My dear,
I still dey naija carrying my belle around. Going next month by Gods Grace and heading to Houston before moving around. I sent u her email that day, will send you her BBPIN as well. Don't really know much about her movement. I knew her here and PM for questions.
It is well. Maybe you throw your questions openly, some people might have tangible stuffs for you.

So sorry abt the delay.

@Demi2000 and gratefulheart88, pls for arik, I read on the website that you have to bring your medical report to them at least 48hrs b4 your intended flight. Did you both do this or did you just go to the airport on the day of your trip and check in the normal way?

I had a fit to fly written two days to my trip and went to the airport on the day of travel and was also asked to go to the port health for a travel certificate. Just make sure you are not more than 30 weeks.

I would advice that your husband should reapply and go for the interview just after you have gone and his reason for travelling should be that he is going to join his wife who is having a baby there. There is no big deal about it,there are people on the thread that were denied visa on 2/3 diffrent occations and were finally given ,and most of these denials were within 6months, so your husband does not have an issue.
Did you say he was denied because he was going to a state where he knew no one, what happened to hotel accomodation reservation or dint he make a hotel reservation?
I would advice him to try Abuja this time around, though i doubt it makes much diffrence anyway, but lets believe the ppl that say they are nicer VO'S in Abuja.
If he is asked about his last interview,he should be truthful and tell them exactly what transpired

thanks for the information I really appreciate

I think I finally have the stamina to post my visa story. I have read tens of such here so I think it's only fair I include mine. It's just that I'm lazy in typing.

Well, I got my visa in January this year before I discovered Nairaland. I went with a very big belly and I applied for visiting visa. Before that day my mum ,who is a regular US visitor, told me l wouldn't be given because of my pregnancy. I was a pure innocent applicant then, didn't know anything about visas and poe. All I knew was that my husband wanted to take his wives to US for vacation and I happened to be pregnant at that time. So, off we went to the Abuja embassy. My husband had drilled us the night before on answering possible questions. Didn't give the whole thing much thought. Was only a little worried I might be denied because of my pregnancy. I asked my younger sister who was currently birthing in Baltimore at that time and she explained how some Nigerians don't pay.

There were so many people on that day. We (I and my sister wife) we're scheduled for 9:00 a.m. but couldn't go in until 11:00 a.m. We went along with our husband's US visa page, hotel reservation, bank statements, marriage certificates, and a few other necessary documents. Our husband wasn't allowed to go in with us since we are adults. While we passed through security, they were all telling me sorry cas I was already panting seriously from the long walk and they could all see I was pregnant despite the big hijab(veil) I was wearing. Some even told me, ' those people they don't like giving pregnant women visa o but you may be lucky' At this point l felt everything was in God's hands. Finally, it was our turn after the lady had rejected all those before us.

VO: Good morning.
Us: Good morning.
VO: What is your name?
Us: We told her our names.
VO: How are you related?
Sister wife: We are wives of the same husband. ( I nodded while she said that)
VO: Oh! ( I giggled silently) What is your husband's name?
Us: His name is..............(My sister wife started pushing the envelope of documents through the hole.
VO: No! Keep it till I ask for it.
VO: Have you travelled with your husband before?
Us: Yes.
VO: Where?
Us: Dubai, Saudi Arabia, London
VO: Okay. So, why are you going to America?
Us: For holiday.
VO: Where in America are you going?
Us: Florida.
VO: Where in Florida?
Us: Orlando
VO: For how long?
Me: Just a week.
VO: Okay. So what do you do?
Us: We run a ....( type of business)
VO: You run it together?
Us: Yes we do.
VO: What do you earn?
Us: #............(equal amounts)
VO: Who is sponsoring the trip?
Us: The ...... (Name of business)
VO: I wish you a nice trip. Pick up your visas on Wednesday. (She hands us a sheet of paper).
Us: Thank youuuuu!

So off we went to give the good news to our husband and he was even happier than us and tipped the security people( they asked us to spread the the joy). They were also like, 'you are very lucky o! They have not been giving pregnant women lately'
My husband who had earlier said he would get a taxi to take us home cas he had been away from work since morning, drove us all the way home!

Few weeks after, my sister gave birth and gisted me of the wonderful experience she had. That was how l too started thinking of birthing in the US (since l had a visa anyway). I then somehow stumbled into Naira land and discovered it ain't gonna be beans.
Well, following my lovely teachers here, I have since notified the embassy of my change of intent to travel and l have received their generic reply. I have also gotten my doctor's appointment letters and hospital fees from both el paso and Houston, though I'm leaning towards Houston. And now my mum is talking about California cas her dear brother is there. I have also bought my tickets for my mum, two year old son and I. Hope I have done well so far? wink

If I may continue,

Now, the issue on ground now is that my son doesn't have a US visa. I just got his interview date today which is in April.
How do I prepare for this? Do I go with him like I'm the one preparing for the interview with all my burden of proof? I am thinking they might now want to question me based on my child birth since they did not have the opportunity the last time Or do I stay back and let my husband take him (he his not traveling with us but joining us after the baby is born).

