Oh shit. Not again.

We've had this conversation time and again it's become exhausting.

Nevertheless, new perspectives are always welcome.

It's the property of the landlord, so the landlord should repair it.

Provided the tenant is living there as at the time of damage or fault to the pumping machine, then it's the responsibility of both landlord and tenant.

Oh what do you think it is? How do you people do your business? Excuse me, are you unaware that buildings will naturally deteriorate even in the absence of people living in it? So if a tenant wants to leave you will tell them to return the house to it's initial state before leaving? Will a car owner not use part of the money he makes to maintain his car? Will a poultry farmer not use part of the money he makes to maintain his farm? Will a school owner not use part of the money he makes to maintain the school, how is it right for the landlord to eat all his money and push the maintenance to the tenant? If any damage to the property happens due to the negligence or carelessness of the tenant, then the tenant pays, but a natural wear due to natural deterioration must be taken care of by the landlord.
We are talking about pumping machine not the building itself... Don't shift the goal post!!

It is the property of the Landlord and as such is his responsibility except it was stated in your tenancy agreement. The only thing you are responsible for is the money for fuel or electricity to pump the water.
Your rent is for you to use those things in his house. It's akin to a leaking roof or a cracked wall or a fence that fell, will you the tenant be the one to fix your leaky roof since you are the one leaving there

Since when did landlord become Government that provides amenities? Are you paying water rate to the landlord? Is he the one that spoilt it? Is water or electricity part of function of a building (like roof)?
You the resident are responsible for payments, repairs and reconnection of your water and electricity whether in Nigeria, U.S.A or Europe(no matter if you're tenant or landlord).

The duty of the landlord is to lay the water pipes and electrical wires in the house during building. Provision of said electricity or pipe borne water is beyond his jurisdiction.
Sinking of borehole, Installing of generators or water pumping machine is a grace offered to you by the landlord or neighbourhood based on the inadequacies of our governments.

If you think you're too wise, make sure you disconnect it before packing into the house and wait for public supply.

Rationally I think d tenant should
1) Tenant is d one using it
2) Perhaps they spoilt it
3) wait for d landlord u go buy water tire

Tenants.. no long story... Infact even if e spoil, tenants should gather money and buy new one...
If the landlord stays in the same compound, then he can contribute money but not alll
My landlord did. If I do it, I ll deduct the cost from next rent

Lol, property of landlord, but is being used by tenants... So if the tenants misuse it , it should still be landlord that will replace it because "It's the property of the landlord"...

We always don't like taking responsibility for our actions
So if I buy the pumping machine, that means when leaving thr compound I can carry it since it's mine now?

I keep wondering why this should be a debate. It's like asking, between a transport owner and passengers, who should fix the vehicle if it breaks down? It's sad that some landlords have this stupid mentality that your commitment ends in building a house, the rest is to collect rent, while tenants do the maintenance and everything else. Unfortunately too, in their greed they keep increasing rent.
Use a transport owner and the one driving the vehicle. This should be a fair comparison. Then the answer is obvious I guess.

Why should you deduct it from next rent? Are you doing it for the landlord or yourself?
Didn't you enter the house to see a functioning pumping machine?
Why the entitlement mentality?

We are not talking of buying a new one here...
We are talking of fixing the damaged existing one....
The landlord buys it, and the tenants maintains it...

If the landlord is not using the said pumping machine then the tenant takes responsibility 100%

As long as its repairs and the cost is not capital, then tenants should contribute. But if it is replacement, tenants can decide not to cos it is an asset to the landlord n not the tenants.
So if your WC needs replacement. Would u replace it or report it to the landlord?

What if it's not a submersible pump but those surface pumps?
Does the type of pump matter in who does the repair? 🤷
nope! I just used submersible for illustration since it's more common.

I'm sure the pumping machine/water supply is factored into the rent of the property. Part of that payment is to maintain the property. You have the receipt of purchase, you own it, you fix it. The landlord has a responsibility to keep some of the rental income for property maintenance.

If for any reason you expect tenants to pay for this, you don't leave it open to debate. Add a document to the rental agreement clearly stating the conditions and expectations. Do not assume automatic exception to your responsibility to repair what you own.

ElevationD:
If the landlord lives in the same house they should all contribute. If the landlord refuses to contribute, they should all stay without water. Some landlords cheat their tenants by making them fix the damaged things in the building. Tenants can also repair and deduct the cost when they pay the next rent.

If the landlord does not live in the same house, the tenants can either repair it or stay without water. That’s their business. There are uncountable tenants out there who are very wicked minded. They never want to fix things when they are damaged. They want the landlord to fix the pumping machine, which they operate and damage sometimes out of their own carelessness. Landlord no go kill himself.

I wonder how many of you reasons.. So if the spetic tank full, the land should pack it for you right??

When it comes to property, landlords take care of the capital repairs for instance, roof repair, fence repair, etc, while tenants take care of minor repairs. In this case, the beneficiaries of the pumping machine will fix it..
What is this one saying ? So is the tenants that will empty septic tank right? Am sure You are joking
Re: Between Landlord And Tenant Who Should Repair A Faulty Pumping Machine? by SheikhMuniru(m): 3:56pm On May 21
If landlord collected maintainance fee from the tenants, surely the landlord will repair it. In case otherwise, tenants will repair it with contribution from the landlord to support the tenants

So if the landlord provide a working machine...such is expected to work forever
What's exactly is rent for?
Would the rent of 2 houses in the same location with and without pumping machine be thesame
