Got my first decision mail from University of Notre Dame. I was rejected for PhD Chemical Engineering. I've 3 more pending decisions to go for Fall 2024 (all PhDs). Finger Crossed, I still believe my moniker will come to pass inshallah cool grin.

I’m very sorry. Stay strong. You will receive good news soon! When you do, come buy me beer🌝

Any PhD or Masters Economics applicant to these schools? If any, let's link up.

West Virginia University?
University of Maine?
Western Illinois University?

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for decisions very soon.

Again, I would like to ask about the possibility of getting a PhD Economics through B.Sc degree in Economics from Nigeria. People often say that Economics in Nigerian Universities ain't quantitative and mathematical enough compared to Ghana and South Africa.

So I would like to know if you've seen any Nigerian who obtained PhD admission in Economics in the USA through his/her B.Sc degree in Economics

Note: I'm not disputing my chances though, I have a first class degree in Economics, a very good recommendation letter, 333 in GRE (170 in Quantitative, 163 in Verbal) and also have three years research experience with a top consulting firm in Nigeria.

The Nigerian Degree is quantitative Enough. I know someone who got a fully funded PhD in Economics with a Degree in Economics (and statistics. The person graduated from Uniben). Typically, the department website will have a list of prerequisite courses you should have taken in your undergraduate program. If the courses are listed in your transcript, you shouldn’t have any problems. But understand that Economics is very competitive and most programs accept <3 students yearly. I believe you should have applied to more programs but I’m confident you’d get in somewhere. When you do, don’t forget to come and buy me beer.

I got a UCF offer too. Full funding tho. We could link up. Are u stil considering UCF?

This is really impressive. UCF is known for giving out unfunded PhDs. I was a victim. Congratulations!!! When you get your visa, come and buy me beer.

Most U.S schools accept only direct LoRs from the Profs. They will only ask for your 2/3 recommenders official email address in the application portal, and contact the Profs directly via email. All four schools I applied to used the same format for accepting LoRs so I don't know if it's a new normal.

This may be unethical or immoral but you can create random gmail accounts. Then get official letterhead from your school, make colored copies and use them for your LORs. You can upload the letters yourself via the gmail. Universities will accept it especially if it’s on Uni letter headed paper.

If you have less than 2 years of work experience, Saint Louis University (with scholarship)

I only mentioned the experience because most of your classmates will have the same

Rejected it immediately. Going to the embassy with an unfunded PhD is automatic refusal.

Unethical hacks like this might be handful in the future especially when dealing with uncooperative recommenders with the deadline running close (I missed WashU in St Louis application deadline because of a similar scenario). Thanks for this advice wink.

Hey 🤠

@MrSoftlife I know you are part of the people that does not want Slave Trade to end .

*** But let me ask you this question ... ARE YOU PEOPLE FINDING IT DIFFICULT TO POINT OUT " Meaning " OUT OF AN ESSAY or WRITE UP ?

**** Of all my response , THE ONLY THING YOU COULD POINT OUT IS HAVARD UNIVERSITY 😃

1. I used Havard University as a case study .. I DID NOT SAY APPLY TO HAVARD UNIVERSITY . Go back and read very well and if it's only Havard your eyes can see let someone interpret the piece for you .

2. For your information, let me teach you this ... There is no Unpopular Universities in the United States , Any University that is able to Issue Form I 20 is reputable enough to admit International Students .

3. Ganging up in criticizing genuine information or NEW INNOVATION will just keeps all of you stagnant .

4. I am not proving too know , most of what i say here is through personal research , 45% via Google references , and 20% via phone calling of friends and families in the United States .

5. I just discovered that there are too many of you OLD BOTTLES on NL who does not want Nairaland to grow . ARE YOU PEOPLE HAPPY WITH CONSTANT VISA REJECTION ?

6. Someone applied for MBA five (5) times with visa failure, and the guy came to his senses by asking question on Nairaland ..I advised him to try do a new thing and @ Naijalarry said he should go ahead on the 6th attempt with the same MBA ...WHY

Best Wishes 🙏

Hello again, good day sir. You gave me useful advise earlier, I am doing my mba in France but want to move to USA for fall intake later. I have another question if you’re able to help, my bsc was in engineering, I am doing mba in France and I got admission to study IT in USA, but you advised that I may have issues convincing visa officer.
I thought of something, is it possible to simply defer my USA admission till the end of my mba here in France, while I apply for a visit visa right away (it should be valid for five years) then enter USA at the end of my program with visit visa, go to my school in USA, get I-20 and head to consulate to change my status to F1 visa.
Is this a workable plan? How feasible/possible is this?

Thanks again

Hello,

I need all the help I can get, please. I got a fully funded doctoral scholarship from the University of Chicago. I was awarded their most prestigious fellowship for my academic excellence with an extra 8k USD on top. I intend to travel with my wife. So, we want to start the visa process but I have zero knowledge of what to do like:

1. Can we fill the DS 160 form now and schedule for June without paying the visa fee? Like to pay it later..The school promised to pay it but can only do so in April when they start their Visa process.

2. How do we establish strong home ties? I think that's the only part we need to get right as we already have funding that covers for her deficit.

If there are other things we need to put together so as to present a strong application, please feel free to share.

I need information, please.

Congratulations on your scholarship, I love to read things like this.
Last time I checked with someone who got a fully funded one he got the visa alongside his wife and kid.
You can fill form now and setup and appointment profile but to get a date you must link your payment receipt to your profile to access the date area.

1. A few posts back, someone outlined all the stages of what to do.

2. I think maybe stressing the fact that your funding covers your spouse on the day of the interview will go a long way. "She will not be a burden, but she will provide the emotional support you need in the course of your program."
