iconize:A narrative involves plots, subplots and characterization. But there are different types of narratives and that is where length comes in. A novel is the biggest form of narrative. The micro flash fiction is the smallest. The Old Man and The Sea by Ernest Hemingway is even bigger than Chike and The River, yet, it is still a novella. You should read up. |

hifaif: I don't care about your cowardly defensive rants.I've just few questions for you; ![]() 1) Have you agreed that Nwapa is the mother of modern African literature? If no, debunk it with facts. ![]() 2) Did you indirectly state that narrative length is the only determinant of a novel? ![]() 3) Tell us just one sane person who doesn't see C.A.R as a novel. |

iconize:Nwapa is not the mother of modern literature. Such title doesn't exist in literature. She only got published first. There were African-American writers before her. Narrative length is the only factor that distinguishes the novel from other familiar form of narratives. Since I can only tell you that literature scholars don't see C.A.R as a novel, maybe you should tell me any sane person who sees it as a novel. |

EroZA:I don't sing anthems, I only argue with facts. You can never find me arguing about things I know nothing about. I quoted you because you said you've never seen a south African seek asylum in Nigeria, which is a pure fallacy. Mandela, Thabo mbeki and many other blek south Africans sought asylum in Nigeria. |

iconize:Flora Nwapa is not the mother of modern African literature. Aidoo of Ghana wrote the first book that told a story from the viewpoint of women. Unfortunately, it was a play she wrote in 1965. Flora got published before her. That is the only difference. The woman who really started the idea of telling stories from an African woman's point of view was Ama Ata Aidoo of Ghana. For the other questions, go and read on the differences between the forms of narratives I gave earlier. Why are you finding it difficult to go and read up on these things? |

That's a Nigerian national wishful thinking....as I told you I now understand Nigerian culture of communicating,it is based on lies, fabrications and chest beating ...during those years VUYELWA and the late TALIBUNGA did not only visited nigeria, they visited many African countries using Tanzanian passports...the giant of lies please stop lying.. iconize: |

hifaif:Stop running from pillar to post. Nwapa wrote her first prose "Efuru" in 1966 and got internationally published, making her the first African woman to write a novel that was published in English language. Aidoo wrote her first literal work in 1965 and didn't get published. Its obvious she wrote for herself alone. ![]() Now contrast and compare. Your questions; I've surfed the internet without finding those literature scholars you said, they don't see C.A.R as a novel. 1) Tell us who considers narrative length as the only determinant of a novel except you ![]() 2) Tell us just one sane person who doesn't see C.A.R as a novel. 3) Tell us those literature scholars that doesn't see C.A.R as a novel. |

iconize:Please, stop embarrassing yourself. You don't know literature. Plays don't get published immediately they were written (at least then). They were first performed on stage. |

hifaif:What crap are you saying? Who got published first? Did I say plays get published before performing them? Nwapa got internationally published before her, simple and short. Nwapa attained international recognition before her. |
| Re: Why Africans Hate Nigerians So Much by Nobody: 5:42pm On Oct 07, 2014 |
iconize:You are obviously not a good reader. Didn't I say that the only difference is publication? And didn't you say that she wrote it for herself? |

hifaif:You're just running from pillar to post like a troubled ant. ![]() I was being sarcastic when I said she wrote for herself, go back and check you'll see a smiley attached to that sentence. In those days, for an African to get published in English language, do you think its easy? Why was Aidoo not published the same year she wrote and performed her play? One person attained international recognition before 1967 and the other attained international recognition after 1967. |

hifaif:Help myself by agreeing that goats are human beings even when they're not, and everybody sees them as goats? ![]() By the way, you've not told us where you were taught that narrative length is the only determinant of a novel. ![]() Your dumbness is clear! ![]() |
| Re: Why Africans Hate Nigerians So Much by Nobody: 5:59pm On Oct 07, 2014 |
iconize:Anyone with sense will know that I have been calm while you have been the one running around. Your smiley do not cover your insecurity on this matter. As a writer then, it was easier to get published then than now when we don't have a lot of traditional publishing outfits willing to take risk on new books. Plays hardly get published in the same year. Most playwrights then were more concerned with performing their plays in as many theatres as possible rather than publishing them. |

hifaif:Such an addled being! ![]() Running won't save you. Who got published first? Who gained international recognition first? Tell us where you were taught that narrative length is the only determinant of a novel. ![]() This is the definition of a novel, from Wikipedia; A novel is a long narrative, normally in prose, which describes fictional characters and events, usually in the form of a sequential story. But according to haifia(sic), a narrative can be called a novel only when it's lengthy. ![]() ![]() |
| Re: Why Africans Hate Nigerians So Much by iconize(m): 6:12pm On Oct 07, 2014 |
hifaif:Okay hifaif, but please tell us where you were taught that the length of a narrative is the only determinant of a novel. ![]() |
| Re: Why Africans Hate Nigerians So Much by Nobody: 6:15pm On Oct 07, 2014 |
iconize:Get more materials on the word NOVEL. I am not running. Why would I run? I am calm. It is you who is trembling. I still insist Chike and The River is not a novel. It is a short fiction and it is not a novel because it is shorter than a novel. |
| Re: Why Africans Hate Nigerians So Much by Nobody: 6:20pm On Oct 07, 2014 |
iconize:OK, tell us what you know about a novel beyond the surface definition given by Wikipedia. I mean what you feel a novel is. And you should (for your own good) ask Wiki to define a NOVELLA, SHORT STORY and SHORT FICTION and post your findings here (if you have the time) |
| Re: Why Africans Hate Nigerians So Much by iconize(m): 6:21pm On Oct 07, 2014 |
hifaif:You're not trembling yet you find seriousness in my jokes, like my joke about Kenyans ![]() Your reason for saying C.A.R is not a novel is because it's not lengthy, according to you. Your said the length of a narrative is the only factor that makes it a novel. ![]() Please kindly tell us where you were taught that the length of a narrative is the only determinant of a novel. ![]() |

EroZA:LOL, some of them even claim to have given us food during Apartheid. Do you remember your family receiving food parcels during Apartheid because I don't. Our mothers & fathers faced humiliation daily from their employers just to put food on the table. I remember visiting my mother's work place & she strictly instructed me not to sit at the white people's chairs or use their cutlery. She had her own spoon, cup & plate, stored away in tool shed outside of the main house. I was very young then, so I forgot about the not sitting on the chairs part & the white woman kept pushing me off the sofa. We, the South Africans are the ones who faced humiliation & terror daily, therefore we do not owe anybody a fvcking thing. Whose mothers & fathers were being tortured over nothing? Who lived through that? Who PHYSICALLY had to fight back? US. We grew up throwing bricks at the sight of military vehicles such as "Hippos" & "Mellow Yellows". No real childhoods. We grew up seeing our mothers & father stripped down and whipped with AK 47s. Young children being belted left, right & centre by the Apartheid police in my hometown. And now people expect us to be all "normal" & kumbaya. South Africans have no time to hate or envy ANY nation, the focus is on ourselves. We are still healing. We are too self-absorbed to pay attention to other African nations. Anybody who believes otherwise is delusional at best or is projecting their own hate on us. We simply don't give a damn. No envy or hate. Nada. Busy licking old wounds. End of story. *throws mic down* |
