That is why I hate all this social intervention funds, conditional cash transfer, N- power, school feeding program...it's just an avenue and opportunity for politcians and government officials to loot money and enrich themselves and the poor nigerians do not benefits from this programs
It's better all this money to be allocated to the agriculture sector..mechanized farming and use the money to support farmers...grants , provide farmers with fertilizers and other farming equipments,..this will boost the agriculture sector and food sufficiency and the prices of food stuffs will be cheap

Like Kperogi said in his piece, she was likely - and naively, perhaps - following the established pattern of payment in the ministry which further highlights to the stench of high level corruption of the previous admin.

This does not in anyway absolve her, btw.

Common sense says it isn't legal. Apart from the civil service regulations, rational thinking dictates that such amount of money should be dispensed from a government account for transparency and accountability.

We are not surprised by the kind of people appointed as Ministers, most of whom are mistresses, party hangers on and miscreants.

I still respect Obj till tomorrow. Dude was not sentimental, went for only the best of the best, unfortunately we took that Obj regime for granted. Every other president has been worse off than his predecessor.

My question is that who are these vulnerables these people are always crying about. Who are the ones benefitting from all the funds they always transfer to private accounts. I based in Lagos and I have never seen anyone being given this grant they always talk about. These people have finished this country.

While the attached circular also prohibit project.monies to be paid to individual accounts

The real issue is being side stepped by focusing on the legality or illegality of the money transfer medium.

For me, the main issue is wether the money was used for the purpose it is said to be designated for or was it siphoned.

Once the above is ascertained, then we can now focus on how to make sure such transactions follow due process.

Resignation is one word that doesn't exist in the lexicon of our political class otherwise, Dr. Betta Edu by now should've saved the administration she serves the embarrassment & public opprobrium by stepping down as Minister for Humanitarian Affairs.

Even if her intentions were altruistic, there's no justification for sending a request to the Accountant General for the release of over half a billion Naira into the private account of a staff of her ministry whether the person is "project accountant" for the GVG or not.

The law says it's legal to transfer to personal account in such case(grant) but must be transfered directly to beneficiaries account.That is why the people who are supposed to get these grants don't see the money.corruption everywhere.
