A NEW ERA 2007-2014



On May 29 2007, Akwa Ibom State recorded a major milestone in her short but eventful history.This was the assumption of office of Chief Dr Godswill Obot Akpabio as the third democratically elected governor of Akwa Ibom State. After more than six eventful years in the saddle, Governor Akpabio, has through rare vision, brought to bear what is today regarded as the uncommon transformation of the state. Below are some highlights.

1. Free, Compulsory and qualitative education
2. Free health care for children, expectant mothers and the elderly
3. 28 new bridges linking communities
4. Completed phase 1 of Ibom International Airport, construction of new International terminal building and second runway
5. Over 320 new roads constructed
6. Five new flyovers
7. An ultra-modern Governor’s Lodge
8. West Africa’s first e-library
9. First in Africa underground drainage system
10. Five new general hospitals
11. A brand new specialist hospital and referral centre
12. Completed the 191 megawatt Ibom Power Plant
13. Gas processing plant with 69 km of gas pipeline
14. Comprehensive rural electrification scheme which has linked over 1,600 communities to the national grid, making the State to achieve 87% electricity coverage
15. World class Tropicana Business and Entertainment centre; 250 bedrooms 5 star hotel; shopping mall, Cineplex, conference centre, wet and Dry Park.
16. Training and empowerment of over 4,000 youths with N500,000 each under the Integrated Farmers’ Scheme
17. Improved workers’ welfare and payment of N21,000 minimum wage
18. Effective security coverage and the launching of Operation Thunder and the Quick Response Squad
19. State-of –the-art banquet hall at the Government House
20. A brand new Federal prison and correctional centre
21. Over 4,000 rural development projects in the 31 LGAs
22. Engagement of 2,060 women and youths under the newly launched Green Brigade programme
23. Training and empowerment of 4,500 women with the sum of N250,000 each for commercial agriculture under the Women Agro-Empowerment Development Programme in agriculture project (WAEDEP)
24. Construction of 30,000 capacity ultra-modern Olympic size stadium in Uyo
25. Construction of the third ring road with flyovers in Uyo
26. 2000 units housing estates in the three senatorial districts.
27 31 number security estates of 412 units in the 31 LGAs.

Even though the list is full of fluffs and uncompleted projects, he did not list any new school/s so why are the foolish supporters on NL screaming and shouting like little babies and even calling me a lair.. abi you you people built the schools wey the man no build ne or akpabio forgot to list schools in achievements...?

All these pictures you have been uploading doesn't show the location. Anybody can wake up and snap some slum in his or her neighbourhood and claim that it is in Lagos or other any other state. Can u provide proof of the locations of these pictures.

NB: before u drag me into ur diatribe note that i'm from Anambra State but 'm very interested in what the op is posting coz in Rivers State people say Amaechi did nothing in his 7 years compared to Akpabio but if the pictures of those school which the OP uploaded are indeed true then i pity Akwa Ibom people coz they are worse off than their Abia State counterparts.

I have lived in Akwa Ibom; believe me when I tell you that these people are satisfied and comfortable with the current unemployment in the state, lack of infrastructures, class rooms, hospitals and lack of industries. Please just leave them. They're always quick to pock nose into SW affairs and yet will not tolerate same for their own state governor. They will obsess 24/7 about the affairs of the Yoruba and focus all their attention on the leaders/affair of SW States and now they are whining. just leave them abeg

You've just highlighted the reason why @Arresa opened a thread like this.

Apart from Roads (That everyone is so quick to point out and the pics everywhere online) nothing much seems to be happening in that state apart from one large General Hospital, the Stadium, Ibom Tropicana and other singular projects.

The largest State budget in Nigeria should produce a far larger effect than that.

If Billions of dollars has been pumped into an economy consisting of 4-5 million inhabitants, it should be obvious in terms of money in circulation. People should be flocking in that direction in search of Jobs.

Yes, I say it emphatically: Ogun is far more developing than Akwa ibom. I used the word 'developing@ because no state in Nigeria is developed, may be except lagos and ph. Hahahaha you mentioned Bayelsa (Yenagoa). Are you kidding me? The same Bayelsa I served? Which criteria do you use to rank development? Compare these states you have mentioned to ogun in terms of industrialization, agribusiness, mass-housing investment, real time capital investment . Ogun State has the highest number of universities in Nigeria. How many universities do you have in your state? Lots of job opportunities in Ogun than these states you mentioned. Akwa Ibom is the last place on earth you will want to go and find job except may be you're a politician.

Yes, i would rather live in a stone age state that is industrially developed than in a state where the governor has misplaced his priorities. I'll rather stay in a stone age state with massive construction activities going on than in a state where the governor built an uneconomic entertainment centre that was obviously not part of his people's immediate priorities. I'll rather live in a stone age state with a proactive and global thinking governor that is building infrastructures than a jamboree governor building monuments and prefer the easier and superficial road to development; the one that gives us something to gawk at, praise and even celebrate with a vanity fair.

I use to be in awe wenever they abuse the southwest and I use to ask my self is onitsha nt the same onitsha have visited,is enugu not the same enugu have visited?.infact I did my 2007 utme in a school (ave or sancta Maria dere abt in oji river side ),honestly I will try and make my national youthservice to the east and I promise nairaland is going to be filled with dirty pics abt the eastern part of the country.
