If your brother is your sponsor, you should login his mobile app on your phone to show you have access to the money whenever you need it. You can also carry cash as POF.
OralBoy:

Thank you so much for this brother, I really needed this. Especially those questions that Immigration may ask at the POE. Nobody has said anything about those even on Youtube videos that I watch.

I have a few questions if you don't mind.

1. How do we show proof of funds at the POE? Can I pay USD into my DOM account and show them there? Or print bank statements and bring along with me? My brother is my sponsor and I used his account for the POF for my Visa.

2. Should I open a GIC account instead and also use that as POF at POE?

I am applying for a study permit. I did medical upfront. Please where do I upload the medical report on my visa application portal? Thank you
Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by Urrch: 8:48pm On Jan 21
Greetings Guys,

Please I need a few clarifications and suggestions.

My wife got a study permit Last year in August or September 2024 intake.

She intends to travel on the 23rd of July because her medical expiration date is on the 25th of July 2024 as written on her Border letter to avoid being denied a study permit at the Entry.

My question is,
Do they require a medical validity date to issue a study permit at the POE?

I learned that she is meant to travel 1 month to her school start date. Please If she travels on the 23rd against her school start date which is on the 18th of September, will this be an issue at the border?

Hello house please I have a question

My statement of account has an opening balance of 23m before I built it to 30m within the 6month the statement should run for( no significant lump s). My question is do I need to proof the initial 23m in my letter of explanation despite the fact that it has been in my account prior to when the 6month start reading or I should just explain that it has been my saving over the years for my study purpose.

Thanks

Good evening everyone, I just got admitted to Nova Scotia college for a 2- year diploma course.

1. I will like to ask if it’s possible to work to cover up paying tuition after paying the first part before traveling.
2. Can I use my sister as my sponsor for the POF and what do I need to get from her if yes.

Not sure about the login into his mobile app part. Carrying cash is more feasible for me. Is there a cap on the amount of cash I can carry with me?

Hello Guys,

You don't get to read this quite often here, nevertheless, you may want to read this.

For those who have gotten their PPR, congrats to y'all. For those who are yet to receive their PPR, you will get it.

When coming to Canada, please get your shit together at the point of entry. Depending on the immigration officer that you will be meeting, they may be nice to you, while others will probably not be. Whatever tone they take with you, remain calm and answer to the best of your knowledge.
Please know the answers to simple questions, such as "What course are you studying?", "What is the name of your school?", "What's the duration of your course of study?", "When will you graduate (month and year)?", "where will you stay (address)?" - They may decide to call your contact should you say you will be staying with a friend - If you said Airbnb, please keep your receipt ready. If you did GIC, I'd suggest you log onto their Portal with your phone and have access to your transactions - be ready to show it.

As a JJC who is coming to Canada for the first time, please come with enough food items. Most airlines offer 23 x 2kg, so I'd suggest you have your clothing in one 23kg and food items in the other 23kg. No go pack cloth full everywhere, unless, of course, you carry better bar de come, otherwise na hunger go first kee u b4 cold and rent go use u play monkey post. Groceries cost o. Research abt Canada outlet (electric socket), if you ft get the appropriate adapter for Naija, I mean the one wey go match ur phone/laptop charger, carry am de come, e go save u a few dollars and waka around.

As per accommodations, you do not need to get here first before before looking for a place to stay. You can start the arrangements from Naija. I find kijiji dot com more secure. But Facebook is even cheaper but dem get plenty scammers. You can sublet a room from a student who is going for a co-op (internship) and may want to lease their room for a period of 4 to 8 months. Subletting is generally cheap, although some of them do inflate the prices of those rooms, but as naija pikin, always negotiate! If you are using Facebook posts to look for accommodations, do not pay until you arrive in Canada, and with your two legs and eyes, see the room. Please don't fall for a housing scam! If you are in doubt, always ask questions.

After getting your study permit at the Airport, ask a security person or a worker where you can get your Social Insurance Number (SIN). Remember to carry your luggage afterward.

