I just got a job in a growing indian telecommunication company in VI as a Graduate Trainee Network Engineer. I am a 2-1 graduate of Elect/elect and the only experience I have is computer hardware troubleshooting and repair.

It all started after the submission of my application and I was called for an interview.

The indian interviewer made me realise that it's graduate trainee level I can be for now since I don't have a Networking Experience and that I will be on probation for 6months before appraisal and subsequent upgrade to a full staff and the monthly salary is 50k .

The story changed when I was called to the office for further briefing the following week about the offer when another Indian guy interviewed me and told me that the actual salary for trainee is 40k and asked me when I would loved to resume?

My main problem is I'm staying far and my t-fare to and fro is 16k/month.

Please guys help me review the offer. Is it worth it? God bless you as you do.

Sir,as a fresh graduate,your focus should not be on the money you will be paid but on the experience you will get.Indians don't pay well in Nigeria cos they have the belief that they will always have Nigerians begging to work with them no matter the pay.But the advantage of working with them is that you will know the stuff very well cos they can't stand a lazy guy or someone not smart enough.Why not work with them for at list 6months,once you get the experience and they refuse 2 pay u a good sum then you look for other options.
Note b4:While working as a Network Engineer, endeavour to write your networking exams(CCNA,CCNP)...Cheers

Dicy but easy, experience first then the money rolls in. Afterall, you're not going to spend the whole money on the t-fare but some fraction left to you still

Well, this is quite a hard one I must say. Most Indian run firms have a poor record of staff welfare especially as regards to labour abuse. Critically consider and pray and I believe God will help you.

Indians are known to be very strict bosses. Expect the worst if you work with them. No matter how much work and effort you put it can never be enough.

Only take it if that is the only offer available for you, and Pls. While you are there focus on learning and search for better offer. I believe with your 2:1 Elect. you should be able to get a better paying job that will offer the requisite experience you desire.

From my experience in interview or Job search, Employers prefer to employ someone who is working or experienced instead of one who is idle. When they ask you that interview question What are you doing presently or what have you been doing after NYSC? When you tell them you work in Mr A company, it gives you an edge over the others.

I would advice you take the offer, learn and get the experience, while you are there continue jobhunting. Mind you, I'm talking from Experience. Goodluck!

Depends on your qualifation and what you believe you are worth. To me..it's a no.

Take the job and build your experience. At least after removing the 16K for transportation you have some small change left. This is the time for you to go through pain in life and struggle.

You will look back tomorrow and smile when you remember how you used to earn just 40K a month and all the struggling. I don't want to say some things about myself so as not to expose my identity but I know how I started and how far God has taken me now. I smile when I remember those tough days.

Be smart, be focused, Know your worth, if you think you are good, you can take it for a start, Get the experience to make your CV interesting after 6 months you will be times 4 of your current worth.

If i were you, while they are paying me 40k i will be doing a job of 200k so that in 4 months times when i shakara them that im leaving they will quickly opt it to 60k.

One thing you should know working with Indians you cant lazy around. Its WORK WORK WORK with less pay. Indians pay you lesser than your worth. You are at a cross road decide whether you want the money (which might or might not come) or whether you want the experience which always attract the money.

Never at any point in your life be desperate or forget to know your worth. Just have one believe which i always have it is i dont have to be the best person for the position to deserve it, even if there are 1,000 people applying for the same job and there is only one slot, I would get it.

The first thing i would say is, do you love computer networking? Are you passionate about doing something different from what you learned in school? If yes, forget all and take the job.
Secondly, do you have another source of income? If you do, and you don't want to go down that career path, don't take it.
In the meantime you could be doing that while planning your next move. No knowledge or experience is wasted

Well not only indian companies pay such amount, but i believe your main aim should be developing yourself and gain more experience, when you are well equipped with knowledge and experience you can find an alternative. Will advice you take some online courses to get advanced knowledge of the job and make your freedom rapid. Moreover Graduates in india earn almost same amount monthly, so i believe the salary scale is being gauged with that of their country
