Chinese daily sitting idly looking for lottery windfall that will never be in their lifetime.
there is job in china but no job in nigeria.i prefer to play sport betting than drinking or smoking cigarettes.if not for God and sports betting I don't know what would have happened to me.God has used spory betting to help me many times

Reno Omonkri is completely mental! The most humane thing the APC can do is to lock him inside an asylum and pay his residency fees at least 30 years in advance.

APC must NEVER foist this lunatic named Reno Omokri on innocent Niigerian citizens under the guise of political appointment!

. God and gambling in the same breath. Na wa! Some of us have decided to create God in our own image. And how many times did the devil use sports betting to give you false hope and make you lose money? What about the addiction? Is it also from God?

That's the reason the sport betting industry needs to be sustained. If not for the industry many young people go they do arm robbery. Federal government just need to key into it by ensuring good policies n proper monitoring of the industry are put in place. A country that has no job to give to its young people should not be in a hurry to implement Reno's suggestion on stopping sport betting.

What entrepreneurial initiatives or SMEs incentives have both FG and state governments put in place to encourage productivity among Nigerian young population? For example how many trade missions, export drive initiatives, etc has FG put in place to sell our local products to international market e.g our "senator dress" could be made an international outfit for black people all over the world by intentional actions. Has FG released any incentive and knowledge-transfer packages to encourage people with idle money to invest in factories to create employment?

Don't mind that guy, he does not know what he's saying. They just think everything is done by mouth alone. He's talking like our politicians, they will say something and be doing another thing. Evil bunch of bastard

Great Point by Reno...some of the things that have evaporated the middle class in Nigeria and diverted money to the rich

1. Data and Social media...we are Twitter, instagram, YouTube, Facebook burning data to watch folks that are rich getting richer.

2. GoTV and Dish ...some are spending N25k per month equivalent of N300k a year just to watch 5 - 10 channels max on Dish

3. Sports Betting and Sports ...we spend some many valuable time watching sports especially those that bet on them...its only a little money daily. Well it adds up idiot.

4. Alcohol and Weeds ...it used to be terrible kids that smoke at all or drink...now we spend both legit and stolen money on weeds

5. Private schools ...so many of them. N300k per year from Primary 1 - 6 and JS 1 - SS3 is N300k * 12 = N3.6 million per child. By the time, you finish at tertiary, almost N5m will be spent on each child. Guess what...most are still coming out to fight for jobs with kids that went to public schools. If you attend Private tertiary, you will spend almost N10m per child from PreK to First Degree...for parents who are well prepared, the graduates will japa, have jobs waiting...and for the rest, good luck if the child didnt even make 1st or 2.1.

I wont add females to the list because that was always in vogue from the beginning of time...even though it might be worse now, but these 4 things above...check your budget and thank me later. There are other loss of income like two cars and petrol...unless you are using the cars to generate money. Very few people in their 40s can count families that had more than 1 car growing up. Some of these are what we call..."Agbana - things that take your money away" I am not saying you should not bam bam...but grow your wealth first then indulge if you must.

Sports Betting is one of the symptoms of massive unemployment & lack of jobs.

Banning it like trying to cure Malaria with Panadol because of the headache symptoms.

True...and besides people like Reno just want to appear morally upright as they consider betting an immoral act. I think what gets to these people is when there is a healine that says for example, "1Billion is spent daily on gambling".....do they know how much in total in a day is spent on beer, sex(prostitution), drugs, clothes, jewelries, parties, etc

To each is own...I don't even do betting
