I think it's only right to ask first if you could drop a VN.

I agree it's useless to use it if you don't know the disposition and ability of the person on the other end.

The person on the other end may be deaf and your VN is no good for such a person. Infact, it could annoy/embarass him.

You have to consider the fact that it's not everyone that are well educated . So they have the right to communicate the way that best suit their ability just the way you prefer to type . Some voices can be horrible but what matter most is the meggage. We should be considerate

Voice note is an essential feature of social media communication , you go feel the person feeling...and it fit this our present fast-pace lifestyle.
As dem talk, wen the purpose of a thing is not known, abuse is inevitable.Because few of your friends dey abuse the VN feature noh mean sey VN na the worst invention.

It could be annoying but it has its own advantage, and I think it should be used by mutual consent. The advantage of VN is that it saves you from stress of very lengthy write ups. It's not everyone that are good in composing writings, so voice notes helps you to understand their points better than when they write, but timing is the major issue here because some people will just send you voice notes at the wrong time

Most people send VN because they can't really type good English, some can't type at all.
I was helping an aboki fix some settings in his phone and stumbled on his WhatsApp, it was all voice notes.

Sounds like a personal issue. If you don't want voice notes, you can tell the person to type. Sometimes it might not be convenient for a person to type, that's why the voice note option is there. Just complaining over nothing.🙄

We just don't know where to draw the line.

Nigerians and their poverty pride. Even when you call some on whatsapp, they find it difficult to pick up. Saying you should call them on direct call with your airtime. Unnecessary pride.

In all the countries I have been, hardly will anyone call you directly with airtime. When there are many means to reach you. Is it not your voice that the person wants to hear? At least to communicate. The medium doesn't matter. Una inferiority complex don too much.

What works for you may not work for others. Use the features you prefer and let others use what's best for them. Each feature fits into peculiar circumstances. You don't always have to be myopic just because you feel a certain way about something. The VN feature isn't entirely a bad one. It works best in certain circumstances.

I have few peoppe on my WhatsApp and they are all people I am close to in one way or the other. They send me VNs and I send too. That is if my hands are busy (during work hours) or I have to explain better. I don'r have anyone whose voice irritates me like you have described in your opening post.

The issue is that initially they might be typing oh, then boom out of no where the person would drop a VN; now that's a communication problem, it changes the dynamic of the interaction entirely.

You don't know the nature of my surrounding if I could easily listen to it and reply you (sometimes I would try and make an effort to listen to it anyway and reply but even after trying multiple time I would just give up from the frog voice).

There are some things u want to discuss with someone and it will take a lot of time and brain neurons to compose and also to make it sound right such that the receiver does not 'interprete ur message out of context'.
