Please I’ve been thinking about this since last year. I teach here In Nigeria. I can’t afford to go to the western or Asian countries but I think I can be able to save to move to Gabon to atleast teach.

I’ve checked their minimum wage, unemployment rate and their exchange rate snd I think it’s better off than Nigeria. Please advise me. I’m still single and in my mid 30s.

Is it worth taking a try? I know no one there.

I am willing to take the risk to go look for a job there with what I’ve saved so far. I’m projecting 500k.

Please I honestly and sincerely need your advice

Go and explore it's also part of education. If you win good for you if you loose atleast you have learnt a lesson.

Exchange rate is not a good judgement of a country's economy.

Nigeria is still the cheapest country to live in, in Sub Saharan Africa.

You won't appreciate Nigeria until you go to other African countries.

Use that money to start a business or go to school of nursing or masters and apply to teach in their Universities! It is better than going to any African country to teach secondary school students.

The bolded is a fact. The issue is the purchasing power of our currency and the salaries are generally low. Minimum wage should not be less than N100,000.

I don't understand how Kids on this forum think??
You wake up because of how hard things is and you make up your mind to travel?
You think say that country you are planning to go, there isn't any hardship there?
Apart from US, Europe, Some part of Asia and Aussie, any other aforementioned countries you are traveling to at your own risk and wasting your valuable time you've supposed to establish something meaningful with yourself in Nigeria.

Gabon is not hostile to Nigerian because I have a colleague that works there legitimately and he is earning big, infact he is from Ogun state Ijebu Remo and even want me to come there that I would make it since I studied Mechanical engineering also and have serious knowledge of diesel generator repairs. But as of now I declined.

Relocate if you have the opportunity.

Gabon has electricity. Like other African countries, they are not really using it for anything.

If you Japa and do business, do some with your intended trade name, but do many in the country's name. When I use to run a restaurant, I used their local name, but my menu had diverse food, and that is where I got creative with names.

I wish you good luck.

Is possible to make it anywhere, some people get their platform to success in Nigeria or Africa, while some spring boards to success might be when you travel out.

Gabon has steady electricity, which diesel generator will you repair?

The backup generators of few companies that hardly go faulty?

Oga, I have lived and done business in 3 African countries now. Minus the quality of their food and the fact that my family is in Nigeria, there is nothing to miss about Nigeria.
Right now Nigeria is hell compared to most places in Africa.

This is a VERY big falsehood to say that Nigeria is still the cheapest country in Africa. That's trash! Cheapest country with the highest multi dimensional poor of any nation in the World? Forget about it.

Let me even go to the US where your type some times compare the gas or what we call fuel with that of Nigeria. Gas is sold btw $2.8 to $4 per liter in the US depending on the state, city, county or even coy while in Nigeria, it could go for like half a dollar. This prices on American is very affordable by Americans but Nigerians are groaning on 50 cent per litre.

A loaf of bread could be about 30- 50 cent in Nigeria and people are groaning, but America could be from $1.2 to $6 dollar depending on the type and the poorest of the poor can afford it without tears as in Nigeria. Your type will shout how America is more expensive not considering that the prizes in America are quite affordable and not like worthless naira. Tinubu was created to destroy Nigeria economy kpatakpata

Theres not much to lose. I would advise you do some preliminary findings though. Join gabonese groups on facebook and seek information. Check their job boards, check school websites and mail the proprietors or connect to them on linkedin. Ask to know what prospects you have with your qualifications and experience.

Look out for other nigerians in Gabon or anyone who can receive you and show you around town for your first few weeks. Look for churhces there as well and connect. Finally, you should definitely have an exit strategy if things do not work out as planned.

This way your risk is calculated. Good luck

Op, if you're looking for further advice more than this you're not smart.

My advise is, check how tolerant they are to Nigerians, Kenya and South Africa is casted already for Nigerians, if they are hospitable and their exchange rate is good, please go. Make sure you have money to pay rent and feed for at least 2months before leaving. If you wanna go to Europe or America from there, it's easier than in Nigeria.

If you get a good private school teaching job in Nigeria or Federal teaching job you don't need slaving yourself in any African country. It does not worth it.
Europe/Canada/Australia/US! It is for me!

Many African countries are better >> than Nigeria

Gabon, Congo (Brazaville) are two of them.

You will be shocked. (Only corporate jobs might be hard for you).
