My eldest sister scored 543 when it was over 600 and Imo state had the highest cut off mark of 527 back then.

She passed the subsequent interview but was not given admission to her first choice of Queens College, Lagos nor her second choice FGC Ijanikin as my parents wanted her to remain in Lagos....dem post am go FGC Sokoto but her classmate from Kaduna who scored less than 450 got admitted into Queens College...my parents said thunder fire Federal Ministry of Education and refused the admission, got my sister enrolled in a day secondary school in Lagos 😂😂😂

I can tell you that the girl from Kaduna and Sokoto are far more intelligent than your elder sister because the girl from Sokoto and Kasuna are brandishing their true scores unlike your elder sister and nearly all SE states with fake results from miracle centres

Theno why those states that went throughthe brunt of the civil war have the highest cut-offs?

Shouldn't they have the lowest?

And how does the disparity explain quota?

What's stopping a yobe man from getting the score as an Anambra man?

What has Civil war got to do with cut off mark?

I never heard any nation that suffered civil war, suddenly became academically challenged or academically improved because of said war?

Or is there a school in the old Eastern region that ceased to exist after the civil war?

And if for whatever reasons many Easterner primary school children were reluctant to pursue secondary education after the civil war, then I suppose that when the unity school system was set up after the war, those from that region would have had lower cut off if it was difficult to occupy their allocated admission slots.

You said the program wad created after the civil war to create unity.

A region bore the brunt of the civil war.
Common sense would dictate that their socio- economic devt of the region would have been severely hampered including education.

If there is a quota to be given, it should be going to them.

How can the region that came out of the civil war with millions of their people dead, have the highest cut-off to enter "unity" schools?

What kind of unity is that?

Don't confuse yourself about what the quota means.

It simply means the basic federating units of the country (States) have dedicated slots in the existing unity schools.

So if the Eastern region had any academic challenge that affected performance or enrolment, then naturally their cut of will be low as it is a bar that is determined by how many slots need to be filled up.

So you fill up your slots with whatever cut off scores will guarantee enough students to participate in the unity programme.

Did the Eastern region have the highest cut off when the Unity School programme was commissioned by the Gowon regime?

The unity is that all corners of Nigeria will participate, and not for one corner to be lamenting every year that it is being cheated when nobody has taken from their own quota.

Anambra and Ondo should fill up their quota, while Zamfara does same.

The cut of marks for pupils seeking to get admission into Federal secondary schools recently released shows a disparity in cut off marks.

Why will someone from Anambra need to score as high as 139, and someone in Yobe need to score 2?

Or why will someone in Lagos need to score 133 and another from Kebbi need to score 9 to gain admission??

It was designed to encourage northeners to go to school. Despite that , they still don't attend school.......

That system need to be scraped ...... because one idiot from the north will use 30 from a jamb result to get admission to tertiary institution........

But her primary 6 classmate in the same primary school, who is from Kaduna State was given admission into Queens College with far lesser mark.

My family owns a school in Lagos and one of our former pupils whose state of origin is Abia state, made it into Queens College, Lagos.

Let me explain again.

If every state must have admissions for every school session, let's assume 20 per state and probably 30 for host state. You should expect that states with less applications to Queens college will have lower cutoff mark and states with high applications will have Higher cutoff. Imo could be one of the highest in term s of applications, you should naturally expect that the competition from your state is higher.

Your sister might have made the cutoff mark but still have others who have higher marks than her. If from our assumption the number of people who are ahead of her is more than 20, that means she doesn't qualify. But a person from another state with less marks than her, with lower applications can still get admission.

If you claim to be educationally disadvantaged for over 50 years despite all the resources and opportunities poured on you, then doesn’t it mean you are not interested in education?

Why not face another career direction instead of denying those interested in education the chance?

Tell me, if you have a relative who you have been pouring money on yet for a life path still delivering bad results, wouldn’t you tell them it’s time to stop, and focus your money on those interested?

Educationally less developed for more than half a century? Give me a break!

Richtaiwo:

But some people who claim they are not Nigerians will rather prefer all the slots be allocated to them to the detriment of educationally disadvantaged Nigerian states. Nigeria really dodged a big missile.

I don't agree.

On the contrary, the high cut off is due to numbers of applications or competition within a state.

The aim of the school is unity, numbers of slot for each state is same. The cutoff is always adjusted to get the number from each state the same.

yet states with lower scores have more intakes than those with high scores. Some state with the lowest scores don't even fill their quota despite encouraging requirement. But what manner policy which favours 10/100 over 50/100 yields better results
