One of the closest Igbo man to the President
Elect is Dr Chris Ngige Onwa, a Senator who
was defeated in the Senatorial Election.
See how bad Igbos are at strategizing? They
couldn't override a pathological hatred for
General Buhari to make a hedge bet and
return this man to the Senate, to enhance his
chances at Senate President, incase General
Buhari wins, which he did.
Instead folks played tribal and religious
politics to the tilt as drunken sailors, and
failed the man and the chance to make
history as Senate President.
That's what happens when emotions trips
common sense and folks succumb to
hustlers like Peter Obi and Arthur Eze,
scoundrels after their own interests instead
of the masses.
I urged caution, I pleaded that we were
making a huge mistake to hitch our wagon
on Jonathan who wasn't going to win. And
predictably he lost, so also our chance in
the new administration.
I hate to gloat.
But maybe, maybe, only maybe he gets a
good ministerial appointment, but nothing
beats being Senate President.
Igbos are very bad at politics.
And sadly it won't stop until we learn to
coexist with others instead of our 'better
than thou' attitude when dealing with the
Hausas and Yorubas. We are not better than
anyone, these folks we thumb our noses at,
are God's creatures like us.
We don't like the Hausas and we don't like
the Yorubas, yet we populate their States in
search for our livelihood. Our politics should
mirror our economic aspirations, not the
other way around.
How long can this collective amnesia
insulate us from meaningfully seating at the
table, making contributions to Nigeria's
political evolution?
How long can this foolishness go on?

There is a miserable silence across the land
today, because we are realizing that we were
sold off for pennies by pimps who parade as
Igbo leaders. Where are they? Anyone

Look at enugu with APC having candidates in all electives post in the state and you think only 12k people voted APC compared to the 550k of the PDP.

Once again i congratulate Buhari for emerging Nigeria's new president and also Jonathan for conceding. Both are African records.

Now, i've been seeing comments about Igbos flying all around from nairaland to social media sites and it's really pitiful that Nigerians can descend to such levels of hypocrisy. I for one have wondered why Igbos believe so much in Jonathan. it actually beats me. But i realized that's the beauty of democracy. You never just understand why people support the other candidate and you probably will never understand. They also don't understand why you're supporting your own candidate. it's a two way street. My major grouse is the fact that people are tainting the support of majority of Igbos for Jonathan as a tribal thing and i'm like WTF. How can it be tribal even when the person they're supporting is not even Igbo. It's hypocritical that Buhari swept the North just like he did in 2011 and nobody is accusing them of tribalism considering that Buhari is hausa/Fulani but you're accusing a tribe that supports someone who's not their tribesman for tribalism. You can accuse these people for anything but never tribalism. They reserve the unapologetic right to support who they deem fit and it's not anyone's business.

You're still being tribalistic here. Your last sentence gives you away easily and it's quite disturbing one could reason that way. To me this was never about Igbo, Yoruba or Hausa. Of the three major, the Igbos (Ohaneze) and the Yorubas (Afenifere) endorsed a candidate while the Hausas (Arewa) kept mute.

We all knew the Yorubas endorsed GEJ because of the so-called promise of implementing the National confab which, according to the Yorubas would benefit them. Honestly, I cannot say the same for the Igbos as to why they endorsed Jonathan. One thing has been visible, GEJ understands that we are divided and is adoption of the name 'Azikiwe' during election period explains this.

Finally, know that the highest level of intelligence electorates can exhibit is when they choose their candidates, not on ethno-religious grounds but on values and what the candidates intend to bring to the table.

The SE save Imo state exhibited sentiments, the SS save Edo state exhibited sentiments and so did the core North. The SW was fairly stiff for both GMB and GEJ and this speaks volume. The consciousness of being Yoruba, Igbo or Hausa is still very harmful to our Democracy.

That is my opinion, and if that makes me a tribalist, well then. The fact that the so called Yoruba leaders endorsed GEJ doesn't meant the whole Odu'a nation did, and the leaders knows this. They just played a fast one on GEJ.
The figures from the vote cannot categorically say who the Southwest fully supported, except that they leaned towards GMB than GEJ. Now when u look at other regions the candidates they supported jumps out of the figures and it looks more or less like a tribal sentiment.
It a common knowledge that an average Nigerian operates on tribal sentiments. Now the level of exhibiting the sentiments might vary based on some factors, but tribalism is not foreign to us, and it will take a while to get rid of it.
I still stand by what I wrote earlier, that an Hausa presidential candidate and a Yoruba VP does not appeal to an average Igbo person just like a combination of Hausa and igbo would not appeal to an average Yoruba person.

Am Igbo, but I voted for Jonathan not because he has performed but I felt that APC should have offered a better candidate and not Buhari. Jonathan is a dull candidate but I didn't believe in Buhari till tomorrow, but the people have spoken and so shall it be. I supported APC when they formed alliance and wanted to vote APC whether their candidate was a Northerner or not, but certainly I didn't want Buhari as an individual and not because he is Fulani, and will still vote against him till tomorrow unless he can now convince me through his performance.

Going by the avalanche of votes that were ceded to Jonathan in the east, I can convincingly assert that igbos are far from being a nationalist! Its so glaring... Let's call a spade a spade! The majority of the Yorubas weren't neutral in this election, they rooted for GMB. If it's a Hausa/Igbo combo, the reverse would have been the case. So tribalism is our way of life, and until it's eliminated, Nigeria will never grow to its desired heights.

We are on nairaland and we see comments from ibo people, same as on facebook and twitter and I lived in ebonyi and enugu for almost two years 2013-2015 before coming back to Lagos this February because of this elections.

I know majority of Ibos in iboland do not want Buhari. Fact. The only Ibos who may have voted for GMB are those outside of Iboland who have mixed and integrated with the local population.

It is the rigged result that is confusing most people they assumed the 99% difference between GEJ and GMB is a reflection of the mindse of easterners.

PDPs stealing of the vote cast for APC in the SS and SE did so much injustice to the unity and disversity of the people of Nigeria.
They caused huge loss to the positioning of both regions in the heirarchy of leadership in Nigeria.

Now the Leadership of the national assembly will be shared solely between the entire north and the south west solely.

i don't fault se/ss's for voting gej, he has probably done more positivity to them more than he has done to us from the north that is why we voted for him across all ethnic lines in the north, but that does not matter now, gmb has been given the mandate to lead nigeria, to show to us from the north that he is better than gej and also to show to the ss and se that he can be as positive as gej to them

I don't think so brother if anything the Igbo's protested by not giving Gej the large bulk of votes he gathered in 2011 there is no doubt they don't like buhari and have genuine reasons not to trust him. so they just protested against Jonathan by not voting at all.
