When i tell my customers to stop eating refined foods and sugar what they usually ask me is, is it possible to live without these foods in Nigeria? So i am using myself as an example here. Since 2020, that is four years and counting, i have never tasted bread once. Since i was born, i am in my thirties now, i have never bought noodles once in my life. As a man in his 30s i have eaten noodles only thrice all my life and the last time i ate noodles was in 2015 when i was in auchi polytechnic. Since 2018, that is 6 years counting, i have never drank any carbonated drinks like coke, fanta and any form of packaged juice. Since i was born i have never eaten wheat swallow or semo once. Since 2022, two years and counting, i have never had breakfast before 12 noon. If i told you i don't remember how bourvita and milo taste, would you believe me? Thats because for over 20 years i have never tasted anything like bournvita or milo or those beverages you people call tea. Since 2020, 4 years and counting, I’ve only used natural sweeteners like honey, date syrup and date powder and have completely cut out artificial sweeteners. Since 2019, I haven’t touched any canned foods, corned beef, or canned fish. I only ate sausage once since 2019 in ghana because i had no other alternative. |

You must be very rich Eating what you need/want and not whatever is available is very difficult for average people |

Ogakokorokoman:How is this possible in Nigeria? Even if you didn't want to eat I'm sure your parents must have forced you to eat it at least once. Unless your parents also subscribed to your kind of diet or maybe you had high risk of diabetes. |

![]() By any standard i am not rich. By Nigerian standard, i am not close to being rich, in fact i am closer to being poor than rich. What most of us Nigerians do not understand is, it's far cheaper eating healthy than eating junks. For example, you that call yourself a poor or broke man has probably drank a cup of milo and bournvita and 5 slice of bread for breakfast this morning. Me, since morning i have only taken infused water, that's a jug of water that i sliced half left over carrot and quarter left over cucumber and i will be drinking this till night when i will dispose the cucumbers and carrots. My first meal of today will be 5 boiled eggs and one cucumber sliced. That egg meal will take me till evening when i will eat fufu and egusi soup for dinner. Can you compare me to you that will eat beverage in the morning, rice and meat for lunch and fufu and soup for dinner? Not to talk of the cokes, fanta that will come in between. Aint you obviously richer and spends than me |

illicit:isn't it ironic that you that drinks carbonated drinks, you have canned juice, canned geisha, different cups of beverages at home, you eat thrice or more daily. But me, i eat only once or twice daily, i eat only veges and fruits and cheap nuts, i do not take beverages or noodles or canned meat. I only eat whole food like rice, beans, fufu etc. Na you be rich man. |

Kobicove:what a typical kid will say, nobody is attempting to live forever, nobody has ever lived forever and nobody will live forever. I have worked in an FMC and met a lot of your types. Nobody will live forever until you are told one of your leg will have to be cut off to prevent the diabetes from spreading to other parts of your body. Nobody will live forever until your doctor tells you not to eat anything for three days to prevent your pre diabetes to becoming full blown diabetes. Nobody lives forever until doctors suggests chemo and other therapy for you. |

I tell my customers not to eat sugary stuffs and refined foods, something as simple as that but none of them always follow my instructions. but when they start getting sick and test show that they have pre or full blown diabetes and i tell them not to eat anything, i mean do not eat anything except infused water for three days, they will gladly do it ![]() That is Nigerians for you, kobicove is a special example of such Nigerians. They prefer firebrigade approach to simple prevention. |

I have guava tree at home, i have marijuana trees in five different buckets at home, i have lemon grass at home and a whole lot more. These are what i use as my daily tea. On a day i feel like taking something sweet, i add honey or date syrup or date powder. Apart from honey i make every other things up there by myself. Instead of noodles, i boil my yam and eat it plain white. On a day i have money or resources i make fresh tomatoes or cabbage sauce, with or without protein. Wheat is food for animals, i love my dog so much fhat i can't even feed her wigh wheat, instead of wheat and semo i eat eba and king fufu. Instead of buns and cakes and those fry fry, i would rather snack on bitter kola, cucumber, carrots etc. ------------------------------------------ As a man, since this year i have not taken alcohol more than five times. The only addiction i am battling for health sake is smoking. I do not smoke cigarettes but weed and i get my own weed from my own little weed farm somewhere in edo state. |

You are a rich guy. Wish nigerians were well-to-do, they would also select good nutrients food to consume. Your country is a failed state! By the way, you can't do without all these food you mentioned there. Indirectly, you maybe eating dem! Moderation is the key! |
| Re: For Men Only: Is This Possible? by Ogakokorokoman(op): 1:14pm On Dec 05, 2024 |
danvon:that was how i was brought up. My grand dad was a staunch local nutritionist. I do not have diabetes or pre or any underlying ailment. You too can do it, take charge of your diet today and you will enjoy your old age. |

