Compression socks should be available in any teaching hospital it's used a lot for Almost all surgeries ,if they don't have U'll be easily directed to where their patients purchase it from.

Please don't start a scare here. 'Experienced' doctors prescribe LOW DOSE aspirin for their hypertensive or high risk pre eclampsia patients, biko! Next thing, high risk mamas will draw conclusion from your advice.

Hi All,

I have been following this thread quietly for a while now because i desire that my wife delivers our baby in the US. I am presently considering Atlanta for logistic reasons but also considering cost. It appears a couple of people are heading towards phoenix.

Can someone please spell out the likely cost implications of having a baby (VAGINAL AND CAESAREAN PLEASE) in phoenix from registration to delivery.

If you are thinking of going the Phoenix route, MIHS (Maricopa Intergrated Health Service) seem to be your best bet for now.Google them and check out their self pay deals for pregnant women and also check out budget spread sheet posted by Phema and some other people on this thread.. I guess with that, you are good to go

Please feel free to dose on aspirin as you like
Why I put the post up, someone asked a nairalander to use aspirin (NSAID)for her flight and she asked me.
And I clearly stated don't use it as a substitute (self medication)for stocks not don't take if prescribed
It's simple research has shown increased incidence of fetal heart defects in mothers who take aspirin in the first and third trimester(thankfully there is Google )
Aspirin is a categorie D drug (Google the meaning)
When a patient presents with eclampsia it's a case of risk vs benefit,so yes they would give low dose cos that's the only way to help keep the mother "alive" but except there is a life threatening pregnancy complication it's a no no
And professors of medicine know this so next time you see your "experienced doctor " ask him of aspirin is linked to cardiac defects or not then run back here and tell us!!! grin

Hi my people, Are there any Nairalanders arriving Phoenix Arizona between now and the first week in April? I have a lot of stuff to give out/ pass to the next mama from cooking utensils, dishes to pillows, baby bath, a bag of rice, spices other foodstuffs, laundry detergent, soaps, hangers n the likes.... Just Pm if interested. Waiting to head home. It's been a fantastic experience.
To those on a budget n don't need drama with friends n relatives cos of overlong stay my advice , after you enter Yankee Omo head to Phoenix go use MIHS stay small then head back to wherever ... Without any reservations they are just a fantastic bunch.

MadamU pls feel me in on more. I want my wife to deliver at MIHS. How is the hospital and which of the places did you stay. I want my wife to go with her mother so i will prefer a comfortable place for them both.
How are u doing with your baby? Gods infinite blessing shall be upon U and your child. I will really appreciate your help if u can take me thru birthing at MIHS Phoenix smiley it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks a whole lot. God bless

Compression socks are not for every one. I bought one but did not use it coz my doctor said I didn't need to because I never had swollen feet thru my preg and had no history of high bp. He strongly recommended drinking gallons of water and walking around every hour as much as possible which helped a lot. So pls consult ur doc if u are sure he knows his salt and then mKe up your mind on whether to wear or not.

If the bp has been stable and proteinuria minimal, why not just maintain on Methyldopa and Nifedipine? What's so special with aspirin with a seemingly stable pre-eclamptic patient? So u are right drafrican

http://www.aafp.org/news/health-of-the-public/20140910lowdoseasa.html

Google is your friend, and when in doubt, consult your doctor, not an online self acclaimed doctor!

People at risk for Pre-eclampsia are put on Low dose aspirin after 12 weeks till 32 weeks to prevent pre-eclampsia. Prevention is better than cure, or doesn't that make sense?
And one mama just shared her experience with low dose aspirin, due to her history and as prescribed by her proper doctor and she has not had blood pressure issues so far. Infact some doctors won't put you on anti-hypertensive drugs if your lower BP reading is not above 90, instead they use low dose aspirin.

Please mamas, discuss any issues you have with your doctor who has your history, so you don't get misled or misdiagnosed by one oversabi.

Yea u right, all meds have benefits/ side effects, just good to discuss all treatment options with your Dr, as he/ she will weigh the pros and cons and see which will suit you best as each patient has his/her peculiarity...Treatment options should always patient-specific and your Obsterician will know which will suit u best... Stay strong, good to know u did well. And may God keep us all in good health..
