there is no cause for fear. u still have enough time, COE issuance is
quick and SVP usually takes about 2wks if u go for medicals before applying.

Good on you bro! Well, like I rightly said earlier, experience is the key thing here. If you are IT inclined, you could explore that area as well.
Of course, oil and gas etc. are good sectors you could explore.
What is your area of strength in Telco?

I worked as a radio and network engineer installing radios and connecting banks branches to their headquarters for a year. i have spent the last 6 years doing core network engineering (Mobile Switching Centre core engineer) interconnecting various network providers, integrating new network elements (BSCs, RNC and Node B) to MSCs. I have attended trainings on packet switching in a mobile environment (Serving GPRS support Nodes, Gateway GPRS support nodes). I have also done a bit of network dimensioning and planning to establish network capacity requirements and network performance analysis with respect to Key Performance Index measurement. What Certification would you advise me to get. What equipment vendors are popular in the Australia telecoms industry.

Yes, It is possible to do courses in the University or Tafe and pay at subsidised rates as PR holder. Australia is a country where emphasis is not much on certifications but rather your experience in your profession. However, if you could lay your hands on any basic certifications/trainings (CCNA,PMP,etc) before you arrive will be better otherwise you might end up paying huge amount if you were to do some of these trainings here. Again, what you need mostly is your experience. Even with your experience, you will still need to crack the nut of local experience here. Employers here don't joke with that.

As per the Telco industry, well I must tell you the reality here at the moment. It is not all that big because the population of Australia is about 24million, so you do the maths. And sadly enough, it is flooded and highly competitive. Sometimes, It takes highlevel of networking to breakthrough. You will be competing with mostly Indians, Srilankans,Pakistanis and Bangladesh professionals. And these people already have insiders who can easily refer them. Employers sometimes prefer that because they don't want to waste time in recruiting right candidates.

Check the major job websites (seek.com.au and indeed.com.au) for advertised jobs and start tailoring your CV to skills set required. You will need to work hard on your CVs. Nigerian CV's style doesn't work here as such. Emphasis is mainly on what you have done and what you can do.
You need to also prepare your mind to stay in the cities such as Sydney,Melbourne,Perth and Brisbane if you really want Telco job.

Wishing you goodluck in your relocation and job search.

PLEASE future don,i havent done medical yet...AND i submitted my application since 20th November.I m still waiting for that, but nothing yet.

I have another issue bothering me...i submitted my student visa application together with the recommendation letter from my working place.unfortunately,i lost the job recently because of minor issue...my question is ...would that have any negative effect on my visa application?

You should be contacted this week hopefully for medical request - I assumed you applied for 574 or 573. You shouldn't be too worried if your resumption date is not around the corner.

As for the recommendation letter, you do not have any reason to be worried since you are applying for a student visa. I can bet my ATM card (with pin) grin that there wouldn't be any concern about it, again, assuming you applied under the SVP category.

i chose to start afresh because of the demeaning nature of my university (i hated d sch frm day one), a new start will enlarge my horizon n increase my exposure on handling acada work in a more matured manner. Bou this app tingy, how do i go bou it cos am a bit confused on the steps to take. My sponsor is an australian citizen.

It's stated on the immigration website that to avoid delays medicals could be done before visa lodgement, the medicals lapse for a year if I'm not wrong.
Did mine today couple of hours ago @ Dr Fatayi Williams clinic, pretty cool and fast, easy afterwards referred to St Nicholas 10mins behind the streets for X-ray, took less than 10mins... I'll suggest it be done if January or February is the applicants prospective date.

You probably got him wrong, that's definitely annual emolument. 55k per annum or 5.5k per month sounds more like it. Btw why are you interested in how much he earns?

You must have a very deep pocket to be considering both programs at the same time, looking at your situation, your capital outlay would be in the region of $150k at least. Back to your question, between Melbourne and Canberra - Canberra is their capital territory, a civil service city more of while Melbourne is a commercial hub second only to Sydney. I will choose Melbourne over Canberra anytime.

Sincerely, I would say you have an impressive experience in RF,RAN and CORE. However, it is unfortunate that much is not happening at the moment in these areas. You can check the major jobsites as suggested ealier on to confirm this.

I would advise you to get skills in the area of Transmission,IP/MPLS,Fibre Planning,Splicing and FTTH installation, so as to be competitive and not keep on searching. Also think more of Networking and Network administration.

You can google the websites of the major players in Telco such as Telstra,Optus,Vodafone and NBNco. There are other vendors which you can also check such as Ericsson,Huawei,Alcatel,Nokia-Siemen,Tellabs,Kordia, Downer,Visionstream etc.

Above all, have an optimistic view as you plan your journey. Do have an open mind to start from little beginning and also commit things unto God's hand. He will direct your path.

Are you feigning ignorance of the cost implications of your proposed courses? I based my estimate on the probable tuition costs of both programs, living costs for 18months at least, and child care costs.

As for medicals you can do your medicals while waiting for COE and eventual visa application, I guessed you are targeting February, though your program may qualify for SVP, but the truth is that the recent extension of SVP to Advanced Diploma level programs means that a lot more applications will be ahead of you on the queue.

If you are thinking February and still waiting for COE at this time, hmmm, means that you are already behind schedule. FYI, Australians enjoy a lot of Public holidays around December/January and this apply to their foreign missions/embassies abroad.

Hello All,

My undergrad is Statistics, Masters is Mgt n Finance. I added d masters not because i thot it relevant buh cos u never know.
Now, anyone would have thot my Statistics is highly relevant to the Statistican ANZCO requirement, hence requiring me to have only one year work experience, but to my utmost surprise my masters (Mgt n Fin) was the one assessed as highly relevant. In thier words "Management and Finance underpinned by Statistics is highly relevant, with at least 2years highly relevant work experience."

So i sent an email to clarify the above statement, dey replied that my Masters is the one dt is highly relevant thereby knocking off my pre masters work experience hence reducing my 5 yrs for DIBP.
But then by January 2015 i would be 5 yrs again regardless of the pre masters work.

My question is becos my current job (Statistical Data Analyst) that will make it 5 yrs again in Jan is not the one spelt out on the assessment result but yet related, will i still be able to claim 5yrs for DIBP by adding an updated reference letter and payslips?
