3 were originally 10 years and 1 15 years. The 3 of the 10 years were issued at different times and different auctions. The outcome/rates arrived at for those 3 auctions are different.

Those 10 years will expire as stated all of them have already started counting since the first auction. The 1 for 2027 is already remaining just 3 years.

Any investment in Naira now is a waste of time.

USD currently at 1425

If you can work in Nigeria and earn at least 1000 USD monthly, you will almost live like a king as USD moves to 2000 with speed.

Actually you deserve the knock on your oblong empty skull since you cant understand that the man earning in USD can easily stay afloat inflation. Inflation will not affect him and even a nursery 3 pupil understands why. USD will not stay same too.

All our politicians have their loots in USD and are not bothered about ever rising cost of USD. Infact they are getting richer as a result cool

Is there any indication that the forex rates will come down anytime soon?

Been seeing stuff about Dangote's refinery helping but not much else has been said

Is the grass going to be green in a few years or its all doom and gloom?

Nice coupon but do you know that the capital of this investment has been devalued by over 383% from 2020 when dollar was at N365.

If you had bought dollar with the capital and held till now, you would have been a lot better.

Your N50m @ N365/$ in 2020 = $136,900, It is now worth N50m /N1400 in 2024 = $35,714.

You lost over $100,000 in 4 years and counting cry

I am quite aware of the Naira's devaluation over 4 years. I am unaffected by it because of my dollar investments as far back as 15 years ago. The FGN bond coupons more than meets my annual expenses in Nigeria and that is super fine with me. Its called diversification. I have a well balanced diversified portfolio that includes FX investments that also pays both coupons and dividends in FX. Don't bother yourself about my FGN bond holdings. My FX investments has covered many times over the devaluation of my FGN Naira bonds you refer to. I am fine because of the benefits of having a diversified portfolio wink grin

I understand how you feel. It happens to all of us (including me). Nobody ever wants to admit he or she made a stupid investment decision, especially relating to Naira. There is no way one is better off holding naira long term. No way at all.

The key problem is that it’s never easy to bite the bullet because we always think it’s not a good time to change. Optimists say Naira can rise anytime, can’t you see Dangote refinery is finished?. Then we keep waiting and waiting and waiting while the naira keeps falling and falling and falling until it got to 1400 😔😢

Here comes the classic! Another one is all my expenses are in naira so I have no business with dollars.

Well, fast forward to 2024, most people that I know on/from this platform now have some sort of dollar-denominated investments after lambasting those who took a similar route when USD was between N250 - N450.

Last-last, everyone should do what works for them. However, in all diversifications, consider your current age and circumstance!
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by skydiver01: 2:02pm On Jan 27
I am unperturbed. I made the FGN Naira bond investments with the sole objective of the coupons meeting my expenses in Nigeria which continues to hold true today even while the Naira has continued to fall. This is the reason I also made majority of my portfolio in FX investments. My two kids are out of university and in gainful employment. I have no rent to pay in Nigeria because my properties are fully paid for and I am paid rent on one of them. I will give you a simple example (though I have many) of why I am unperturbed. I live a simple life though I do enjoy myself with friends. However, in the last 10 years I have been unable to spend more than N6m a year on expenses. So, even if the Naira falls to N5,000 to the US Dollar, it simply cannot bother me in the least. This is why it is important to have a diversified portfolio. It is meant to balance out risks and continue to grow. I assure you I made a good investment in the FGN Naira bonds because it met and continues to meet my needs and objectives. My Naira investments were never based on an expectation of the Naira appreciating and I am not also interested in converting any of my FX investment's coupons and dividends into Naira - those are for my expenses when I am not in the country holidaying. I hope the above helps put into perspective your assumption of how I feel wink

Well as you can't win it all. With knowledge on your side, you were able to diversify.

Now, imagine how over 200 million Nigerians without this knowledge and spare cash to buy dollar have been thrown into extreme misfortune.

Most of the rich knew about this and they multiplied their worth easily. So long as you live in Nigeria whether you earn in Pounds or Malaysian ringgit the devaluation affects you but then the worst set of people are thecones who have only Naira as currency.
