Muhammad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto, has lamented the economic hardship in the country, saying Nigerians are frustrated and hungry.

The traditional ruler spoke at the 6th executive committee meeting of the northern traditonal rulers council (NTRC) which held in Kaduna state on Wednesday.

He said insecurity and poverty are the major issues causing trouble for the people of the north.

“To make matters worse, we are faced with rising levels of poverty of most of our people; a lack of normal sources of livelihood for the common man to have even a good meal a day,” he said.

“But I believe talking about insecurity and the rising level of poverty are two issues that we cannot fold our arms and think everything is okay.

“I have said it so many times and at so many fora that, things are not okay in Nigeria and of course, things are not okay in the north.

“To me, this government is a continuation of the former government; it is the same party.

“So, what really is the problem? I think that is one of the reasons we are here to talk to ourselves.”

The sultan said traditional rulers owe it a duty to Nigerians, who believe in the traditional institution, to bring solutions to the various problems facing the country.

“Education is important, so whatever issue you want to bring here, you must talk about education, you must talk about health issues and of the two monsters that have been harassing all of us here that is insecurity and poverty,” he said.

“And let’s not take it for granted; people are quiet, they are quiet for a reason because people have been talking to them.

‘We have been talking to them, we have been trying to tell them things will be okay and they keep on believing.

“I pray to Almighty Allah that they will not one day wake up and say we no longer believe in you, because that would be the biggest problem because we can’t quieten these people as traditional, spiritual leaders and diplomats forever.

“We have reached that level, people are very agitated, people are hungry, they are angry, but they still believe there are people who can talk to them, they believe in some of their governors, some other traditional rulers, and some of their religious leaders.

“Fortunately, some of us double as traditional and religious leaders.

“So, we have this onerous task of reaching out to everybody, calming them down, and assuring them things will be okay, and they should continue to pray and pray and still do something good because prayer without work will not bring anything.”

Abubakar also expressed concern about the millions of unemployed youths, noting that it poses serious danger to the country.

“We must find jobs for our teeming youths that are sitting idle and I have said it so many times, we sit on a keg of gunpowder, having teeming youths millions of them, without jobs, without food, we are looking for trouble,” he added.

He added that the council is ready to work with the governors.

“And if the governors too want to have peace and stability in their states, they must work with the traditional leaders,” he said.

Good, but I'm surprised this same northern leaders that kept quiet throughout Buhari's administration are now talking, protests are also taking place in the core north, something we didn't see for good 8 years under Buhari.

This country is irredeemable, people choose when to talk and protest, they won't do it if their son is in power, the same thing is playing out in south west, and I don't expect them to join any nationwide protest with Tinubu in Aso Rock.

Anyway, this hardship is unprecedented and I agree with everything he said.

In saner climes leaders resign if they can't fulfill their promises, I remember several UK prime ministers like David Cameron, Theresa May, Boris Johnson and Liz truss, they all resigned.

We have a clueless president.

Everyone is feeling the heat. May be our brain will be reset after all.

On more serious note, if you know how Nigeria works, this distress call by Sultan may sound harmless but it is pregnant.

The stunning thing is that President Tinubu and his team seem helpless so far.

All these would have been prevented if we had used common sense in choosing our leadership instead of pandering to ethno-religious sentiments.

Now that the ship has set sail , we must bear the brunt of our actions or inactions.

The rate at which the Sultan is groaning lately is worrisome. He's clearly closer to the people.

Tinubu’s victory did not come as surprise: Sultan of Sokoto

President-General of the NSCIA and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, stated this in a congratulatory message to Mr Tinubu, issued by the council’s Deputy Secretary-General, Prof. Salisu Shehu, on Tuesday in Abuja.

Mr Abubakar said: “We have followed with keen interest his trajectory in the Nigerian political landscape.

“We can attest to his track records in public service, his decades of hard work, selflessness, sacrifice, unflagging commitment and dedication to the Nigerian project.

“And the excellent interpersonal relationships that he had built across the country over the years.

“He is a very experienced human and financial resources manager, a hunter of talents and an enabler of men and women.”

The Sultan stated that Mr Tinubu was a “sui generis” among his peers in the encouragement that he constantly gave to the Nigerian youths to offer their best in the service of our country.

Sultan is part of the problem, he supports violence, how will the north develope? When some one wins an election you will gang up against him to do Muslim Muslim ticket, forgetting that poverty knows no tribe or religion. When Christians are killed you will not say anything, when Muslims are killed you will open your mouth to talk, have you forgotten we are all humans and Nigerians?

This bunch of never do wells are up to something and Jagaban and his band of awon lesson teachers should watch it.

Tinubu think say he will just grab power loot like other past leaders and go home enjoy forever at the end of his 8 years tenure.

It is easy to shout EMILOKAN and grab power by all means but Nigerians wont tolerate nonsense from him.

Alimajiri is better than u peter obi supporters. Only a fool will still be waiting for messiah.

I will want to wish you don't have problems with comprehension.

The only fool waiting for a Messiah may just be you because I clearly stated in my write-up that "the ship has set sail and we will have to live with the brunt of our actions or inactions"

If the voice of the people was truly the voice of God, I can bet you that the voices of APC supporters will kill Asiwaju before the voices of Obi's supporters.

Igbo would have feared that if it was Obi that is showing them shege banza everyday, they know where both igbo and Yoruba live in the northern regions before the Kwakwanso judgement the head of Yorubas living in Kano pleaded with tinubu that if judgement does not favor Kwakwanso that Yorubas will be massacred so tinubu and CJ ariwoola allowed reason to prevail and there was peace but this time around every Yoruba in north and all parts of Nigeria should be on red alert because northerners are very crazy, can wake up and start killings any day
