I have pumped the water for more than three hours nonstop before. Yet this continues.

When you start pumping at first, the water is dirty but clears after like 10 to 20 minutes. And the water remains clean like that for the rest of the day.

But once I try to pump again the following day, it starts with very dirty water again. And continues for like another 10 to 20 minutes before it clears and becomes clean.
Get a plumber to add a flushing discharge. It basically consists of a ballgauge and a T- pipe. The whole idea is to monitor the water before you lock the discharge and start sending to your overhead tanks or containers.

How long did you flush it for?

You'll need continuous flushing for at least 2 weeks before you can get clean water..... Not just pumping for usage.....

The other problem is if the casing wasn't done properly, it cld also cause this problem

The 3rd problem is if the pump is too close to the bottom of the well.

Solutions
1. Pump and flush for a week or two with little break at interval for the pumping machine to rest.

2. Ask the company if they can add more cases or not (I don't know if that's possible but ask them)

3. Reduce the depth of the pumping machine by removing one length of pipe and see if there's any difference.

Goodluck

This sounds like it would help. Thanks so much. I'll try these.

I am currently facing the same issue. Mine, I will have to pump out 100 litres, before directing the rest to my storage tank.
.
But my plumber advice that I install another pipe so the machine can go down further, run the water for like 2 hours, therafter we remove the extra pipe.
.
The day we planned on doing it, after installing the pipe, 10 minutes gone, my generator amatur got burnt.
.
Some borehole drillers are devils, I drilled my bore hole in 2019, I was unable to supervise, imagine this bast+RDS installed 3quarter pump with fake aluminium wire inside a depth of 120feet borehole.. around that 2019 things were still cheaper than, we detected the wires were fake in 2022. Spent over 15k buying original wire last 2 years,
.
This year,I just bought 1 hp pump to replace the 3 quarter. Omo I weak

Sad. So yours hasn't corrected since 2019?

Nothing is wrong with your borehole .

Am just coming home from my site where I had same issue .

the only thing you'll do is to keep pumping the water time to time even thou you don't need water ....

it will clear I can assure you cos soil is different from place to place .

Mine is even 85m and we were there for almost 3months cos of stones and some gum clay like that .

no be joke o !

3months.

The drilling was done with a rig. So it didn't take up to an hour.

Let me hope the water clears soon. Thanks.

It happened to my borehole, I was asked to keep pumping it for longer hours. With time it stoped bringing out dirty water

Wow. But I want to get something.

Would your own bring out dirty water first before bringing out clean one?

Or was the water usually dirty all through?

This would take a while to clear out, I have seen something similar in the north, it took almost a month of constant usage before it stopped..The borehole was sunk when the house was undergoing some major renovations, So the water was put to use like that. till it cleared out.

I even thought the brown thingy is a feature of new boreholes sha

Okay. Thanks.

Hello all,

Please I drilled a new borehole for my village house.

According to the geologist who did the survey, we'd get water at 65 meters. So I paid him to bring drillers to drill 65m well.

After the whole drilling and installation, and flushing of the well, I noticed that each time I pump the water, the well brings out dirty brown water for like 20 minutes before it starts bringing out clean water.

And the next time I pump the water, it repeats the same way. I have contacted the drilling company and they are not saying anything useful.

Please I will appreciate contributions from experienced people on how to navigate this challenge.

Please @mods, or the mod in charge of this section, kindly help me push this to the front page. I really need opinions.

Thanks.
It's normal. It ll clear completely with time. Pump out completely non stop for hours.

If you want permanent solution, try and reline it and do flushing.
The borehole is not well cased down.

Thank my later after doing this.

Please, how's this relining done?
Re: My New Borehole Pumps Out Dirty Water First, Before Clean Water. Help! by weiwei(m): 10:56am On Jan 20
That shows that the well still have some silt beneath that has not been cleaned out. The solution is to pump the water for 2 to 3hours non stop. It will be clean afterwards.

