Apologies if these questions have been answered already; I could not find answers through my search. Q: A friend got an F1 visa for a PhD (sponsored) but not in Nigeria. His family are still in Nigeria. He booked an appointment on behalf of his family, but he received a message saying they would contact them via email. Please, how long does it take before one receives this email from the embassy? How soon can the family get the appointment? I look forward to your answers |

Khodry:Unrelated but I did appreciate expert opinions on this please. What can influence the decision for someone to apply for visa with his/her family (partner and kid)? Is it when you have funding? Enough personal/family fund? What will be the home tie in this situation please? |
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 17 by Sisib15: 7:22pm On Jan 14 |
All of you can go for the interview but it based on 50/50 without funding but if there is funding it will make the interview easier. For your case, the 1500 funding is too small. You don't need to pay all at once before going to school but you need to prove to the VO that you can capable of taking care of all the financial expenses including living expenses and others Khodry: |

I don'tlike discouraging peoplebecausei believe everyone'sjourney is different and you may not know the outcomeof your situation unless you try. Funding makes the F1 Journey easier in all its ways and you can also get Visa without funding but it all depends on how you play your card and prove to the VO idirect: 1 Like |

On mock interview: There seems to be more misinformation than "intell" (i.e. intelligence) going around. Several instances of persons being asked to rejig responses hours/days before visa interview. Note: - no-one knows the applicant better than the applicant (him/herself), - the criteria is clear: "purpose", "financing" and "home-tie", - the applicant documentation (e.g. form completed before interview, documents brought to interview) and verbal responses (on the D-day) need to tie (as discrepancies are easy grounds for visa refusal), - the study in US journey requires own effort and time beyond money; spend time understanding the strengths and weaknesses of own profile vis-a-vis the criteria (for non-immigrant visa e.g. F1) - if a suggested response does not fit the applicant's profile or sounds controversial, it is unlikely to be tenable during the interview. 7 Likes 2 Shares |

Hello house. How many days in advance of resumption date can one appear for an F1 visa interview? Assuming an applicant is resuming for Fall 2024, will he/she has to wait till July or August before he starts applying for an F1 visa and then show for an interview ? |

Rdfactor:Based on the new policy, an F1 visa can be applied for not more than a year to the resumption date. So you can go ahead and apply since you're resuming this fall |

Hello, thank you for your response. I have a question regarding waiting for funding after getting admission, is there any preparation or process involved in securing an Assistantship position after already passed through the GTA survey and interview from the previous admission process? I know someone who is looking to secure a GA position for Fall, he was deferred from Spring semester because he couldn't get a position. Is he going to get automatically secured for a position this time around? If you had secured admission and not waiting for funding, start Asap. If you seek for funding, I would advise you to wait until you receive your letter. |

Hi! Although it would have been better if your SEVIS designation was "authorized early withdrawal" instead of "Transfer -No show", I think that you have a valid reason when you go for your interview. Be ready to explain your health condition as the reason behind your request to defer admission. Go with medical reports and preferably, a letter from your physician explaining your health condition. The VO may not ask for this paperwork but you should be able to articulate this health condition to the VO without the paperwork. Also, explain why you decided to come back to Nigeria instead of staying back in the US whatever this may be, whether it is because your student health insurance may not have been adequate to cover treatment, high copay etc. Go with all correspondence with your DSO in case you need to refer to it during the interview. Good luck with your interview!! Rdfactor: 1 Like |

Hello people. Just a quick question and responses are appreciated. Any info on blacklisted schools in the US and how to avoid them? I am also looking for a good public school in Texas for masters with a good intake record who do not require TOEFL. 1 Like |

For the WES evaluation, You will create an account with WES and then input your academic details, you will select WES ICAP evaluation and also choose US academicevaluation .After that you will need to pay the WES fee of about 217 dollars or so you can check on the website to confirm. This is the trick i used when i was in Nigeria, i dont have the money to pay yet, so i created the account ,fill in my academicdetails (my two results) in your case it will be WAEC or high school.so i thenproceed to use western union as a means of payment (which i don't have the money ) I clicked on the western union thing and I was able to generate an ID .It is this ID i sent to my schools in Nigeria that they use to sent my result to WES. What I am saying is that you need to generateWES ID which you will take to your high school so they can send your result to WES . For the third question, i don't know the session you are applying for. If it's fall i will suggest your start your application before march because most schools with funding would have rolled out admissions and funding before you even finish applying .you might be lucky to get admitted but funding might be difficult because you are applying late .If your application is for spring, you are good to go but funding opportunities in spring is limited. For the third question, the cost of your tuition will determine the amount that you need to present to get your I20. If your aunty will be sponsoring be ready to prove to the VO why you aunty will be spending such a huge amount of money on you when you parents are alive. I hope this helps and if you need any information. Quote me Ellskc: 1 Like 1 Share |

Ellskc: Some schools don't need WES evaluation. Also, I will encourage you to apply early enough to get what you seek as funding is very limited. Start preparing for TOEFL and SAT and ensure you have a high score. For now, focus on TOEFL and SAT and leave the rest pending when you have taken the exams. See you at the top! Shalom!!! |
