Old boy! This thing dey pain you die o...lol...close eye take out a loan facility and do solar-inverter installation. With proper load management, you won't even switch to Nepa when there is light because your inverter setup will be serving you well.

I am an solar, and even with extravagant usage of my appliances (like TV being on for almost 15hrs a day, fridge on all through the day), I don't even consume up to 30% of my bank before solar power refills it. Most times, I forget there is even Nepa light. I am even too lazy to switch to Nepa light sef.

I think NGOs need to spring up to help Nigerians access solar energy affordably

Seriously paining me boss,
It's just insane,

As regards this solar issue,

Most installers are not truthful is why I have been avoiding it,but as it seems right now,

I think I am ready

Do you have someone legit you can link me up with please?

Those using electricity tariff of developed nations such as the United States to justify tariff in Nigeria should also use the minimum wage in the US to set a standard for ours to follow. Minimum wage in the US is $1200 per month, in Canada it is $2000 (USD), in the UK it is £1950 ($2500). Is it a crime for minimum wage in Nigeria to be ₦1,000,000?

The Tinubu government has just increased electricity cost for band A customers to N225 per KPH.

For context, customers in the US pay about the same cost per KPH (or cheaper) depending on the state you live in.

Energy analysts are explaining that Nigerians are willing to pay more if they have access to electricity.

Based on data from NerdWallet, the average monthly electricity cost in the US is about $137 which is about N178,000.

Are you willing to pay N178,000 monthly for electricity for a 24-hour supply?

Do Ghanaians pay that much for theirs?

Exactly what you are explaining. Sadly, folks here have misunderstood you and are now attacking you. People are really angry with this insensitive government. Minimum wage should be at least 800k for the comparison with the US to be justifiable

Yes you're right. I think a lot of people misunderstood the post. The government and their handlers are claiming that Nigerians are willing to pay as much if they have access, so I am asking Nigerians if that's true

Let's look at the facts on ground.

House 1
Power load = 2000W
Average of 20hrs/day gives 600 hours in a 30 day calendar month.
Power consumption = 2kW * 600h = 1200kWh
Cost of power consumed = ₦225 * 1200 = ₦270,000

House 2
Power load = 2000W
Power is generated using a 2.5 kVA petrol generator. Running wattage is 2000W.
Fuel efficiency = 1.1litres/hour (15 litres in 14 hours at 50% load - generator will consume more if we increase the load but let us stick with this for the purpose of this comparison)
For House 2 to generate 600hrs in a month requires 660L of PMS.
At ₦560/litre, House 2 will spend a sum of ₦369,600 in an attempt to replicate power supply from DISCOs. Maintenance cost has not been factored in these calculations.

A lot of small scale businesses spend up to ₦178,000 monthly running petrol generators.

Power is not cheap!

Tinubu idiot, can you tell me filling station that sells fuel 560 in Nigeria ?

Just a few years or months later power improved, then tariffs went up.The same calibre of people started lamenting,"the bill is too much".
I then became angry because I knew that anyone saying Nigerians would pay any amount for regular power is either a child or mentally challenged.
Tariff should be affordable.
The most capitalist Nation in the world, the US,even there minimum wage earners can afford to pay tariff, even if it's 24,they just have to regulate their use when they are out.
Here even the fabled middle class would soon find it difficult to pay for power.

You do realize over 95 percent of Nigerian households make less than 300k a month ? You are not a realistic person at all to assume Nigerians are spending 397 thousand naira a month on electricity ....You also do realise that a vast Majority of users still remain unmetered ? You also realise Band A Band B is a ruse , no Nigerian home cam boast of 20 hours if electricity and do you realise you are a **Ron

At thag price, the average 3 bed house will spend well over 500k monthly, minimum. I know, because where I reside the tarrif is about 130. With that, I was spending (despite unplugging deep freezer, abandoning acs, only using fans) and average of 150k. Now imagine that the tariff will be 266 kwh.
Truth of the matter is that busineses will close. How will hotels, eateries, factories, schools etc operate? Busineses already struggling with high diesel cost? Do you know that the recent audit of a school and hotel business I saw the books, they all ran at heavy loss as all the income went to powering generators? They then wan to to add high electricity cost "join"?
Wonderfull how these guys think. This is the implication of electing people with no visible source of income, no factories, consultancies, industries etc into office. Wealthy people without any form of enterprise. People that have made billions through links to politics. That can award contracts worth bilions with a pen, make money without leaving their beds. They never know how busineses work, how they survive, how the average person makes end meet.
Anyway, people might take it lightly, not until they load 10k Nepa card and it last half a day.

Back to your second line, if the government change (which is akin to an elephant flying) the people will have little to no choice but to follow suit. It might hard at first but along the line, people will have no choice but to follow the established order.

In a normal svenerio of a serious country the government will first invest in the people before they can collect from the people. In Nigeria the government have squandered every opportunity to invest in the people over many year and now the government is broke and desperate. So they greedily go to collect from a desperate and starving people. In effect, they government will push the people further into poverty and end up destroying their economic well being.

Nigeria is not a real place and there's an abundance of idiats whose job is to defend government failures

You mean electricity should be for the rich only, like Cell Phones or even phones in general used to be in Nigeria?
Nigeria has always had access to steady power supply, the distribution companies only supply to those who can afford it.
My family house in Lagos is in Nicon Town, I also have a property in Nicon Town, I currently stay in my VGC residence during this my stay in the country and I haven't had less the 18hrs power, which is actually less than what I used to get back when I was here.
So yes, access to power is a fundamental human right BUT...... can you afford it?
My office at Oniru runs on not less than 24 A.Cs, you don't wanna know how much is spent on electricity monthly.

Of you had a power distribution company will you supply to customers who cannot pay?