Guy that's same thing I'm experiencing, don't be worried just look for when you will have constant electricity for like 4 to 5 hours pump and flush d dirty water away

Did you case it properly?

Also 65m seems to me to be too shallow to produce clean water. That water is gonna be prone to contamination.

The geologist who did the survey assured me 65m was okay. And most wells around here are also around that depth.

I can't really say something about the casing. But I believe it was full casing.
Re: My New Borehole Pumps Out Dirty Water First, Before Clean Water. Help! by ejieddy: 11:02am On Jan 20
You need to carry out your own investigation with your neighbors. 65m means over 20 riser pipes and that entails that getting water in that area is quite difficult. So if anyone has gotten water by drilling a borehole, inquire if they experience same thing. Then at what depth did they get clean water. Though I reckon ground formation might be different for diff places.

Even if you flush with chemicals, I doubt this will work because you have been pumping for quite long. I think the drilling company stopped too soon on drilling when they discovered water and it's on them. You would have paid quite a lot of money especially in Ebonyi because you have more rocky and limestone formation. So talk to them again or sue them. I feel this is a breach of contract because you might have to drill another borehole.

Re: My New Borehole Pumps Out Dirty Water First, Before Clean Water. Help! by ajadematanle: 11:11am On Jan 20
There is no cause for alarm. Borehole needed to be pump continuously for minimum of 24hrs before the water could be crystal clear. Pumpinf for 20minutes before getting clear got to show that you're getting closer to get completely clean.Just continue to pump. That's is the process. The driller will only pump to clean all the mud from the hole and also be sure that the pumping is not cutting, once it's established that the borehole is pumping well, the onus in on you to get generator or electricity power from the grid to continue pumping until no sand coming with the water from the borehole, then you can connect to the tank for use.I think this has allayed your fear

65 meters is not very deep to reach clean water for machine drilled borehole and it may take a few weeks or months for the water channels to clear before you can reach clean water.

Also check the water pump capacity. If it is above 0.5 HP for that depth, it could contribute to it.

More over when the geologist told him there will be water @65m, He should had told him to drill for either 75-80m, there he will be assured of clean waters

I'm not very familiar with the terrains in Ebonyi, but it looks like a leaching problem.

You know when mineral matters are washed into the underground aquifers by percolation.

Since it only comes out when you first start the pump, it doesn't look like a serious problem.

First get drillers to flush the borehole, if the problem persist, then afix a union connector to the pipe run. Loosen it when you first start the pumping machine so you can bleed out the bad water and tighten it back when it's clean again.

The water should be fine within six months if you pump every other day.
Wells become cleaner, the more you pump them.
Oga u wan kill lay man with minarology abi.. Union connector is his sure plug but if na big boy costly solution can be found

Paid 11k per meter.

If it doesn't clear soon, I'll have to arrest the man.

Reading through the thread I see alot of ignorant people saying things they know nothing about. angry
Dear Op,I've been drilling boreholes for more than 20years.
You need to conduct a water quality analysis; that's the only way to tell why your water is not clear. I'll also advise you stop making use of the water for now cos there's a chance the discoloration may be caused by harmful substances.
I can help solve your problem whenever I am in the east.

Similar to mine, After pumping for hours and another flushing operation with chemical and all that, I have resign to fate and connected a bleeder (flush discharge) to pump away water for 15 minutes before I turn on the tank tape.

Most people that complain about dirty tanks do have this issue unknowingly because after installing, they were not there when the connection to the tank was completed.

What if they are toxic ?

I just checked Ebonyi state's altitude on google. It's about 125-250m above sea level so you still have a lot of work to do. Where I lived before, in Ijede, Ikorodu, Lagos, it was just 13m deep.

Are u sure it was properly fushed after drilling?

Since it's newly constructed, I think flushing is the issue. Just disconnect d water from d source. Pump and allow it to flush for hours. Den check for difference.

It is not deep enough. It's not about flushing and its not good for the life of the pumping machine.

If you don't rectify it now, start putting money together for a new pump
