Hello house, Can I travel to USA with cash of $4000 and cash of #1m naira,? Dollar rate is high @ the moment ,I was lucky to get PTA of $4k.
If I tell the CBP officer that I have cash of $4k and cash of #1m will that be a problem? My POE is JFK. Urgent response pls.
Instead of 1M cash, put the money in your account and print statement, don't carry that much cash please. I would have said convert the naira to dolls, but the rate is bad. Please someone else should help out.

Last time I tried changing NAIRA Abroad it was refused.( most pple only accept dollar, pounds, yen, rand euro, and a few others)
Best to travel with your bank statement that's less than 24 hrs old ie print d day before for a morning flight or on the morning for your night flight.
Have the complimentary card of your account officer with her signature on the back.(attached to it)
Then write a letter to d bank to activate your ATM in the USA and hold a copy of the one the bank stamped received on.
Saw a new policy CBN issued, you need written consent for ur card to be used abroad, donno if it's taken effect.
With this u said be covered.

Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 2 by lalavita: 12:43am On Mar 07, 2015
It will be very difficult for you to change Naira to Dollar in the US. Even if you eventually find someone willing to change, the rate will not be better than what you get in Nigeria. Given the current socioeconomic situation in Nigeria, it doesnt look like the rate will improve this month or next. You also do not want to be stuck in the US without enough US dollars to pay your bills because $4k is inadequate.

As others suggested, you either cut your losses and change the money before leaving or keep it in your account and carry your bank statement and ATM card.

Are you for real? What will you then do with the Naira? That's a bit desperate in my opinion. I think you should take this advise and get a Mastercard or visa card linked to the account..

Hello House,

I have just joined NL cos of this very educative thread. I had my baby already and we are looking to go back home. I stumbled on this thread when I was searching for info on how to apply for the Nigerian visa for baby. I got some really useful tips and have put in the application already. Now my issue is with Delta and travelling back home.

I have just called the Delta Int Line and was told that I have to pay $4750 for a one way ticket for babys seat. There is no discount. The alternative is to pay $435 and put baby on my lap. For a 13hr journey

I have read stuff here on Delta and how they are not very baby friendly but can anyone who has gone back share how convinient it was to put baby on the lap for the whole of the journey. I am yet to pay as I am still very confused. And Will I be allowed to go in with car seat? To keep baby strapped for take off & landing? IF I get a bassinet, how does that work with keeping baby on laps?? My seat is a premium economy one. Pls I need advice ASAP as travel date is close. Thank you all in advance.

Madam,
If it were me, the money has helped me decide sef... I can't speak for Delta but I took BA and I didn't think twice about baby on my lap. Luckily I had a lovely passenger beside me and a bassinet.
This time my hubby will be coming as I can't travel with my toddler and infant.
All the best!

Lol, that is what we are all going to do, carry our babies on our lap. Request for a bassinet on time , so that the baby can nap on the bassinet. After all newborns are always sleeping. Sorry I don't have better mews, good luck

An average doctor is quoting 5k while an average hospital is quoting about same...this excludes all other fees. I'm thinking of paying all those Agents to help me look for, but that should not be heard with a wonderful e-family like this. grin I have paid for my flight but still don't have a hospital. please help with suggestions oo. I suggest getting your hospital and doctors papers and costs together,
Along with receipts for anything that you pay up front.
Then notify the visa office with copies showing how you will pay.

How do I get the US embassy email in lagos or telephone number to notify them after putting together all my papers.

Search for Heliano here on NL, open her profile, click on send Heliano an E-mail, when she replies that automated mail, you can tell her what you want. Friday close, means you don't have correspondence from the hospital and doctor ? Or you just want to know what dcmh charges.

My dear sister, its not worth the money at all o! $4750? Abeg carry your baby on your lap even if they dont get you a bassinet try and manage! They would give you a seat belt to strap on to the baby for take of and landing anyways! so you dont need a car seat cos that means u are taking up another seat. When i was travelling with my baby 2 years ago he didnt even sleep in d bassinet at all i ended up just carrying him the whole time. Just pray that you meet someone nice that would help carry when u need to use the convenience. All the best!

[quote author=aolatunde00 post=31371488]I hope my experience helps someone.
I got my first Us visa is 2006.It was valid for two years but I used it just once spending just 7days.
In April 2008 hubby and I applied again and we were both given.By then I was pregnant though not visibly. The VO was really nice and the only thing close to pregnancy that he mentioned was when he asked if we had any plans to make use of any medical aids in the Us and we said no.
September 2008 I embarked on my journey to the U.S. and hubby was to join me some weeks later.Thinking I was doing myself a favor,I travelled with BA but made the massive mistake of having BWI as my point of entry.
The immigration lady had stamped me in only for me to pick up my luggage and then this border control guy called me aside.
See interrogation! He harassed me ehn!told me he was tired of liars coming into his country and spoiling it.made me lift and open my two heavy bags then he personally wheeled them away saying I was going back that same night to Lagos.he was breathing fire and brimstone.
Visibly upset and repeatedly cursing under his breath. He tried to call all the numbers he saw with me hoping something fishy would turn up but none did.

Sorry about your experience at BWI, Did you dclear your intention to the first officer that stamped you in?

i came in thru BWI 2wks ago, with my heart in mouth, as I had not heard any Poe story about the airport. When I was 18wks pregnant, I came in thru BWI, my reason for the trip then was vacation and I told the CBP and he stamped me in for 6months barely asking me questions so I decided to use there again. This time when I told the officer that the reason for my trip was for child birth, I was taken to another room for interview, showed the officer my docs appointment letter, my hospital receipt, my ticket itinerary, letter I sent to the embassy, statement of account cos I had just $1412. After viewing them, he told me he appreciates the fact I was honest about my intentions, and it is legal to come have my baby here, and they have no right to return you. but that a lot of people lie and that's where the problem lies, and further went on to say if I have got any friends coming to have their baby here, they should be honest about their intentions and they will be fine. And he stamped me in for 6 months.at 31wks I was not even visibly pregnant and I wore a loose top cos the CbP looked at me when I told him my purpose of visit, and was like how far gone are you?

Haba! Dont even make the mistake of taking 1M in cash to the US,1st of all,you will be drawing unneccesary attention to yourself, because i guarantee you,the cbp officer would count it to the last kobo before he converts it to know the exact dollar equivalent, after all that stress you wont even get a place to exchange it to dollars. Just bank the 1M in your account and get a card and inform your bank that they should open your card because you plan to use it in the Us . Moreover, you can use your debit card for almost any payment over there,so why the stress of carrying that much cash around

If your baby has a Nigerian passport, the fee would be cheaper, I dunno how that works but when I tried booking my daughters ticket two years ago, delta told me about $400, then wen I called back saying she had a Nigerian passport, I was quoted $200.
