In the west you are quoting your children's rights end when they are legal adults

So as a parent if I want to play your game, once you turn 18 you can leave the house and go and live on your own. That actually works for parents as they dont have to spend on college which is the most expensive part of education.

Of course if your parents play this game you will be here wailing about how they messed up your future.

My mum has trained all of us to that point where we don't get to ask her for anything, but cater for ourselves and she as a person still works and has a retirement plan that can take care of her even when she is old. Forget! that woman's retirement benefits will be enough for her and even extended family members. I believe the writer is just encouraging us to plan not to be burdens to our children. But not literally saying you shouldn't help in taking care of your parents when things get tough for them.

Nigerians are the most hypocritical creatures on earth I have seen. They want Nigeria to change but they don't want to change their retrogressive habits and culture.

The Wise and responsible parents don't expect anything from their kids because they know it is not their right. The kids can decide to support their parents out of goodwill. Many irresponsible parents bring out kids just to suffer them perpetually and people support this.
I have seen many parents with retirement plan and that is how it should be and not to depend on children. They didn't force the parents to be born.
Depending on kids and pushing them to crime is one of the ills of the society which is rampant in Nigeria. It's even written in the Bible that a good parent should leave inheritance down to the grandchildren.