It changes daily but Mastercard exchange rate is different from normal exchange rate. Master card exchange rate is usually higher

It is very handy trust me especially for those mommas doing exclusive breastfeeding. It helps boost your milk supply plus you won't have to nurse in public. You just have to pump enough and take in a bottle to feed baby when you are out. You can always pump excess milk and store in the refrigerator for upto 6 days and in the freezer for up to 6 months. Once thawed from the freezer shouldn't be refreezed but kept in the refrigerator or used. Breast milk can stay at room temperature for upto 6 to 8 hours without contamination so itz so handy. I did 6 months exclusive breastfeeding for my first now 2 and half years old. My second is now 3 months old and I hope to go through his first 6 months exclusive breastfeeding too. May God give us the strength for this great love.

drafrican:
Going off course
Please did anyone find a buggie useful in naija
Did anyone find a breast pump useful(electric)

Try pigeon portable electric breast pump. Itz small and does a good job. U can as well use batteries if u are out of electricity. It works so good and is durable. I used it every single day for my first upto 6 and half months and now using same for my new baby now 3 months old and still using daily. We first got medella manual pump which didn't last for more than 2 weeks for my first then we got the ever so good pigeon.

What brand do you recommend abeg! I don't trust all those oyinbo women singing praises of medela electric breast pump. An African woman's breast is different and that medela is quite expensive undecided

I never got to buy any new part cuz the ones it came are still in good condition. It came with 2 membranes but I m still on the first one.

shelly23:
If you produce a lot of milk, then please buy the medela electric pump. It is worth every expensive dollar it costs! Especially if you plan to have more kids. I've had mine since my first son 4 yrs ago and brought it with me for my new baby, in between my sister and cousin used it sef (they bought their own accessories though).
If your milk flow isn't that much, then the manual on should work just fine. I got a free one from the hospital and use it when I don't feel like plugging the electric one.
If you end up with the electric one, make sure you buy extra membranes cos they wear our pretty quickly depending on how much you use the pump sha.

I dont think who takes your son for the visa interview matters,i think what matters here is that whoever is taking him should be prepared with your burden of proof, since the reason for your sons trip is that he is accompanying you for child birth. You just might be lucky and they might not ask to see much, but it is better to be prepared just in case they ask.

Pls did you make this hospital payments after delivery as you stated during labour was your first time of going to oakbend. Just that I stay with a family friend and oakbend is a little of a distance from where I am so my antenatal venue is the one closest to me ie gulfton medical centre with dr fagbohun
.

I've not even paid self. grin If you have debit card (naija own) u can use it. Or you can go there and make payment before you give birth or pay after you give birth. Anyhow you want it.

Hello everyone, .... am a firstimer, read thru most of the previous comments and am impressed...please want to know if anybody know any affordable hospital in san francisco ,or how I can go about looking for dr there, pls will appreciate any info on that. Thank you.... @sayoberry did u deliver in California?

OK. The San francisco bay area is a no go area for someone on a budget... researched on that area for about a week and the cheapest I got for C/S hosp fee was like $11k. Pls you can research more online and if you succeed lemme know OK. As per California in general, cheaper rates are towards LA. We've had a. few mother's here use there. Check MamaTobenna & OMary83 posts. They are in Inglewood, CA now.
Hope this helps.

Hello guys,

I need urgent advise on this. You guys have been really helpful.

My self and my child have 2yrs Visa we got in 2014, we travelled in the same year and spent 2 to 3weeks. we currently in naija. While we were dere, my hubby applied for d visa for the 1st time stating he was going for a conference for enterpreneurs in a state he knew nobody. He wasn't given d visa. This was around october lastyr.

My questn is, I would be going to deliver my baby in d US come May 2015 and would like him&my first child to join me dere close to my EDD.

Do u advise he reapply?

Should he apply again in Lagos or go through Abj?

If he's asked about the conference thing he was refused, what should he say.

I have a family there cos I went for a vacatn during my 1st visit but he failed to mention he had a family member in the US but not in the state he was going for the conference!

What documents should he take wt him and how should he answer if he his asked what he's going there for.

What should he do?

Help plsssss.

Thanks Guyz

My husband was given his visa after two denials. He reapplied the third time when i was preggy and was already in the states and was given. He went with all my hospital correspondences, marriage certificate, change of name e.t.c and was just asked his reason for travelling and he mentioned, it was to assist his wife for childbirth. They asked him the name of his wife and he mentioned it, the VO requested for evidence that we are married becuase my passport was in my maiden name, he showed the marriage certificate and change of name, he was asked what he does for a living and he answered. His visa was approved.

He was given this visa at the lagos embassy where he was denied twice. Your hubby should retry and by God's grace, he will be given.

Hi @sayoberry, how are your cuties doing? Would like to know if you have started the process of getting your babies documentation. If yes, please help me with info on if they accept the notarised DS-3053 form (Hubby's consent) for American Passport from any notary other than the US embassy. I will be using Oakbend Medical in Houston.

If you haven't started, please let me know when you do.

Thanks.

That's d rate. And cheaper than getting from mallams. Most times it fluctuates between 208.5 and 210. Better to swipe on POS to prevent additional charges
