Dear poster,
Please be very careful, you guys think you are talking to fools? You think you can ride on the citizens for too long?

You dare mention America as part of your narrative to placate and pander towards your evil doers?

Did you mention the social security and welfare the American government provides for it's citizens? What about the value of their currency and economy? The responsiveness and responsibility shown the every American?

I wish you and your family the pains in multiple abundance every Nigerian is going through.

Big fool.

Minimum wage is for poor people. Those who work as servers in restaurants or do menial jobs.

They can afford to pay for electricity monthly, but you’re saying the poor shouldn’t have access to electricity in Nigeria, even when Nigeria produces the gas that powers the generating plants?
Nah minimum wage is for low class not poor

The Tinubu government has just increased electricity cost for band A customers to N225 per KPH.

For context, customers in the US pay about the same cost per KPH (or cheaper) depending on the state you live in.

Energy analysts are explaining that Nigerians are willing to pay more if they have access to electricity.

Based on data from NerdWallet, the average monthly electricity cost in the US is about $137 which is about N178,000.

Are you willing to pay N178,000 monthly for electricity for a 24-hour supply?

Minimum wage folks should migrate to the forest what a country roasting her citizens.

From what I heard, the increment is only applicable to those on Band A.

Band A customers are those customers who receive power for a minimum of 20hrs per day.

Band A: 20 to 24 Hours supply

Band B: 16 to 20 Hours supply

Band C: 12 to 16 Hours supply

Band D: 8 to 12 Hours supply

Band E: 4 to 8 Hours supply

(not that I'm in support of the increment though, this is just to shed more light on the issue)
This band ish is a scam the discos use in overcharging their customers.

Let me explain. For instance, in Abuja, Area 1 to Area 11, and from Wuse Zone 1 to Zone 7, from Galadimawa to Apo and surrounding areas are all supposedly on Band A, but these areas I mentioned, some of them don't see up to 3 hours of light most days. Now, can you imagine that elite areas like Maitama, Asokoro, Wuse 2, Aso drive are also on same Band A, but they experience more than 20hrs of light per day.

The whole band of a thing is a scam. If they go ahead and implement the proposed tariff, it would only make customers to bypass their meter.

minimum wage in the u.s is about $1200 = about N1.5m per month. Are the government willing to pay this?

To be sincere I've given up on Nigeria, there are two problems; the government and the people. If the government changes are the people willing to change?

It is you that should be thinking, sir.

That $1 for a litre of water is 0.06% of the minimum wage in the US.

But a 75cl bottle of water in Nigeria is a whopping 0.5% of our minimum wage, and an average human needs at least 3 litres of water to stay healthy.

That means a Nigerian will spend 2% of his minimum wage to get the 3litres, while an American will spend just 0.18% to get the same 3 litres.

The bottom line is, our minimum wage is a pittance. Don't justify it by comparing prices of stuffs in US with Nigeria

I am on band A and I don't get the stated 20 hours per day,
It's a struggle to get 10 hours a day.
And now tariff is 225/kwh,

So you mean I would spend 10k and get less than 40units,

Let's look at the facts on ground.

House 1
Power load = 2000W
Average of 20hrs/day gives 600 hours in a 30 day calendar month.
Power consumption = 2kW * 600h = 1200kWh
Cost of power consumed = ₦225 * 1200 = ₦270,000

House 2
Power load = 2000W
Power is generated using a 2.5 kVA petrol generator. Running wattage is 2000W.
Fuel efficiency = 1.1litres/hour (15 litres in 14 hours at 50% load - generator will consume more if we increase the load but let us stick with this for the purpose of this comparison)
For House 2 to generate 600hrs in a month requires 660L of PMS.
At ₦560/litre, House 2 will spend a sum of ₦369,600 in an attempt to replicate power supply from DISCOs. Maintenance cost has not been factored in these calculations.

A lot of small scale businesses spend up to ₦178,000 monthly running petrol generators.

Power is not cheap!

Years ago when this epileptic power supply became an the norm,on the radio stations, many Nigerians were calling saying "Nigerians would pay,let them just give us constant power, nothing is moving in Nigeria because there is no regular power,Nigerians will pay".I was just laughing,in my mind these are clowns.
Just a few years or months later power improved, then tariffs went up.The same calibre of people started lamenting,"the bill is too much".
I then became angry because I knew that anyone saying Nigerians would pay any amount for regular power is either a child or mentally challenged.
Tariff should be affordable.
The most capitalist Nation in the world, the US,even there minimum wage earners can afford to pay tariff, even if it's 24,they just have to regulate their use when they are out.
Here even the fabled middle class would soon find it difficult to pay for power.
Imagine spending almost 200k a month just for electricity. Is that not madness!

You know that the story you wrote is a lie.

When was electricity 24hrs in Lagos or the southwest, and ppl were complaining about the bills?

Are you aware that many parts of Ondo state haven't had connection to electricity grid for over 15yrs?

There is no one that wants electricity 24/7 that can't get them

Nigerians want the impossible which is free/cheap and steady electricity... Electricity is luxury and we are too poor for it right now

We don't need electricity for development

There is absolutely no company you can start only when you have electricity 24/7 that u can't start now

How's electricity luxury? you have suffered so much you don't know what basic amenity means

Old boy! This thing dey pain you die o...lol...close eye take out a loan facility and do solar-inverter installation. With proper load management, you won't even switch to Nepa when there is light because your inverter setup will be serving you well.

I am an solar, and even with extravagant usage of my appliances (like TV being on for almost 15hrs a day, fridge on all through the day), I don't even consume up to 30% of my bank before solar power refills it. Most times, I forget there is even Nepa light. I am even too lazy to switch to Nepa light sef.

I think NGOs need to spring up to help Nigerians access solar energy affordably