Get a USD/CAD prepaid card from your bank in Naija, deposit some funds into it, and come with it. Or you can buy CAD from Aboki and come with it (Remember to check for fakes). No go carry USD enter here and come de change am to CAD for airport, their exchange rate is horrible.

Lyft (a rider app) is generally cheap (as compared to others) in my experience, you can download the app and book a ride to pick you up from the airport. There are also Uber and Airport Taxis, but I find them quite expensive.

The Nigerian community here is pretty much not as strong as our Indian brothers, but you will get to meet Nigerians who are quite good (and I don't mean carrying your burden or catering to your needs). You will also get to meet those who are aloof. If you meet a naija brethren here on the first day, you may think they are "feeling too big" but don't worry, you guys may soon become buddies. Always reach out, you just never can tell.

And don't worry, Nigerians de small for this country. Asians de run the streets, so no allow anybody tell you say pple dn full here, na lie, there's enough space for all of us. Depending on the Province wey u de enter, student work ft hard to get, especially in Ontario, you go suffer small oo, na y I de say, come with food (and money for rent, even if it for a few months b4 you find something doing) otherwise you might get discouraged, which may even lead to depression/break down.

Remember, do not take your eyes off the price!

I wish us success! And I wish us well!

You can print bank statement, that would generally be considered the right thing to do. However, it's important to have a mobile bank app that contains the money, because when push comes to shove, na dat mobile app go suffice.

2. Should I open a GIC account instead and also use that as POF at POE? This is not required since I'd assume that you have already submitted your visa. If your brother can deposit the funds in your account then that would be fine, so all you would need to do is to show your balance on ur mobile app.

Good morning house, please I need the advice of the gurus on this thread. My visa application has been approved and I have received my stamped passport. However, I listed my partner as one of my home ties, I even included pictures of us from 2019 till date, stating that I would come back after my study to get married.

Now, he wants us to get married before I leave in April 2024.

1) If we get married in April, do I need to inform IRCC of the change in my marital status and most importantly, would that not raise concerns?

2) Is there a duration people need to be married for before they can apply for SOWP? If I have to get married, I would want him to join me, maybe after six months or a year.

Please I need advice.

Hi, I suggest you go ahead and get married. You do not need to inform IRCC and it will not raise any concern. My wife travelled to canada and did not mention me in her application. she finished her 1 year first program, returned and we got married. She went back for her second program and I applied for SOWP 2 weeks after the wedding and got approved.
Just have enough evidence that the relationship and marriage is genuine. Your spouse will also need to show adequate funds (despite your financial evidence of being able to support both of you in Canada) and strong home ties.

Stay away from this person's advice. Please do not carry cash and do not login to your brother's account. I don't think it's even legal to log into an account you do not share as joint account.
Simply go with a statement of account within the time your application was granted. 1 week to travel date recommended or a day to your trip. your choice.

Thanks so much for the help . I wanted to ask can one get good scholarships for PhD . Also if one gains admission can one start applying for PR as soon as one gets to canada

Hello Bobodudu100,

Both are good schools but you MAY stand more competitive study permit application chances with Uottawa because of its quality teaching standard and rigorous admission process.

You can also check UWindsor for its International Accounting & Finance and Management. Also check Canadore College for its PGC in Business Management with cheaper tuition.

You too will testify

If the 23M is showing as a lump sum then you need to explain how and the source of funds, but if the money is not a lump then you don't to explain it, just explain your work, how you earn and back it up with documents.

They only ask her howmuch she is bringing into the country, then she login into the app and showed them. Also she still have my printed bank statement but she didn’t gv them that one. I think this people only want to know you have enough funds to take care of your self. So you won’t abandon your studies for work.
Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by JMG12: 9:30am On Jan 22
1. Working to pay tuition and other bills might be impossible. But you will survive!
2. Yes, you can use your sister as a sponsor. Get her work documents(employment letter, payslip, ID), if she is a business owner CAC if applicable, contract deed, invoices, statement of account, affidavit, and letter of support (if married the letter should be cosigned by the spouse), international passport, birth certificate, pics etc.