I see some emphasis is on wheat and semo, i was born and bred in edo state, except now that things has changed, all my time growing up in edo state i never met a family that ate semo or wheat. in edo we eat akpu and eba, those are our primary swallow. It was when i started travelling i saw people eating wheat and semo swallow. Its common to see an adult from edo that has never tasted wheat and semo. In fact, in my village where i was born and bred, eba was a breakfast meal, the real deal was akpu, it was like an abomination or shame for men to eat eba for dinner while i was growing up. If a family is eating eba for dinner and a visitor comes in, we quickly hide the eba. I eat only whole meals. They are cheaper and far healthier and tastier. My diet is my doctor. |
| Re: For Men Only: Is This Possible? by Ogakokorokoman(op): 1:44pm On Dec 05, 2024 |
Love800:nothing concern failed state and your diet. You eat whatever you choose to eat. I eat cucumber and drink water to gain strength but you drank coke or fearless energy drink to gain energy, between me and you whos richer? You buy sugar to add to your tea but me i add my homemade date syrup, you are richer. You cook noodles, i boil potatoes for breakfast, you are obviously richer. You have a tin of milk, milo, bournvita that you drink every morning but me i boil guava leaves and lemon grass and drink every morning, arent you richer? You eat three times daily, i eat once or twice, you are richer. Eating healthy is far cheaper than eating junks. Eating healthy has nothing to do with being rich. Its a matter of choice and discipline. |

You expect a poor-man moulding blocks to eat cucumber and drink water, to eat home made date syrup, eat potatoes, to eat guava leaves and lemon grass water. Lol. Which energy he want take mould block or load cement? All these things you mentioned here to eat maybe expensive or not expensive. But the main thing is, its energy and belle-full stomach that a poor man is looking for. He does not care whether its nutritious! Ogakokorokoman: |
| Re: For Men Only: Is This Possible? by Ogakokorokoman(op): 2:13pm On Dec 05, 2024 |
Love800:you are still getting it wrong. I personally did this same work for years, in benin we call it legbuke, molding of blocks, building of houses and me i am a carpenter myself. What do most bricklayers eat in the morning before they start work, they eat bread and drink one big bottle of pepsi or any soft drink in the morning just to hold belle before the woman that sells proper food comes later in the day. If they sell food in the morning close to the site they eat proper food like eba, fufu or rice before they start work. ............................................. Poverty is not the reason bricklayers eat what they eat, its availability. Bricklayers that eat, bread and pepsi, if they can get cucumber and groundnuts and pure water to eat they would prefer cucumbers and groundnuts to bread and minerals. Check what they eat when the woman that sells food comes, they eat better than you, they buy fufu, rice or eba which is very healthy. You have no point please. |

Ogakokorokoman:5 boiled eggs cost 1,500, I don't how much 1 cucumber cost. You mentioned fufu and egusi but I thought you said you didn't eat swallow at all. |

You are 101% right, indeed your food is your health and your health is your life. For you are what you eat. I was once on BP drugs for months and never really achieved good BP reading until I was introduced to a nutritionist doctor on telegram by a friend of mine. The docs advice was very simple and direct. Avoid sugar from whatever sources and forms by all means, run very far away from seed oil,, avoid unnatural cabs and 90% of your health challenges will be solved. So I decided to give it a try. I ditched all forms of sugar, sugary stuffs, unnatural cabs and seed oil. I started walking out. I started eating more of organic foods, like eba, more fufu, egg, meat and fish, men and brethren after just about few days my BP came back to normal. Then one day I was so tired to fix some thing good and edible for myself, so I went out and got myself a big loaf of bread. That bread was the best in my area of Lagos at that time, I ate just the bread and drank water. I woke up the next morning, in fact I could not even sleep well in the night, so I managed until morning. Noticing some of those BP symptoms I used to get any time it was high, I decided to go check my BP in a chemist shop, men and brethren my BP had gone up to 182/110. Immediately I knew what the culprit was. BREAD. I quickly logged onto Google to find out how healthy bread is, and I was scared by what I saw. Many things but the first that stood out for me was that bread is not a healthy meal and that it can raise ones BP. Brethren I needed no angel to warn me to keep off from bread. Is been more than a year now I have stayed off bread, seed oil , artificial cabs, etc and I'm glad to announce to every one here to the Glory of Almighty God that my BP is normal and that I'm super healthy now. Now I eat more of Fufu, and I can eat it morning and night with any kind of soup. Again like the OP said. I eat two times daily. First food, 10 or 11am then the second and last one for the day is 5 or 6pm. I'm almost in my middle 40s now and I can tell you, I still feel now the way I felt when I was in my 20s. Sexually, strength, etc. Indeed YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT. Thank you. |

danvon:please point me to were i said i don't eat swallow and i will send you 50k instantly. Nobody will tell you not to eat fufu, fufu is one of the healthiest meal, its fermented and natural. Fermented foods are some of the healthiest foods on God's earth. The swallow i am against is wheat and semo swallow. Eba, fufu are good, just eat them in moderation and eat them with a lot of protein and you are good to go. |

Ogakokorokoman: Ogakokorokoman:When I read this - I read it as Since I was born I have never eaten wheat, swallow or semo once i consider pounded yam, wheat, eba, garri, amala, fufu as in the same 'swallow' category... That's why I wondered how it was possible to be born and raised in Nigeria and never eat swallow once. |

In my 30's I can't live like a 70 or 60 years old that is afraid to die. Next year's if things do not improve, I would eat a lot of spaghettis and semo (carbohydrate = glucose). |

Ogakokorokoman:1000 ways to die, you could be preventing this but another werey fit wait for you, am not saying is not good to eat healthy. But I feel when death come knocking all your healthy eating won't matter, people don't just die because of unhealthy eating, besides you are still young, if you are 70 we may understand |
