Hello house!

Congrats to all the new mums.

Arrived El Paso yesterday, Monday.

POE was JFK and I flew Arik.

Wen I booked my flight, arik website said 34wks max. Bt I hrd they don't accept more than 28wks. I am 34wks so I got fit to fly showing 27wks.

I got to checkin counter and showed my fit to fly. They said they don't want to see it that I shuld go 2 port health and they will examine me and give a fit to fly cert. My hrt started beating o!

Wen I got there, d woman asked me hw mny wks I am,i said 27wks. She said that means I will be 36wks. That she will examine me now and find out d truth. So I lay down and she measured and behold she got 27wks. Another woman, came and measured me and got the same thing. They were both shocked for reasons I do not know *eyesrolling*

I was shocked myself cos my doc measured me on Wednesday and got 33wks. God at work o! They sha gave me d cert with 27wks on it,paid a fee of 2k and I left.

Flight was ok. There were some empty seats on the flight so just went there, lay down and slept wella. Food wasn't so bad.

At POE,only two questions were asked: "wat are u here for", "have u been to any African country recently". Finish! No sec inspection.

I declared I had food so was sent to agriculture‎. D guy jst asked if I had yam, vegetables or fruits. Said no and that was all. Told me I can go.

I carried enof food...even palmoil, indomie onion chicken bt to God be the glory, non was seen.

God is,and has always been awesome.

I'm at El Paso now.

Just tot to share my experience.

Hmm God at work to confirm falsehood, don't think so, but glad it all went well for you

Hello mommas and papas in the house,

need a quick clarification please.

Is it the same paediatrician that sees the baby at delivery that one continues to see or it is true that the one that sees the baby at delivery is paid just for that and one needs to take baby to another paediatrician after been discharged from the hospital.

If the above is true, is it necessary to take the baby to the other paediatrics? Senior mommas, please help this FTM. I will.also appreciate if someone can give me a highlight of things needed to be done after baby birth...Phema and Co, your experienced advice needed here plssssssssssssss.

Senior Moms in the house, come and help a sis.

Senior Moms in the house, come and help a sis.

Mamatobenna told me she used a different pediatrician after delivery. She paid him or her only at first visit.

My thoughts on this is that if pediatrician fee is not part of the hospital package, you are free to source for your own pediatrician that is using or is registered with that same hospital.

The pediatrician at the hospital is different from the one you see after discharge. The hospital pediatrician attends to your baby while there but when you are discharged, you will have to go to your own pediatrician for immunizations and regular check up.

Hello house! Have been following these threads for a while but can't find information that suits my intention. My Wife will be due in October. I'm thinking of using Baltimore, MD or Massachusetts, Boston.

* Please what's the safest way of presenting your case at the embassy for your visa to be approved? By the way, I've never been to the USA before but my wife and I have been to India on two occasions for medical reasons.

* If I decide not to notify the VO during the interview about birthing in the States but disclose it at POE, showing all the necessary documents and correspondence, will it comes back to hunt us in subsequent visa appointments & renewal?

* Please, anyone with doctors direct contacts, who will be willing to give appointments and respond to correspondence in Maryland or Boston should please share with me @ Ekweresplace@gmail.com.

* While preparing for interview, what documents should I have handy?

* I'll welcome and appreciate any advice you guys would give. This is my first time...

Please house, it's urgent. Thank you.

:

Hello peoples,
My wife delivered our 'bouncing baby boy' at Oakbend hospital two weeks ago; Dr. Fagbohun had planned her to come in on the evening of 23rd, however wifey woke up with enough contractions that morning to warrant us going asap. FF wasn't at the hospital at that time, so one of his doctors (Robertson) handled the baby's delivery.

Meanwhile, during labor, if offered pain medication (stadol et al), please take it- there is no extra cost attached...lol. Make sure to feed WELL on labour day- as in, eat twice the amount you normally take, don't say "Baby is very big now, there's no space for much food"
(this may be useful advice for first time moms). I sure pitied my wife cos when we arrived the hospital at about 11 a.m and the contractions were confirmed, induction was started and she wasn't permitted to take anything except ice and delivery wasn't until after 12 midnight. So, please feed well!

Our baby was born with low blood level sugar due to stress during the 'pushing era', as well he had dropped some meconium in the amniotic fluid- thus he had to be suctioned right away and admitted into NICU Level 2 care; he was placed on IV while there, with some formula later on and for about two days after discharge- however, he is fully on breast-milk now.

I was estimating a bill of about $800 max for this, but it seems NICS uses a different calculator sha. For this care, I was given a bill of 2130 shocked
Omo! I called NICS back, involved the hospital pediatrician as well the Medical Director; after much back and forth, they brought it down to 1200 as the lowest they could go; paid it and now waiting for the zero balance letter. Gotten that of Oakbend Hospital from the Jackson Street branch.

As for accommodation, I got in touch with a couple of people here on info getting a standalone apartment but no such luck; eventually, Soulcare came through with a superb flat in the West Oaks area (close to Highway 6), with most things one could possibly need- a pool, gym, mall right opposite, most of the big name stores within 15 mins drive, less than 30 mins drive to Oakbend hospital; there's even a metro stop right outside my window- what more can a tourist ask for grin Even a Uber taxi cost me less than $25 to Oakbend hospital.

Frankly, one doesn't have to live in Richmond- which is a typical 'have-your-own car' suburb. I was there briefly in January and ended up staying indoors most of the time. Anywhere between Richmond and the western part of Houston should be fine.

I have gotten baby's passport today; next is the Nigerian visa.

Congrats to all new mothers, 'visa-approvees' as well expectant mothers!

*edit* To clarify, the flat I eventually got isn't a standalone; we took 2rooms in a 3bedroom; the Masters bedroom is properly furnished such that only the kitchen is shared with the single flatmate therein.

During my search, I realised getting a standalone is easier if one plans to stay for 3months at least.

If you are thinking of going the Phoenix route, MIHS (Maricopa Intergrated Health Service) seem to be your best bet for now.Google them and check out their self pay deals for pregnant women and also check out budget spread sheet posted by Phema and some other people on this thread.. I guess with that, you are good to go

@dere5 thanks.

Hello ekweresplace,

First of all congrats on the baby and wishing you and wifey H&H 9 mths with safe delivery.

For detailed information to answer your questions, please read part 1 of this thread. Link is on page 1. You can start reading from midway(pg200) or wait for others to reply.

Generally its best to be truthful, state you are going to give birth, have all the necessary doumenattions ready, armed with prayers, go for the interview. To get indepth information, please read the part 1 of this thread.

About the areas you mentioned for birthing, few people have given some hospitals in Maryland, I am not sure of Boston. This is because these areas are generally expensive and one needs to do a lot of ground work to find a friendly all-inclusive package for self pay.
