OK then

Well the male gender have been respected because they are males grin

100% agree people ought to earn respect

Funnily, I do not subscribe to giving a gender an edge or the quota system.

Give everyone equal opportunities and let the best stand out.

What I will also not agree with is not letting a gender have the opportunity to prove their betterness or worseness grin

Now I think I should author a dictionary tongue

Lol @authoring a dictionary.

First of all, women in countries where there is equality contribute a lot to the economy; some more than men.
Or do you want to tell me that every man contributes more to the economy than I do?

Secondly, opinions like this are one of reasons why women decided that it is not enough and dangerous to be only responsible for the home, house chores and children. In your post, you are trying to show how much more men contribute to economy and by doing so you try to prove that contributions to economy are more important than female contributions to the family front, which is why you think that men are better and deserve something women don't. This is ONE of the reasons why feminism emerged.

If you had had more respect for female traditional roles and had not considered traditionally male jobs superior and use them to establish a power imbalance and abuse it, then fewer women would have wanted to leave traditional roles.

You want women to stick to traditional roles BUT you disrespect them if they do.

Well done carefreewannabe. I just could not ignore this post. I have read many posts from men in NL encouraging women to stick to their traditional role. Then in another post you see them asking what have women invented or contributed to society.

The People who even invented most things in the world today believe in gender equality while the African man who have not developed much suddenly thinks he is superior to the African woman. The situation becomes worse when you then realise that the same African man that thinks he is superior does not have any invention to his name. Apparently he is superior to a woman because the person that invented whatever is the same sex as him. Empty vessels indeed makes the loudest noise.

While growing up, did our father's open doors for women, carry heavy bags etc etc.?
Did your father, you mean... wink

And if a man needs help in these areas, don't you expect a woman to?
Unfortunately I don't see/hear men complaining about their doors not being opened for them, or their bags not being carried for them, or a woman not holding their hand to cross a busy stretch of road.

And hey, what's that bit about a man needing help before a woman can give it?
The women who need chivalrous gestures - their doors being opened and heavy bags carried for them, are they handicapped or less privileged?

PS:
Like I asked the other - as a feminist yourself, which of those campaigns do you support and are actively a part of?
Also, which of them did you have a knowledge of before this thread?

I actually ignored that comment by carefree because it was utterly clueless and a desperate attempt at throwing weak arguments when she has been cornered, as is usual of course.

no married woman in nigeria can claim to be a feminist - that is fraudulent as far as the movement goes. your feminism should have paid your brideprice. you cannot enjoy the perks that come with patriarchy & then claim feminism on the other end of the stick. the guy that married you was trained & got educated like you were.....

Pick, these quotes from that link of yours got my attention most of all.

As a female (and I guess a really bad feminist) I am
totally appalled at the video. I make as much or
more than my male co-workers, and have since
roughly 1995/1996, so I also don't "get" the pay gap
thing at ALL. I HAVE, however, seen females in jobs
such as heavy lifting, who can only do 1/2 the work
of their male counterparts, somehow think they're
entitled to be paid the same. Half the work, half the
pay, pretty logical to me, but then again, I've always
been treated with the utmost respect at my jobs, I
simply can't relate to them at all.
Hexxuss

yeah ive never seen any examples of actual wage
gap, i worked in concrete this summer and the
highest paid employee was female, because she
had the most experience, worked for the
company longer than anyone else and was the
fastest and best at the job. she made 3 an hour
more than the highest paid male and a full 10
dollars an hour more than me. my dad works for
a chemical processing company and his shift
engineer is female, she clears at least 75k a year
more than him, my moms a teacher and she
makes exactly the same as every other equally
educated teachers, less than the male principle
but more than the males (and females) with only
a bachelor degree.

Secondly,the daughter will get married n leave,d son stays..so who btwn d 2 do u expect t be d primary beneficiary.
In matrilineal societies,d situation is d opposite.
Clear?
Was it a perfect system...No
But wat system is...important tin is each party was protected.

Oh really?

The sons stay? And the daughters go?

Well, for your information, I am the one in MY family along with an uncle who takes care of our elders THE MOST.

So what does it mean, the daughters go and the sons stay?

And IF the daughter inherits what her mother inherits, why is there a difference made between sons and daughters?
The daughters have to share with mummy but the sons get their own share?

I don't have friends who blame their failures on racism but I see such people on NL every day.

3. Nope, men are fair creatures we are also creatures of habit. If a man sees good work he acknowledges it and expects more good work, if he sees shitty production he remembers that as well and comes to expect from source. Problem is women majorly produce shittiness. Only a few women are truly competent and we respect them for that. Notable among your ilk: Margaret Thatcher, Dora Akunyili, two woemn who didn't need feminism.

Men are fair creatures and women majorly produce shittiness.
And after you have the audacity to generalize in such a way, you will be the one who will fight feminism.

1. Value, ratio, proportion.
2. We are the vanguards of society. Every man is/should be the lord of his home. When in the home gender roles should, for the sake of order and sanity, be adhered to. Aggression gives an edge in competition. No man on earth apportioned testoterone and oestrogen in the proportion that exists today. We understood the game and played it to perfection. If you're ever opportuned to meet Mother Nature let her know how you feel about this injustice.

3. We respect it and value it even and understand that it's important for a healthy, functional society. Male privilege is what it is because of male responsibility. If more women can take on these responsibilities I assure you they'd be given as much respect as men, haven't you heard of women with chieftaincy titles? However, when women want these privileges without the responsibilities you see such phenomena as nairaland being inundated with gender equality and feminism threads.

4. Speak for yourself. I respect my mothers and grandmothers. They were strong grin women.

Nigeria, a healthy, functional society. grin grin grin

Male-dominated but far from sanity. grin grin grin
