To be single is now the new cool and a relationship with the significant other is now seen as a financial burden and a form of stress. What started as a isolated event in South Korea and much of Europe were young people were not pair bond for the sake of family formation and to replace the aging population may soon be our reality, Nigeria since the 60s has enjoyed years of population boom but a bad economy, a literate population and social acceptance of contraceptives is making young people to critically think.

The dating culture here is opportunistic from a guys perspective, your sincerity, being chivalrous ,niceness can be a net negative if you plan to be serially committed to your significant other as the bad boys are winning and the lover boys are literally on their own. This is actually the reality: there is no benefit for a man being in a committed relationship. Especially in this part of the world, where the definition of love for a man is in the depth of his pocket.
Marriages and relationships are inherently commercial. Even our traditions sanctioned it so, reason we pay "bride price". And from there onwards, its toil and labour all his life for his wife and kids.
