You keep pushing the notion that oil is a curse. And I'll keep reminding you that for every Nigeria there is a Norway.

Not everyone pissed their opportunity away. Some countries took that oil and did something worthwhile with it.

160 million people pleading diminished responsibility. grin
Norway's got industries apart from oil, produces far more oil than we do, and just has 11 million people......Nigeria just imports the products of other industries.produces less oil than the UAE....and for a population approaching 160million.

Oil is still a curse.

The US has said Nigeria will divide come 2015 and you think the U S won't want to make that come true?

So by extension the govt is to be blamed for not trading with Rushia for arms.

Also simply means USA are conspirators too?

Hmmmm. But seriously there LOTS of countries that are willing to sell to us and dont give a damn about USA policies, why cant we patronize them.

Blaming USA for our whoas is getting stale, we are at war, we cant keep being the cry baby of the world.

It is also high time our government start investing heavily in Research and Development. Who says we cant build our own weapons?

South Africa has nuclear weapon, North Korea that is far poorer than Nigeria has good weapons development programs. What are we still waiting for

Money being spent on pilgrimage, should be diverted into Research and Development, In technology and medicine. Of what national benefit is the pilgrimage our government spends billions on, sending thousands of people to Mecca and Jerusalem.

We had better wake from our silly slumber

How can a country be so blessed and rich as Nigeria and we cant invest in weapons developments, then why do we have so many first class engineers in the first place?

I was at the Airforce Industries, Kaduna about 4 years ago. Honestly things are still archaic there. We are not at par with this decade at all.

USA is world power today, because they invested in research and development not sponsoring their people on pilgrimage to mecca and jerusalem.

NIGERIA!!! WAKE UP!!!

Haba!

Post advert today and ask nigerians to volunteer in weapons development and see how you will be flooded with ideas and men of great knowledge

It wont be easy as ABC, but it is not that difficult too if there is visionary leadership. FACT: India is already sending men to space and probes to the moon (they where the first to discover water on the moon) yet they got independence only 3 years ahead of Nigeria

First Nigeria will not scatter. Secondly, Jonathan is not transparent and excessively corrupt - nobody in his right mind make a deal with such person.

How can one justify smuggling money to South Africa to procure illegal arms when there legitimate ways to get it? Why is Jonathan afraid of the Front gate? Why must he always enter his good neighbour's house by jumping over the fence at the back-yard? Why is he exporting his Stealing-Is-Not-Corruption style of Government to other countries?

The Zoologist must be voted out before he sinks this nation with anarchy and corruption.
Legitimate ways of getting it includes the ones Americans are currently selling to you right? Bushmo like you!

No sir, oil is not a curse. It is a resource like any other. What counts is what you do with it.

The academic literature on the Dutch disease phenomenon has been around for a long time. Did Nigeria's decision makers do everything within their power to avoid repeating the mistakes of other 'resource cursed' countries? No. Did we the people hold them accountable for this? No.

You say the Norwegians diversified their economy, produce more oil and have fewer children. There is nothing preventing Nigeria from doing any of these things (although its too late now for some of them). You have generated an association or correlation in your mind between oil and economic collapse. Where is the causality there?

I love the way we keep pleading diminished responsibility. Our next excuse will be temporary insanity. angry

There are many countries Nigeria can comfortably and legitimately buy arms from through official channels. Majority of the arms the Nigerian armed forces are using today were bought that way. Even companies in South Africa.

So why did Jonathan use a pastor's jet in smuggling money through back-channels to South Africa? Why tarnish the Gospel of Christ by hiding behind the Missions?

The are legal means to buy arms - and Jonathan is exploiting the back-channels. Call him to order before he end up patronizing Al-Quada and other Rogue Organization/Countries.

When U.S. sent delegates to advice Nigeria on BH problem, they discovered;
- how corruptiion have eaten into the fabric of Nigeria.
- how Nigerian officials are too incompetent to do anything.
- how unstable the political situation is.
- how lawless Nigeria is.

And probably concluded Nigeria is a rogue state. Thus selling weapons to Nigeria is like selling weapons to criminals.

Re: Nigerian Ambassador Blasts US Refusal To Sell Arms by dvee2: 9:14am On Nov 12, 2014
I AM NOT IN SUPPORT OF USA NOT SELLING ARMS TO NIGERIA, HOWEVER I AGREE WITH THEM THAT OUR SOLDIERS COMMIT HUMAN RIGHT VIOLATIONS EVERY WHERE THEY GO ON A MISSION IN NIGERIA. YOU DONT HAVE TO LOOK AT THE NORTH ONLY TO COME TO A CONCLUSION. REMEMBER ZAKI BIAM, REMEMBER NIGER DELTA - ODI. THERE WAS A VIDEO IN CIRCULATION ON THE NET DURING THE NIGER DELTA MILITANCY WHERE TWO BROTHERS WERE SLAUGHTERED IN COLD BLOOD BY OUR MILITARY. AT THAT TIME MOST PEOPLE CONDEMN THE ACT AS GROSS VIOLATION OF THEIR FUNDAMENTAL HUMAN RIGHT BY NIGERIAN SOLDIERS. THESE SAME PEOPLE ARE NOW SAYING THERE IS NO VIOLATION BECAUSE THEIR REGION IS NOT INVOLVE IN THE CURRENT FRACAS.
SAME IN PLATEAU STATE DURING THE JOS CRISIS, INNOCENT PEOPLE WHERE MURDERED BY OUR MILITARY.

Sir, I am not an Atheist.
There is simply no reason why government should be sponsoring pilgrimage. I agree with you that the other areas of government wastage shld be addressed.
Even Islam does not force pilgrimage on faithfuls, let rich believers help their brethren that want to go on pilgrimage and Allah will bless them.

isn't it shameful enough that we have to rely on America for weaponry?

it still boils down to a rotten educational sector.

abi are weapons designed and manufactured by wizards?

why can't we manufacture and design ours?

America has the right to sell weapons to who it deems fit......

like the other guy said why can't we buy from Russia or China?

as always Nigeria remains a nation of consumers.
Re: Nigerian Ambassador Blasts US Refusal To Sell Arms by ZUBY77(m): 9:19am On Nov 12, 2014
The United States laws prohibits the sale of Weapons to countries with confirmed human rights misconduct.

They are very clear on that. Don't blame them.
That is one reason we must embrace some countries such as Iran, Russia and China. Forget about the bad names the West gave them, the end story is that they are surviving on their own.

In the United Nations security meeting, we must not put all our eggs in one basket. We must stand semi-neutral like the Chinese.
We must not be in a haste to support invasion of any nation.
We must not follow the countries that can defend themselves properly because they will just go to their Parliament and vote to abandon you in the last minute.
We saw that with ebola Zmapp and weapons.

This is why I maintained that we must find out what works for us and do it instead of trying to copy other people. Unfortunately people like us who can come up with such ideas are relegated to the background because we don't have millions to give as bribe to the top corrupt officials.

Remember what I said: We must find out what works for us... Both in health, administration, sports etc.. Every sector.
Re: Nigerian Ambassador Blasts US Refusal To Sell Arms by jireh250: 9:19am On Nov 12, 2014
This reminds me of their refusal to assist with Zmapp...God will always come sure for Nigeria, changing the Ebola story from shame to glory on CNN, such that America asked us how we were able to curb it...please let's look elsewhere.

In our war against biafra, we relied on Britain to send us weapons, Even though they colonized us, they disappointed us. So many years later, we are still talking about who to send us arms. We have a military university NDA. After how many years of establishment of that institution, we are still looking for where to get arms, when even India can display home-made artillery weapons that stun the world. What a shame!
