Thank you Bros! Please looking at the JUN 2038 and JAN 2042 which will you invest on and why?
Not trying to derail the thread.....
Note: Also good ideas are welcome from members!
Too many calculations....to find kudi no easy o cool

A bargain hunter will chase the 2031 & or 2034 to get a yield of 20% yearly as implied for the next 7 or 10 years. Those targeting cash flows at specific months may choose those that align with their desired month. Won't be surprised some long-term investors may be tempted to sell DS or other stocks to lock-in a fixed 20% income yearly.

What will be the value of that 20% in 7 or 10 years to come, it's almost certain that the time value of the money will be eroded looking at the trend. Every mallam with his kettle. embarassed cool

A true value investor wouldn't do 20% for 7 or 10 years because he/she is expected to put alternative investments into consideration and the most important question, what will be the value of the chosen investment and opportunity cost of letting the other go.

Individuals and Fund managers balance their portfolio somehow as no one is certain of the future.

For example, I understand FPI's bought 79% of the fat N1T FG bonds sold in Feb 2024. These were the 2031 & 2034 bond debuts. Definitely they made their calculations, took their risks and injected the $$$'s into NGN bonds with hope of profit grin.

For the fact that FPIs does it doesn't make it right, may be they believed exchange rate will be more when they want to repatriate at maturity. I sincerely doubt they based their projections based on that 20% alone for that long looking at the past trends.

The discussion is not about wrong or right. But about market opportunities and options.

Nigeria has a lot of untapped comparative advantages waiting to be tapped. Nigeria is an emerging market. If the anticipated growth scenario of unleashing growth occurs Nigeria should be earning far more forex than it currently earns with an unleashed GDP. In this scenario the stock market will grow exponentially or at least massively and the exchange rate will be stabilized like it happened for South Korea decades ago.

I can tell you for free that many rich Nigerians home or abroad made enough money from fraud to the extent that they don't need to bother about time value of money, the sources of money determines how the owner channels it, even elon, buffet n co are still doing equity. They have there reasons which is obvious.

You may be right I don't know. A lot do have their money in the NGX in the businesses they run (directly or indirectly) and many others like NSEMPA people have a chuck of their portfolio in NGX. See current NGX top investors in the attached picture grin

Even as small as I am, I can comfortably give 20% without loosing my sleep every year for that long in this Nigeria. If 20% is a big deal I shouldn't be in the stock market.
Nobody that is earning money legitimately as an entrepreneur will choose fixed income over equity. especially, 20% for that long.

You are definitely wrong on some of your assertions
We have many people even in this forum who are earning money legitimately and are into fixed income.
It is all about risk appetite and how individual decides to manage it.

2031 is at 20.3% yield but currently selling at N93. 40k but the investor will be paid N100 at maturity

2034 is at 20.5% yield but currently selling at N93. 67k but the investor will be paid N100 at maturity.

Compared to 2042 at a yield of 18.5% currently selling at N71. 47k but the investor will be paid N100 at maturity

Not everyone has time or competence to monitor companies and stockmarkets. They'll rather keep their money in fixed income instruments. And advisors always recommend a mix of instruments for various individuals to suit their temperament.

The compounded annualized return of NGX ASI in the last 15 years is not up to 20% per annum

At 20%, N1 million compounded for 10 years will grow to about N6.2 million.

The Retirement Savings Account value contributes the major percentage of the net worth of an average Nigerian. Unfortunately more than 80% of it are invested in fixed income instruments.

The beauty of having a guaranteed return from fixed income investments is that the investor can always the cash flow to buy more shares during bear markets and recessions when shares are ridiculously cheap

What is the impact of Asi on my portfolio it has very Little influence looking at the stocks that moves ASI up or down, ASI could be going down arithemethically while my holdings could be going up geometrically.

We have stocks that did over 500 last year but ASI didn't.

Consistency of the return is the Koko.

A 20% consistent return for the past 10 years is far better than a 100% return in year 1, 50% loss in year 2, 30% gain in year 3, 20% gain in year 4, 40% loss in year 5, 30% gain in year 6, 40% gain in year 7, 30% loss in year 8, 20% gain in year 9 and 35% loss in year 10.

This statement does not apply when APC is in government during the 10 yrs and naira moves from less than #200 to #1500 to a dollar
It is what I am seeing in my 10 yrs sukuk bond @ 13%.When I did it I thought it was a great option. Now I have reservations on long time fixed investment. I think it is better one goes for multiple TB of different months with the capital so that you can move the fund to any better investment when the need arises too

Nigeria is a hot bed when investing. The instability, geo-tension and the "Nigerianess" drives the madness on value erosion overtime. You must be really BIG to go long term.
Hence, I see reasons to the earlier submission questioning how the invested sum was gotten while still discounting the fact that legal money still sign-up long-term contract.

That is the essence of diversification, the consistent returns on your Sukuk can be invested in the stock market, real estate, dollar denominated investment, you can also borrow against the future earnings of the investment in order to harness other economic, business and investment opportunities

Most times we underestimate the power of consistent and predictable return on investment.

Investor A invested N1 million, made 100% in year 1, made a loss of 30% in year 2. At the end of year 2 the N1 million would have grown to N1. 4 million through compounding

Investor B, invested N1 million that grows at 20% per annum. At the end of year 2 the N1 million would have grown to N1. 44 million.

Imagine if this continues for another 10 years

but the compounding is just imaginary as it is not automatic. If you get your 20% paid, you are not automatically getting another 20% of that.

Hello bro,
Given the fundamental ratios on ground and the current price of ucap and nahco, which one will you prefer to invest in? And why?
Is it possible for ucap to come down to 16/18? And nahco to 25? Will the current pull back?

Good evening,

Please, is it a right conclusion that, Morrison was pump today, to 10% since a single deal traded the equity. Also, I noticed CAVERTON closing price of 1.75 sent by Morgan capital is less than its VWAP of 1.70 - overvalued?

The koko is don't lose money, the 20% return is also imaginary.

But there are fixed income mutual funds that have given a compounded annualized return of 15% for 10 years

Some years might be 18% another year 10%, another year 12%, but not a loss

Negative returns slows down the compounding
