I already stated that fact. Palmer is Chelsea's PK taker and this is why Gallagher had to step in to remind Jackson who wanted to confront Palmer after the latter took the ball off Madueke and pushed him (Jackson).

What I am adding is that Palmer definitely knew that scoring that would also tie him with Haaland in the Golden Boot race.

I don't know what was going through his head but Chelsea fans don't care. All they cared about was to increase the scoreline and seal the game for the fear of comebacks.

I think other players do fear the same way.

That is not what happened. Madueke wanted to take it but Jackson approached him I guess. Palmer got up and took it from Madueke and Conor Gallagher (captain) had already stepped in telling them Palmer is their PK taker.
Jackson wanted Madueke to take it which is why after Palmer took it off Madueke, he wanted to protest but got pushed away by Palmer and Gallagher blocked his path to confront Palmer. Madueke also had to calm Jackson down.

After Palmer scored the penalty, Jackson just walked away. He didn't even bother celebrating the goal.

Not quite though. The first dispute was between Jackson and Madueke. Both of them wanted to take it and were fighting for the ball. Madueke then got a good of it and Palmer approaches with Gallagher to retrieve the ball from him. Jackson wasn't fighting for Madueke, he also wanted to take it. Saw the full video again this morning, it was a sorry sight.

What?? Comebacks?? From 5-0?? Okay, I know it's been a while Chelsea kept a cleansheet before yesterday but this Everton side didn't look like they could equalise 3 goals not to mention 4 or 5.

Anyway, Chelsea got their big win. Palmer continues being your main man and there was no comebacks. Lol

Okay, then missed a few details especially with respect to Jackson. His reaction and lunge forward towards Palmer after Palmer took the ball off Madueke was really really crazy.

Some interpreted it as "okay, since I am not taking it, why not madueke?"

Palmer had to push him and I was like... ouch! Gallagher had to take him away. Madueke didn't even face Palmer again. Omo... I was like "Forgiveness are you seeing this chaos?" Lol

It depends on what you describe as dazzle. Now in the game, the aim is multiple 10s on the pitch. Not your dazzling 10s but fast thinking 10s which includes De Bruyne.

Also, they contribute more to forward play. Think Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva. They are also good at playing multiple roles. Think Sergio Gomez and Rico Lewis.

It is no more a case where a dazzler and ball juggling player is the 10. No room for poets.

Finito.

Multiple 10s was used by Brazil from 1994 - 2010.

Rivaldo, Ronaldinho, Kaka, Juninho, Ricardinho, Ze Roberto, Robinho.

Italy also had Andrea Pirlo, Totti, De Rossi, Del Piero.

If you watched the All star charity match in 2004 you'll never compare 10s from the 1990s early 2000s to this de Bruyne generation..

the de Bruyne generation is an abomination...

You are not Chelsea fan so you can't think dat way.

Real kudos. That man is one of the brightest coaching talents we have in the country at Cadet and Junior football level. He is tactically sound. Coach of the Beyond Limits FA in the NNL and TCC. Also coached them to the Viareggio cup win. First African side to win that prestigious youth tournament in Italy and gave us good starlets like Onyebuchi Obasi already stepping up in Norway with Vålerenga and is fast grooming a lad that in my opinion will become one of the best Number 9s we might see emerge out of Nigeria soon in Arierhi Kparobo.

What is the Viareggio Cup❓
What makes it so prestigious ❓❓
What's the level of competition, professional clubs involved, etc ❓❓❓

Can you please educate me because I have only heard about it here, that's not to say it's not high quality.

So we can see why it's being used a excellence unit of measurement for a coach to be appointed for the national U17 team.

And this isn't the first time this is happening. Yesterday was just the most disturbing. I think Jackson and Madueke initially felt Palmer won't take it because he already had an hat trick. But he had to upon realising he was in contention for the golden boot.

There’s no need to dribble because you run. Players are more developed in every sense. You lose that player who’s different, who ‘breathes’; the playmaker who was slower even if he had sublime technique doesn’t get the opportunity to turn.

Simple, it is more difficult today than it was before for creative players to shine due to the advancement of the game and development of players.
Running replaced dribbling and you say it's better. Are we watching athletics or football?

It is more difficult now only because you are told there's no need to dribble BECAUSE you run ...i.e You are expected to run instead of dribble. You are expected to run instead of slowing down things (aka opportunity to turn)

Don't twist things. In this same "intense and speedy" football is where Neymars and Hazards made a name with their flair.

Dead that talk there is no space. There is only a dearth of players with flair and coaches who utilise them.
Absence of skillful players equals no space to dribble. Space wey we dey see all over the pitch. He talks as if the pitch is packed up like a junk yard

The context of the talk was how focus on pace, intensity and physicality has made magic and fantasy a less-prominent/alien characteristic.

"footballers do more but faster"
Do more what? Is it not that players are now focused on running...in/out of zones/channels. That is obviously why it follows with "There's no need to dribble because you run"

Lastly, the overall direction of the discourse by Thiago, which is a vent at modern football(MF), is a analysis of the impact of the dogmas of MF upon the soul of the game. This makes it very improbable that he is praising any of those dogmas.

To paraphrase:
"In today's game everyone is so concerned about running about so much so that no one spares to express themselves in their football"

Obviously not the whole 10 outfield players will/can be magical but it is draconian that MF is snuffing out the artist and no, it's not because it is harder. You know the examples of artists in current times. It is simply because coaches don't value it.

Argue it as a paradigm shift and not that whatever we have now is superior.
So Thiago Alcantara was even criticizing modern football but TheGoodJoe in his sly manner cherry picked the guy's statement Just to win argument. This is very shameful and dishonest behavior.

Thiago feels football is losing its "magic" and "fantasy" as the game is becoming more physically intense and faster.

"It’s taken up a different pace, rhythm: more accelerated, more physical," he said.

"The figure of the No. 10 has almost disappeared. We see less magic, less fantasy. Footballers do more but faster. There’s no need to dribble because you run

Ashey just like me, Thiago even hates modern football but TheGoodJoe deliberately and duplicituously cropped out the first paragraph of his statement and made it look like Thiago was praising modern football. And I was dismissing the guy due to the dishonesty of TheGoodJoe not knowing Thiago is on my side. Unbelievable

Seriously?? How have you missed a prestigious youth tournament in Itay held since 1949 which no African side has ever won until this year. One of the World renowned youth tourneys taking place every year.

Anyway, here is a teaser. Just browse the rest.

Thiago was complaining about the intensity, acceleration and physicality (close in gap) has caused the loss of the magic and fantasy. That is precisely my point the players today are faster and better than in the past. So those flicks and tricks that we used to classify as better won't work today.

I wanted to point that out but felt my comment will become too long.

Once Brazil goes back to playing multiple 10s they will be deadly..

In the past maybe from 2014 till 2022 I expected Brazil to always play Firmino as main 9 then Neymar, Coutinho or Douglas costa and Oscar or Willian or Ramires behind him.

But they didn't invite some of these players.

They are not faster and definitely not more effective..

It is the protection and cheating ( referees no longer give fouls for diving ) today's strikers get from referees that spoiling the game thanks to EPL and racist officiating..

A player runs with the ball and gets tackled and pushed to the ground and the referee and V.A.R don't see it as foul..

It’s not about that unless a dedicated spot taker gives you the ball or he’s not on the pitch you have no right to drag the ball

there was a time drogba and lampard fought for a penalty when lampard was the designated taker. It seems drogba was in the running for the golden boot even though lampard still took the penalty. Can't remember the season.
